Greek-Indian Air Forces to Conduct Joint Exercise

The Greek and Indian Air Forces will collaborate on a joint training exercise with Su-30, F-16, and Rafale fighter jets for ten days over Greece and the Mediterranean Sea. The exercise will be conducted as part of the annual Greek exercise Iniochos 23, led by the Greek Air Force and the Greek Air Tactics Centre of the Ministry of Defence. The training is scheduled to begin on April 18 and will conclude on April 28.

IIT-Kanpur Partners with Defence PSU to Focus on Innovation

The Start-up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur entered into a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agreement with Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited. Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited is one of the seven new Defence Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) that were created by converting the Ordnance Factory Board into fully government-owned enterprises. The agreement was signed in the presence of dignitaries from IIT Kanpur, SIIC, and Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AW&EIL) at the Ordnance Factory Kanpur.
The SIIC and AW&EIL joined hands with the aim of providing financial assistance to the start-up ecosystem and supporting the incubation of new technology and innovation-based startups at IIT Kanpur, in line with the CSR Policy of AW&EIL. The expected result of this partnership is the overall advancement and growth of the country, as the startups that emerge from this collaboration are expected to make a significant contribution to the economy and society as a whole. The partnership aims to establish a vibrant startup ecosystem that fosters ground-breaking research and development, generates employment opportunities, and positions India as a leading global innovator.

Indian Navy to Replace MiG-29K Fleet after 2035 Due to Quality Concerns

The Indian Navy inducted MiG-29K supersonic air dominance fighters in 2010 but will retire the entire fleet of around 41 jets from service by 2035 due to severe built quality issues with the jets, which frequently require periodic inspections at regular small intervals.
The MiG-29K has a design life of 6,000 hours and could have served the Indian Navy for another 10-15 years with a life extension program, but the Navy has no plans to extend the fleet's service life and that the entire fleet will be scrapped after retirement. The Indian Navy plans to replace the Mig-29K fleet with 45 Twin Engine Deck Based Fighters (TEDBF) a "5th generation minus" starting in 2035, but the Navy is unsure the fleet will last beyond 2030 due to airframe defects, discrepancies, and anomalies that will make flying dangerous as it ages.

Philippines, US kick off largest-ever joint military drills

The Philippines and the United States launched their largest-ever joint military exercises on Tuesday, as the longstanding allies seek to counter growing Chinese assertiveness in the region.
Nearly 18,000 troops are taking part in the annual exercises dubbed Balikatan, or "shoulder to shoulder" in Filipino, which for the first time will include a live-fire drill in the South China Sea, which Beijing claims almost entirely.
The drills follow Monday's conclusion of a three-day Chinese military operation that simulated targeted strikes and a blockade of self-ruled, democratic Taiwan, which Beijing considers part of its territory.

IAF, USAF hold joint exercise after Covid-19 gap

The war games between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the United States Air Force (USAF) are being held after a gap of four years since it had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last edition was held in 2019.
The Su-30MKI fighter aircraft will spearhead the IAF contingent which also features the LCA Tejas, IL-78 mid-air refuelers and air-borne early warning aircraft.
The US Air Force (USAF) contingent has flown in from the Pacific command of the US military and will field the F-15 fighter aircraft.
The Pacific command of the US military coordinates with India in the Indo-Pacific sector as both nations strive to counter growing Chinese influence in the region.

INS Vikrant Receives Original Bell as Gift

India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant received a unique gift in form of its original bell, which was installed on the first carrier of the same name commissioned in 1961.
The original bell was gifted by retired Vice Chief of Navy Staff Vice Admiral S.N. Ghormade to the commanding officer of the INS Vikrant.
The bell was placed on the first INS Vikrant in 1961 after India bought a British-origin aircraft carrier HMS Hercules and gave it an Indian name.

Tri-service Drill in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

The 50th Parachute Brigade (Shatrujeet Brigade) of the Army participated in a major multi-domain exercise with the Andaman Nicobar Command (ANC) rehearsed its rapid reaction capabilities on the strategically located Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The high-voltage exercise, carried out in conjunction with the Indian Air Force and Navy, tested the jointmanship and interoperability among special forces of the tri-services while reacting to different plans and contingencies in realistic tactical settings.
