IIT Gandhinagar Research Park's Robotic Toy Start-Up Gets Selected for Stanford Seed Programme

A consumer electronics and robotics company from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, with its research centre at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) IIT Gandhinagar Research Park was selected for the Stanford Seed programme for the current year. The name of the consumer electronics and robotics company is Havi.
Only about 90 start-ups from across the globe get an opportunity to be part of this programme by Stanford Graduate School of Business (Stanford GSB) every year, and Havi is one of the few companies selected from India and the only company shortlisted from Gujarat.

US Scientists Develop Vaccine that Can Protect from Nipah Virus in 3 Days

Scientists at the University of Texas have developed a vaccine that could protect against the deadly Nipah virus in just three days.
Nipah is a zoonotic virus (transmitted from animals to humans), which can be spread through contaminated food or directly between humans on exposure to secretions. The virus had three outbreaks in India in the last four years, and has so far claimed nearly 20 lives, including a 12-year-old boy from Kerala.
Much like Covid, infection from Nipah virus spreads through respiratory droplets. But it is far more lethal, killing up to three-quarters of people it infects. It has also been listed as one of the viruses most likely to cause the next pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Uttarakhand's Rashtriya Indian Military College to Open Doors for Girl Students

Opening its doors for girls for the first time in its 100-year history, Dehradun-based Rashtriya Indian Military College will admit girls from the new session starting in July this year.
The announcement was made by RIMC commandant Col Ajay Kumar at a function to mark 100 years of the institution's existence.
RIMC is the first military training institution of the sub-continent.
Inaugurated on March 13, 1922 by the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII, to educate and train Indian youth as part of the 'Indianisation' programme of the officer cadre of the British Indian Army, RIMC has emerged as the premier feeder institute for the prestigious National Defence Academy and Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

ISRO Young Scientist Programme to Select 150 School Students

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is organizing a special programme for school children called "YUva VIgyani KAryakram" (YUVIKA) or "Young Scientist Programme". Aimed at creating awareness about emerging trends in science and technology, this programme is expected to encourage more students to pursue research and a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The ISRO Young Scientist Programme is a residential programme and will span over two weeks during the summer vacations from May 16, 2022, to May 28, 2022.
This program includes invited talks, experience sharing by eminent scientists, experimental demonstrations, facility and lab visits, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
A total of 150 class 9 students across the country will be selected for the programme.
The programme is planned at five centres of ISRO, i.e. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, U.R. Rao Satellite Centre, Space Application Centre, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad and North-East Space Application Centre.

India's First Medical City 'Indrayani Medicity' to Set up in Maharashtra

The state government of Maharashtra announced to set up the country's first medical city named as 'Indrayani Medicity' in Pune, to provide all kinds of specialised treatment under one roof. It will come up in 300-acre of land area in Khed taluka of Pune. The project is estimated to attract investment worth over Rs. 10,000 crore.
Indrayani Medicity will have hospitals, centres for medical research, pharmaceutical manufacturing, wellness and physiotherapy, and will be the first-of-its-kind city in the country to have all the treatments available at one place.
The Medicity will have about 24 separate hospital buildings, each housing one department. The Medicity will not only benefit Pune but will also be useful for people from neighbouring districts who come to the city for better treatment.

India Saw Longest Covid-led School Closure: UNESCO

As per the UNESCO report, India is the second country after Uganda where offline schools were shut for the longest period of time. However, the report does not mention the methodology used in the study and the source of this data is stated to be a study by a non-governmental organization.

Mission Indradhanush: Odisha Tops List of Full Immunisation with 90.5% Coverage

Odisha became the only state in the country to achieve 90.5% of immunization apart from the successful vaccination against Covid-19 infection under Mission Indradhanush 4.0.
In a step towards preventive health care for mothers and children, the intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 was rolled out in the state from March 7 for boosting full immunization coverage of the targeted women and children.
Twenty districts of the state were above 90% in full immunization, and 10 districts were below 90%.
Generally, full immunisation includes preventive doses against 12 different kinds of diseases including polio, tuberculosis, jaundice, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, HIV, brain fever, pneumonia, measles, rubella, diarrhea, Japanese fever, and others.

Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu Urges States to Implement New Education Policy 2020

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu appealed to all the states to implement the National Education Policy 2020 with missionary zeal to bring about transformation in the learning-teaching ecosystem.
He also said that the NEP is a visionary document that aimed at ushering in much-needed reforms in the education sector to meet the demands of the 21st century.
The NEP 2020 lays special emphasis on vocational, pre-primary and primary education, improving quality of teaching, creative use of technology and flexibility and excellence in higher studies, said Naidu who was on a two-day visit to Sikkim.
He virtually laid the foundation stone for the Kanchendzonga State University at Tarku in South Sikkim.

BIS Tie-up with IIT Roorkee for Activities on Standardisation

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and IIT Roorkee signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a 'BIS Standardization Chair Professor' at IIT Roorkee. This would be the first time BIS created a Standardization Chair in an Institute for activities related to standardisation and conformity assessment. It will aid in the establishment of standards on crucial areas such as IIT's BlockChain applications for e-governance.
The MoU will help the country's research, development, teaching, and training in the field of standardisation and conformity assessment, with a focus on civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and earthquake engineering, as well as the development and management of water resources and renewable energy projects, infrastructure development, medical biotechnology and nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomaterials, and other fields.

IIT Madras Partners with Walmart Global Tech to Accelerate Research and Skilling

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) partnered with Walmart Global Tech (WGT) to accelerate research in new areas of technology, provide Walmart associates with continuing education and collaborate on projects for Corporate Social Responsibility for their India operations.
The MoU was signed at an event in Chennai in the presence of Suresh Kumar, Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Development Officer (CDO), Walmart Inc., (and alumnus of IITM), Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean - Alumni and Corporate Relations, IITM and the U.S. Consul General in Chennai, Ms. Judith Ravin.
WGT will use space in the IIT Madras Research Park to leverage the broader ecosystem and work with the start-up companies incubated by the IIT Madras Incubation Cell.
WGT will also have access to several short and long-term education and training programs to upskill talent and fit the changing needs of the retail and eCommerce industry.
