Mumbai Teen Named 2021 International Young Eco-Hero for Environment Project

Twelve-year old Ayaan Shankta, an environment activist, has been named as the 2021 International Young Eco-Hero in recognition of his efforts to solve tough environmental problems.
Ayaan Shankta won the third place in the 8-14 age category for his project Conservation and Rehabilitation of Powai Lake.
He is one of the 25 young environmental activists from across the globe honoured by the Action for Nature (AFN) as a 2021 International Young Eco-Hero, an award that recognizes eco-conscious youth aged 8 to 16 who are taking crucial steps to solve tough environmental problems.

UNESCO Literacy Prizes

The UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize was awarded to:
Limitless Horizons Ixil in Guatemala for its 'Broadcasting Bilingual Stories: Promoting Interactive Literacy Programming in Rural Guatemala' programme.
National Institute of Open Schooling in India for its 'Enabling education of persons with disabilities through technology enabled inclusive learning material, with specific focus on Indian sign language-based content' programme.
Puku Children's Literature Foundation in South Africa for its 'Using digital technologies to promote children's literature in South Africa's indigenous languages' programme.
The UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy was awarded to:
ONG GA-TIC Côte d'Ivoire in Côte d'Ivoire for its 'Functional literacy for traders in Abidjan through the use of ICT' programme.
Ain-Shams University in Egypt for its 'Ain Shams University experience in organizing online literacy classes for rural areas in Egypt' programme.
Construyendo y Creciendo in Mexico for its 'Building & Growing' programme.

Shailendra Singh Wins Global Award in Turtle Conservation

Indian biologist Shailendra Singh was awarded the Behler Turtle Conservation Award for bringing three critically endangered turtle conservation species back from the brink of extinction. Shailendra Singh was named to lead the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA)/ Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) India turtle programme.
The award has been bestowed by several global bodies involved in turtle conservation such as Turtle Survival Alliance, IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group, Turtle Conservancy, and Turtle Conservation Fund.
The Behler Turtle Conservation Award was established in 2006 to recognise outstanding achievements, contributions and leadership excellence in international turtle conservation and biology.

Namita Gokhale Honoured with 7th Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award

Writer Namita Gokhale has been chosen as the recipient of the seventh Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award. She was conferred upon the honour recently in a virtual ceremony. She is a co-founder and co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Gokhale also mentors Himalayan Echoes and the Kumaon Festival of Literature and the Arts.

Sarabhai Teacher Scientist National Honorary Award 2021

'Super 30' founder and mathematician Anand Kumar was conferred the 'Sarabhai Teacher Scientist National Honorary Award 2021' by the National Council of Teacher Scientist (NCTS) for making mathematics easy to learn and coaching the underprivileged students to succeed in the IIT exams.
Kumar, a native of Bihar, who has been coaching underprivileged students since nearly two decades for JEE-Advanced, the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology, was also awarded the life membership of the organisation during a virtual event held on the occasion of the Teachers' Day.
