Hindi Writer Prof. Sharad Pagare Selected for Vyas Samman 2020

Well known Hindi writer, Prof. Sharad Pagare will be conferred with the prestigious Vyas Samman – 2020. He will be awarded the 31st Vyas Samman for his novel "Patliputru Ki Samragi". The Vyas Samman started in 1991, is given by KK Birla Foundation for an outstanding literary work in Hindi authored by an Indian citizen published during the last 10 years. It carries an award of four lakh rupees along with a citation and plaque.

Sportstar Aces Awards over Five Episodes

The annual Sportstar Aces Awards, which honour athletes and organisations for their achievements and contributions towards the betterment of sport in the country, will be held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2021 edition will be held over five episodes on March 27, April 1, 2, 3 and 4.
There are 11 awards under the Popular Choice category open for public voting. There are 14 Jury awards and a special recognition award under a new category — Sports for Good — where the work of organisations/individuals who have used sports as a tool for the betterment of society will be recognised.
The awards were launched in 1994 with a vision of celebrating the stars, the future stars and the tireless partners who have dedicated their lives to sports to realise the dream of making India a sporting nation.

Australian Authors Dominate Walter Scott Book Prize Shortlist

Australian authors make up the majority of contenders for the Walter Scott Prize for historical fiction.
Steven Conte, Kate Grenville and Pip Williams occupy three of the five potential winners' spots on the shortlist for the £25,000 award.
Maggie O'Farrell and Hilary Mantel are the other contenders.
The winner - usually announced at the Borders Book Festival in Melrose - will be announced online in June as that event has moved to a later date.
The shortlisted titles are: The Tolstoy Estate by Steven Conte, A Room Made of Leaves by Kate Grenville, The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel, Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell and The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams.
A statement from the judges said that it was the first time Australian writers had made up the majority of their shortlist.

'Chhichhore' Bags the National Film Award

Late Sushant Singh Rajput's film 'Chhichhore' bagged the National Film Award for best Hindi film at the 67th National Film Awards.
Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut was named best actress for her roles in 'Manikarnika' and 'Panga'.
Manoj Bajpayee and Dhanush shared the best actor honour for their roles in 'Bhonsle' and 'Asuran', respectively.
Director Priyadarshan's Malayalam film "Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham" was declared the best feature film and Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was named best director for Hindi film "Bahattar Hoorain" by the National Film Award jury, headed by filmmaker N Chandra, who said they judged the movies "not as gods but as parents".

Sheikh Mujibur ur Rehman Conferred Gandhi Peace Prize for 2020

The prestigious Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2020 has been awarded to Sheikh Mujibur ur Rehman, considered the father of the nation in Bangladesh.
According to a statement from the ministry of culture, the award, instituted in 1995, was conferred on the former Bangladesh leader after a jury committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its decision earlier in March 2021. The award carries a cash prize of Rs1 crore and a citation, besides a plaque.
The announcement comes ahead of Modi's visit to Dhaka to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman.

Sahitya Akademi Award 2020

In the "Poetry Category" the award was bestowed upon Harish Meenakshi (Gujarati), RS Bhaskar (Konkani), Anamika (Hindi), Irungbam Deven (Manipuri), Nikhileshwar (Telugu) and Rupchand Hansda (Santali). In the "Novel Category" Imaiyam (Tamil), Nanda Khare (Marathi), Mahesh Chandra Sharma Gautam (Sanskrit), and Sri Hussain-ul-Haque have been named as winner. While, Apurba Kumar Saikia (Assamese), Hiday Koul Bharti (Kashmiri), Dharanidhar Owari (Bodo), Gurdev Singh Rupana (Punjab) and Kamakant Jha (Maithili) have won the award for short stories.
These books were selected following the recommendations made by a jury of three members of the concerned languages. They made their final decision in accordance with the procedure which was set down for this purpose. Under it, the Executive Board declared the Awards based on unanimous selections made by jurors or selection made in accordance with the majority vote.
The National Academy of Letters has announced the names for the "Sahitya Akademi Award 2020. The names were announced during the opening of the annual "Festival of Letters" event.
The award will be bestowed upon the politician-writer M. Veerappa Moily, poet Arundhathi Subramaniam along with other 20 writers. Subramaniam have won the award for her poetry collection called "When God is a Traveller" in English. Veerappa Moily has been named for his epic poetry called "Sri Bahubali Ahimsa Digvijayam" in Kannada language. The list comprises seven books of poetry, five short stories, four novels, two plays, and one memoir and one epic poetry in 20 Indian languages. The awards for Nepali, Malayalam, Odia and Rajasthani Languages will be announced later.

Grammy Awards 2021

Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé; Brown Skin Girl, from Lion King: The Gift album.
Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy was also a winner on the song.
The Best Music Video award is given to the artist, video director and video producer.
Burna Boy, real name Damini Ogulu, a nominee for a second consecutive year, won with his Twice As Tall album.
The 63rd Grammy Awards was held in Los Angeles. Traditionally billed as "music's biggest night", this year's ceremony was different because of the coronavirus pandemic.
There was no audience, and performers were separated onto five stages, arranged in a circle inside the Los Angeles Convention Center to maintain social distancing.

Deepika Padukone Joins WEF List of Young Global Leader

Actress Deepika Padukone and several Indian citizens and India-origin persons joined the list of the Young Global Leaders (YGLs) compiled by the World Economic Forum.
Announcing its 2021 class of YGLs, the WEF said that these are the world's most promising 112 tomorrow's leaders under the age of 40 and are involved in activities ranging from advocating for public healthcare to campaigning for inclusivity in medical research.
They join a group of Nobel Prize recipients, Pulitzer winners, heads of state and chief executive officers committed to improving the state of the world, said the Geneva-based organisation that describes itself as an international organisation for public-private cooperation.
The Forum of Young Global Leaders was founded in 2005 by Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, to create a world where leaders take responsibility for a sustainable future while meeting increasingly complex and interrelated challenges.
