Kathryn Bryce, Mushfiqur Rahim Named ICC Players of the Month for May

  • Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Scotland all-rounder Kathryn Bryce have been named the ICC Players of the Month for May 2021. Both cricketers have received the awards following exemplary performances for their teams.
  • The ICC Player of the Month is a monthly award presented since January 2021 by the International Cricket Council to recognise cricketers, male and female, that have best performed across all forms of international cricket.
  • An independent ICC Voting Academy comprising former players, broadcasters and journalists from around the world team up with fans to vote for the ICC Men's Player of the Month and ICC Women's Player of the Month.

IIT Roorkee Wins NSG Award

  • A professor from IIT Roorkee, Prof. Shailesh Ganpule, has received the 'NSG Counter-IED & Counter-Terrorism Innovator Award 2021' for his design of a blast-resistant helmet. The award was conferred to the professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department (MIED) in a ceremony held at NSG Campus, Manesar, Haryana.
  • Blast-induced traumatic brain injury has been identified as a signature wound in recent asymmetric conflicts. Military helmets are classically designed for protection against ballistic impact, with little to no attention for protection against blast.
  • The 'Blast-Resistant Helmet' designed by Prof. Shailesh Ganpule is an advanced version of conventional helmets to protect military personnel from IED-induced blast waves with a technology readiness of 4.

Pulitzer Prize 2021

  • Megha Rajagopalan, an Indian-origin journalist, along with two contributors has won the Pulitzer Prize for innovative investigative reports that exposed a vast infrastructure of prisons and mass internment camps secretly built by China for detaining hundreds of thousands of Muslims in its restive Xinjiang region.
  • 'Rajagopalan's Xinjiang series won the Pulitzer Prize in the International Reporting category.

Tendulkar 'Delighted' to See Vinoo Mankad Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

  • Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar expressed "delight" to see former India cricketer Vinoo Mankad being inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame.
  • The ICC announced a special edition intake of 10 cricket icons into the ICC Hall of Fame to celebrate the prestigious history of Test cricket, and to coincide with the first-ever ICC World Test Championship final.
  • The 10 legends of the game to be inducted have all made a significant contribution to the history of Test cricket, and join an illustrious list of ICC Hall of Famers, taking the total number to 103 as a result of this intake.

Lt Mukesh Kumar Bags IMA Sword of Honour

  • A total of 425 cadets passed out of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun with the coveted Sword of Honour being awarded to Battalion Under Officer Mukesh Kumar, who is alumnus of the Rashtriya Military School, Ajmer.
  • There are five such schools under the Ministry of Defence and besides Ajmer, they are located at Bengaluru, Belgaum, Chail, and Dholpur.
  • The gold medal for the Cadet First in the order of merit was awarded to Academy Under Officer Deepak Singh, the silver medal was awarded to Battalion Under Officer Mukesh Kumar, the bronze medal went to Academy Cadet Adjutant Loveneet Singh. In the technical stream the first in the Order of Merit was Junior Under Officer Daksh Kumar Pant, while Junior Under Officer Kinley Norbu from Bhutan is first in the Order of Merit among Foreign cadets. The Chief of Army Staff Banner for standing Overall First amongst 16 'companies' was awarded to 'Dograi Company'. Western Army Commander Lt Gen RP Singh reviewed the parade, keeping Covid protocols in mind.

Tillotama Shome Wins Best Actor Award at UK Asian Film Festival

  • Tillotama won the award for her film Raahgir: The Wayfarers, which is directed by Goutam Ghose.
  • Shot in Jharkhand, the film also stars Adil Hussain and Neeraj Kabi. It revolves around three strangers, who live on a daily wage basis.
  • Raahgir: The Wayfarers was earlier screened at several film festivals -- including Busan International Film Festival, MAMI - Mumbai Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival and Cinemasia Film Festival.
  • Tillotama is best known for her intense roles in movies like Qissa, Shadows of Time, The Waiting City and Children of War.
