Rajiv Singh is New Manipur DGP

  • Senior IPS officer Rajiv Singh was appointed the new Director General of Police of Manipur. Singh replaced P. Doungel.
  • Singh, who was working as an inspector general with the CRPF, was sent to Manipur as per an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, was sent to Manipur on inter-cadre deputation for three years.

Third India, Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue in New Delhi

  • The 3rd India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue was held in New Delhi. Senior officials from both sides and Services concerned with maritime affairs participated in the Dialogue. The two sides discussed ways to sustain a secure maritime environment conducive for inclusive growth. They also reviewed maritime cooperation initiatives and avenues of reinforcing international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security.
  • The second India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue was to be held in virtual format in April 2021 after the first round was held in Hanoi in March 2019.

India Carries Out Successful Training Launch of Agni-1 Ballistic Missile

  • A successful training launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, Agni-1, was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
  • The missile is a proven system, capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision. The user training launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile.
  • In December 2022, India had successfully test-fired nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V that can strike targets at ranges up to 5,000 km.
  • The Agni 1 to 4 missiles have ranges from 700 km to 3,500 km and they have already been deployed.

Ummalaneni to Head DRDO Missiles and Strategic Systems

  • Distinguished scientist and Director, RCI, Ummalaneni Raja Babu was appointed the Director General (missiles & strategic systems), DRDO, Hyderabad.
  • He replaced B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy following the latter's superannuation.
  • Babu, a graduate in mechanical engineering from Andhra University, obtained his Master's from IIT Kharagpur and MBA from JNTU.
  • He started his career with the Indian Air Force in 1988 and joined DRDO in 1995. In his 35-year aerospace career, he has worked on aircraft, helicopters and was a key member in the development of many missile systems.
  • It was under his leadership that 'Mission Shakti', India's first anti-satellite missile test (A-SAT) was demonstrated successfully.
  • Babu is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the 'Path-breaking research & outstanding technology development' award, Agni award, DRDO Scientist of the Year and Vigyan Pratibha Samman awards.

Indian Navy's P-8I Aircraft in Bahrain for Operation Compass Rose

  • Indian Navy's P-8I aircraft is in Bahrain to take part in the inaugural Operation Compass Rose being carried out by the Combined Maritime Force (CMF).
  • The team had productive conversations with representatives from the participating countries. This provided a forum for insightful conversations about issues of shared interest. The P-8I Squadron's Commanding Officer, Commander Amit Mohapatra, also met Indian Ambassador to Bahrain Piyush Srivastava.
  • India had decided to become an associate partner of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) at the 2+2 Ministerial discussions between India and the United States in April 2022. This action was aimed at improving cooperation on regional security in the western Indian Ocean.
  • After this, India formally began its cooperation with the CMF, an international partnership with its headquarters in Bahrain, in July 2022. The main goal of the CMF is to promote peace, stability, and prosperity over the enormous area of international waters, which measures around 3.2 million square miles. These waters encompass critical shipping lanes of global significance.

India-Saudi Naval Drill Concludes

  • The second edition of the bilateral exercise "Al Mohed Al Hindi 23" between the Indian Navy and the Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) has concluded off Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
  • INS Tarkash, INS Subhadra and Dornier Maritime Patrol aircraft participated in the exercise from the Indian side; the RSNF was represented by HMS Badr, Abdul Aziz and MH 60R copters.
  • The three-day exercise at sea witnessed a wide spectrum of maritime operations. It culminated with debrief at sea followed by traditional steam past.
  • The successful conduct of 'Al Mohed Al Hindi 23' showcased a high degree of professionalism, interoperability and exchanges of best practices between the two navies.
  • The bilateral exercise met all its objectives and both sides intend to graduate more advanced level of exercises in the next edition.
