Mauritian National Day

National Day in Mauritius is a public holiday that is celebrated annually on 12th March.
This holiday is the national day of Mauritius and it marks two key events in the recent history of the country that both took place on 12 March; independence from Britain in 1968 and becoming a republic in 1992.
In 1959, British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan had given his famous 'Winds of Change' speech, stating the British government's intention to give independence to many of its overseas colonies. This led to an increasing call within Mauritius for self-rule.
The elections of 1966 resulted in a victory for an alliance of the Mauritius Labour Party and other self-rule parties.
On 12th March 1968, Mauritius adopted its new constitution and gained independence as a constitutional monarchy. Queen Elizabeth II remained head of state and Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan became the first Prime Minister of Mauritius.

World Kidney Day

World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of the kidneys and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
World Kidney Day is observed annually on the 2nd Thursday in March. At the start of this holiday, 66 countries observed this date in 2006. Within two years, this number rose to 88. WKD is a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF). This holiday was intended to raise awareness about conditions of the kidney; although many are treatable, they are a secondary medical concern of the greater population.

Traditional 'Fagli' Festival in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur

The traditional "Fagli" festival at kinnaur district in Yangpa village, Himachal Pradesh is celebrated every year in March. This festival is celebrated to denote the end of the winter and the start of the Spring. It is mainly celebrated on the moonless night.
It is also celebrated to receive blessings from Deota (God) for the upcoming harvest season.
Men start to dance in circles wearing their traditional attire and face masks, where a large number of local people gather to watch the event.

UNGCNI Organises 3rd Gender Equality Summit 2020

UNGCNI (United Nations Global Compact Network India), a country level platform for public & private sector, businesses to align stakeholders' responsible practices towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), organised the 3rd edition of its Gender Equality Summit 2020 with the theme "India Inc. For Generation Equality: Decade of Action" in New Delhi.
The summit, aimed to create a strong roadmap towards gender equality at workplaces in India, focused on driving and bringing in change for equal opportunities in employment and growth for the women skill workforce.
The summit also coincided with the International Women's day (March 8), and consequently linked the international theme with the Indian context to underscore the present generation as a main role and the India Inc as a key catalyst for gender equality.
The summit saw the participation of over 250 leaders including Nishtha Satyam, Deputy Representative of UN Women MCO for India, Bhutan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka & Anjali Singh, MD, Deutsche Bank to share insights on 'women empowerment.

Chapchar Kut, the Biggest and most Joyful Festival of Mizos

"Chapchar Kut", the biggest and oldest festival of Mizoram, is celebrated in March 2020. The pre-celebration started on 5th March 2020, with the mega event held at the Assam Rifles Ground at Aizawl. This festival is considered as the most popular spring festival celebrated on Mizoram.It is originated in- 1450-1700 A.D at Suaipui village.
This was celeberated with Traditional bamboo dance, 'Cheraw' and other dances, music events wwere performed at the main event.
The Art & Culture Minister R Lalzirliana of Mizoram welcomed all people to participate in the event.
The festival is celebrated after the arduous task, Jhum farming (slash and burn method of cultivation).

2020 BusinessLine Changemaker Awards

It's that time of the year when BusinessLine celebrates people who have brought about positive changes in the world we live in. On March 6, the winners of the BusinessLine Changemaker Awards will be felicitated at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi.
The winners will be announced across six categories: Changemaker-Social Transformation, Changemaker — Digital Transformation, Changemaker — Financial Transformation, Young Changemaker, Iconic Changemaker and, finally, Changemaker of the Year.
Among hundreds of nominations received for the Social Transformation category, five were short-listed after many rounds of screening and evaluation.

New Delhi Hosts India Smart Utility Week 2020 (ISUW)

New Delhi based Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) organised India Smart Utility Week 2020 (ISUW) as an International Conference and Exhibition on Smart Energy and Water for Smarter Cities India in New Delhi from March 3-7, 2020.
The program aimed to bring together India's leading Electricity, Gas and Water Utilities, Policy Makers, Regulators, Investors and world's leading Smart Energy Experts and Researchers to discuss trends, share best practices and showcase new age technologies and products in smart energy and smart cities domains.
It saw the participation of over 1800 + delegates and 288 speakers from 41 countries.

The Future of Work: Women in India's Workforce' Seminar

Ministry of Women and Child Development and the World Bank organised a discussion programme on the "The Future of Work: Women in India's Workforce" in New Delhi. Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Women and Child Development along with Dr. Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Country Director India, World Bank, inaugurated the programme. Ms. Pushpa Subrahmanyam, Secretary Food Processing Industry, Praveen Kumar, Secretary Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Sanjeev Kaushik, Additional Secretary, Financial Services and Ajay Tirkey,Special Secretary, Ministry of WCD were present on this occasionalong with women entrepreneurship and other stakeholders.
This discussion programme was part of series of events to observe International Women's Day 2020 to celebrate the achievements of women in business, women enablers and public, private and civil society organisations.
