Indian Navy Revives Maritime Legacy with Ancient Stitched Ship Induction

  • India is set to witness a historic moment on 21 May 2025 as the Indian Navy formally inducts an Ancient Stitched Ship, built using 5th-century CE shipbuilding techniques. The ceremonial event at Naval Base Karwar will be presided over by Union Culture Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. This initiative not only celebrates India's ancient maritime traditions but also marks a successful interdisciplinary fusion of traditional craftsmanship and naval science.

Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Kumar Deka Gets One Year Extension

  • Tapan Kumar Deka, the chief of Intelligence Bureau (IB), was given one-year extension till June 2026, according to a Personnel Ministry order.
  • Deka, who has held the position since 2022, took over as the new chief in 2022. He is a 1988 batch officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre.

IPS Officer Arti Singh to Head Mumbai Police's New Intelligence Wing

  • The Mumbai Police started a new position, with a Joint Commissioner of Police handling intelligence specifically. Arti Singh, an IPS officer of the 2006 batch, took charge as Mumbai's first Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence).
  • This is the sixth post of a Joint Commissioner in the Mumbai Police organisational structure, which already has Joint Commissioners of Police for handling Law and Order, Crime, Administration, Economic Offences Wing and Traffic.
  • The Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) will report to the Commissioner of Police directly and will be responsible for overseeing intelligence gathering, including keeping track of sleeper cells.

Exercise Teesta Prahar

  • Exercise Teesta Prahar was military field exercise conducted by the Indian Army. It took place at the Teesta Field Firing Range in West Bengal. The exercise aimed to validate the operational readiness of various combat and support elements in challenging riverine terrain. It brought into light the Indian Army's commitment to modernisation and joint force integration.
  • Teesta Prahar involved multiple branches of the Indian Army, including Infantry, Artillery, Armoured Corps, Mechanised Infantry, Para Special Forces, Army Aviation, Engineers, and Signals. The exercise simulated realistic battlefield conditions to test the effectiveness of integrated operations. It served as a platform to demonstrate the Army's preparedness for diverse combat scenarios.

  • Adani Defence & Aerospace claimed that it became the first private sector company in India to offer indigenised sonobuoy solutions.
  • The partnership will combine Sparton's pioneering ASW technology with Adani Defence's established expertise in development, manufacturing, and sustenance for the Indian Navy.

AVNL and BEL Forge Partnership for Next-Generation Electronic System in Wheeled Armour Vehicles

  • In a significant step toward bolstering India's indigenous defence capabilities, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) signed a teaming agreement to jointly develop advanced electronic devices for wheeled armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs). The agreement, formalised marks a deepening collaboration between two of India's premier defence public sector undertakings (PSUs), aligning with the nation's Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and Make in India initiatives. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BEL, Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD ofAVNL, Satyabrata Mukherjee, Director (Operations) ofAVNL, and senior officers from both organisations.
