NITI Aayog Announces Top Aspirational Districts in Education Sector

NITI Aayog has announced the top five aspirational districts in education sector.
It ranked the most improved aspirational districts in the education sector for September month.
As per NITI Aayog's delta rankings in education sector, Bhoopalpalli in Telangana topped. Bhoopalpalli is followed by: Chatra & Sahibganj in Jharkhand, Nuapada in Odisha and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
Delta ranking is released by NITI Aayog. It shows incremental progress in aspirational districts of India across developmental areas like health & nutrition, education, financial inclusion, agriculture & water resources, skill development and basic infrastructure.
Aspirational District Programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2018. The programme is implemented by NITI Aayog with the help of several stakeholders for improving the living standards of people in aspirational districts. This programme was launched with the aim of bringing rapid transformation in districts that have made comparative progress across key social sectors.

UK's Wellington College to Open its First School in Pune

As per reports, the UK's Wellington College International will open its first school in Pune. The college had last month announced its partnership with India's Unison Group to open premium schools in India.
The long-term strategy is to open a group of schools across India. The first school will open in Pune (opening 2023) and a second to be confirmed soon. We are looking to grow the number of schools, but at a pace where we can ensure the quality and exclusivity (rather than quantity) of provision," said Anuj Aggarwal, co-founder, Unison Education Foundation.

Army Ties up with University of Kashmir to Provide Distance Education Courses to Soldiers

The Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Kashmir for providing distance education course to soldiers posted in the valley.
The MoU was signed by Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Talat Ahmad and General Officer Commanding of Chinar Corps Lt Gen D P Pandey at Gandhi Hall, University of Kashmir.
As envisaged in the MoU, the soldiers of Indian Army posted in Kashmir, will be able to seek admission to various courses being offered by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir. The type of courses being made available to Army personnel range from six months certificate courses to one year diploma courses and two years post graduate courses.

Punjab Cabinet Approves Amendment to Make Punjabi Compulsory in Schools

In a bid to strictly enforce the implementation of Punjabi as a compulsory subject for all students of first to tenth class across the state, the Punjab Cabinet approved an amendment in Punjab Learning of Punjabi and other Languages Act, 2008.
After the amendment, the penalties will increase from Rs. 25,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 1 Lakh to Rs. 50,000, Rs. 1 Lakh and Rs. 2 Lakh, respectively for contravening the provisions of the said Act. The Cabinet also gave a go-ahead to introduce this bill in the current session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Britain Approves World's First Oral Pill to Treat Covid-19

Britain's health regulators have approved the world's first pill to treat cases of symptomatic COVID-19. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said, the antiviral molnupiravir has been found to be safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in people with mild to moderate COVID-19, who are at increased risk of developing the disease.

IIT-Bombay Best Institute in India, Chinese Universities Dominate QS Asia Rankings 2022

As many as 118 Indian universities figured in the QS World University rankings Asia 2022. Five Indian Institutes of Technology along with IISc and Delhi University entered the prestigious group of the top 100 institutes in Asia. IIT-Bombay grabs the 42nd position followed by IIT Delhi (45) and IIT Madras (54).
Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is placed at the 56th spot followed by IIT Kharagpur (60), IIT Kanpur (64), and University of Delhi (77), as per the data released today by QS.
In the top 10, five universities are from China. The National University of Singapore has secured the first position followed by Peking University at the second place and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) at the third position.
The QS Asia University Rankings highlight the top universities in Asia each year. The rankings are based on 11 indicators which include academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, international research network among others.

Panjab University Lifts MAKA Trophy for Third Year in a Row

Panjab University will receive Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for best all-round performance in sports among Indian varsities for third year in a row.
The ministry of youth affairs and sports announced the National Sports Awards 2021. The winners will receive the awards from the President at a function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 13.
PU has retained the trophy since 2019, when it lifted it after a gap of 13 years. The varsity has held the trophy as many as 15 times already.
The trophy is presented to the overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments.

New NCC Syllabus to be Implemented in Jharkhand Schools and Colleges

New syllabus for National Cadet Corps (NCC) will be implemented in Jharkhand schools and colleges, NCC Additional Director General, Bihar and Jharkhand NCC Directorate, Major General M Indrabalan said.
The new syllabus will be included under choice based credit system and the Jharkhand government has given permission for it.
Major General M Indrabalan, Additional Director General, Bihar-Jharkhand NCC Directorate informed that so far many changes have been made in the training of cadets by NCC, in which the unique step is to implement it as a subject in the university according to the new education system. Under the new scheme, NCC cadets will get the benefit of marks in their performance as well as get academic recognition.
