Lieutenant General Arvind Walia is Engineer-in-Chief of Army

Lieutenant General Arvind Walia was appointed as the next Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army. He would be succeeding Lt Gen Harpal Singh who is superannuating on December 31. An officer of the 1986 batch, Lt Gen Walia is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and also received the prestigious Silver Medal there.
Lt Gen Walia has previously commanded an independent squadron in the desert sector, a regiment in Jammu and Kashmir and an Engineer Brigade along the western front. He has also commanded the MEG & Centre in Bengaluru. He was also an instructor at the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad and the National Defence College in Delhi. The renowned officer has also held prestigious staff appointments including as Brigade Major of a Mountain Brigade, Director in Engineer-in-Chief's Branch at the Integrated Headquarters of MoD (Army), Brig Q in a Strike Corps and Chief Engineer of a Command.

Russia to Supply Iran with Dozens of Sukhoi Su-35 Fighter Jets

The Islamic Republic of Iran will soon receive a full squadron of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter planes from Russia, a move that is certain to further enrage the West as Tehran and Moscow strengthen their defense and economic collaboration in defiance of broad sanctions and draconian measures.
With the exception of a few Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters it purchased in the 1990s, Iran hasn't purchased any new fighter aircraft in recent years.

India, Kazakhstan Conduct Joint Military Exercise in Meghalaya

The sixth edition of KazInd 2022, the joint exercise of the Indian Army and Kazakhstan Army was held at Umroi in Meghalaya.
The 14-day-long joint military exercise started on December 15. The joint annual training exercise with the Kazakhstan Army was instituted in 2016 as Exercise Prabal Dostyk, which was later upgraded to a company-level exercise and renamed as Ex Kazind in 2018.
In the sixth edition of KazInd, Kazakhstan Army soldiers, comprising troops from the Regional Command, South and Indian Army soldiers from the 11 Gorkha Rifles, took part.
The aim of the exercise was to build positive military relations, imbibe each other's best practices and promote the ability to operate together while undertaking counter-terrorist operations in semi-urban/jungle scenario, under a United Nations peace enforcement mandate, to enable the two armies to train, plan and execute a series of combined tactical drills for neutralising of likely threats that may be encountered in UN peacekeeping operations.

Armies of India and Nepal Undertake Gruelling Training Exercise

As per the Indian Army, troops of Indian Army and Nepali Army participated in a 48-hour long gruelling training, followed by successful validation of counter-terrorism drills on simulated settings, during the ongoing joint exercise in Nepal.
The 16th edition of Indo-Nepal joint military exercise 'SURYA KIRAN', which started on December 16, will continue till December 29 at Nepal Army Battle School, Saljhandi.

Indian Army procures THeMIS Unmanned Ground Vehicle

The Indian Army procured Milrem Robotics' Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System (THeMIS) unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) from Estonia. THeMIS made waves in the military technology sector, and India became the latest country to add it to its arsenal.
The addition of THeMIS to the Indian Army would provide a significant boost to their capabilities. Its versatility and advanced technology makes it a valuable addition to any military's arsenal and it has already proven itself to be effective in the battlefield. It is likely that THeMIS would be used for a variety of missions in the Indian army, including reconnaissance, surveillance, transportation, and logistics tasks.

India Clears Pralay Tactical Ballistic Missiles for Armed Forces

In a major decision, the Defence Ministry cleared the procurement of around 120 Pralay ballistic missiles for the Indian armed forces that will deploy them along the borders with China and Pakistan.
At present, the Pralay ballistic missiles can take out targets from 150 to 500 km and are extremely difficult to intercept for the enemy through interceptor missiles.
The acquisition of these ballistic missiles is seen as a big development for the country which now has a policy that allows the use of ballistic missiles in tactical roles. Both China and Pakistan have ballistic missiles which are for tactical roles.
The missile would be first inducted into the Indian Air Force likely to be followed by the Indian Army.

UP's Sania Mirza Set to Become Country's First Muslim Female Fighter Pilot

Sania Mirza, daughter of a TV mechanic from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, was selected to become a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force and would be the country's first Muslim girl and the state's first female IAF pilot.
She secured this position by passing the NDA exam. She has brought laurels not only to the district but also to the state and the country.
In the National Defense Academy 2022 examination, there were a total of 400 seats including male and female. In which there were 19 seats for women, and two seats were reserved for fighter pilots. In these two seats, Sania managed to get a place on the strength of her talent.
