CISF Raising Day

  • CISF Raising Day is observed annually on March 10 to honour the establishment and the valuable contributions of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in safeguarding India's critical infrastructure. CISF plays a vital role in protecting airports, seaports, nuclear plants, metro networks, and various government and industrial establishments. This special day serves as a tribute to the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of CISF personnel, highlighting their commitment to national security.
  • CISF was formed on March 10, 1969, under the CISF Act of the Parliament of India. It started with as many as 2,800 personnel for the better protection and security of industrial undertakings in the country. Three battalions were formed to provide integrated security cover to the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) which, in those years, occupied the commanding heights of the economy.

  • Jan Aushadhi Diwas, observed annually on March 7, celebrates the promotion and accessibility of affordable generic medicines under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
  • Launched in 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, PMBJP addresses the issue of expensive branded medicines by offering affordable, generic alternatives.

World Obesity Day

  • Every year on March 4, the world observes World Obesity Day to increase awareness of the obesity epidemic. National Safety Day

  • India observes National Safety Day (NSD) on March 4. This day emphasises importance for every industry to prioritise safety and precautionary measures. It entails creating a safe and healthy environment, and ensuring everyone should be aware of the safety guidelines that any company can follow.
  • National Safety Day traces its origins to 1966, when the National Safety Council of India (NSC) was founded by the Ministry of Labour. Its mission was to promote national security, public health, and environmental protection.
  • In 1972, the NSC designated March 4 as National Safety Day, setting the stage for an annual observance aimed at spreading safety awareness across various sectors of society.
  • The theme for National Safety Day 2025 is 'Safety and Well-being Crucial for Viksit Bharat.'

World Hearing Day

  • World Hearing Day is celebrated every year on March 3 to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and health care across the world.
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) first acknowledged World Hearing Day in 2007. Previously, it was known as International Ear Care Day. In 2016, the WHO officially renamed it World Hearing Day. Each year, a unique theme is selected, and educational materials are developed in multiple languages to spread awareness.

World Wildlife Day

  • Every year, World Wildlife Day is celebrated on March 3 to spread awareness about the importance of flora and fauna. This day encourages people to support conservation efforts, adopt sustainable practices and coexist peacefully with nature.
  • World Wildlife Day was established by the United Nations in 2013 after Thailand proposed to dedicate a day to raise awareness about wildlife conservation. On December 20, 2013, the UN General Assembly officially declared March 3 as World Wildlife Day with the first celebration taking place in 2014.
  • The theme of World Wildlife Day 2025 is 'Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet.' It focuses on finding better ways to fund wildlife conservation while ensuring a sustainable future for both nature and communities.
