World Sparrow Day

On 20th March, World Sparrow Day is observed every year to raise awareness about sparrows and other common birds affected by the environment which are on the verge of extinction.
World Sparrow Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. Every year celebration is organised according to a theme. The theme for World Sparrow Day is "I Love Sparrows" and is pictured like " I ♥ Sparrows". It is a hope that with this theme more people will join several events and campaigns to protect the sparrows.

International Day of Happiness

The International Day of Happiness is celebrated across the world every year on March 20. It was initially founded and conceptualized in 2006 by Jayme Illien, CEO of the United Nations New World Order project. But it was on March 20, 2013, when the first-ever International Day of Happiness was celebrated with the launch of UNDOHappiness.
World Happiness Day theme 2020 is all about being happier together. The theme mainly focuses on what we have in common instead of focusing on the things that divide us. The theme of 2020 is 'Happiness For All'. The very first International Happiness Day was observed on March 20 in the year 2013 and since then it is being celebrated every year. The campaign theme of International Day of Happiness 2020 is "Happiness For All, For Ever" that aims at focusing on what we have in common, rather than what divides us. As nowadays migration is increasing, people from different countries and backgrounds are living side by side. Communities are now made up of people with several beliefs like religious, political, etc.

Ordnance Factory Day

Ordnance Factory Day is celebrated every year on 18th March in India. The production of India's oldest Ordnance Factory in Kosipur, Kolkata was started on 18th March 1802. Ordnance Factory, Field Gun Factory, Small Arms Factory, Ordnance Parachute Factory and Ordnance Equipment Factory celebrate this day with great fanfare in Ordnance Factories in which employees of all categories participate in various organised events. This day commemorates the display of guns, ammunition, rifles, artillery etc. in exhibitions all over India. Exhibitions are usually open to all. The ceremony begins with a parade. Apart from this, photographs of several mountaineering expeditions are also displayed in the exhibition.

Global Recycling Day

Global Recycling Day is celebrated on 18th March. This year was the third annual Global Recycling Day – an international initiative aiming to promote the value of recycling in the development of the circular economy.
Global Recycling Day, which was first set up in 2018 by the Bureau for International Recycling (BIR), aims to encourage people to consider recycled or recyclable materials as a 'Seventh Resource' – after water, air, coal, oil, natural gas and minerals – which can play an important role in climate change mitigation.

World Consumer Rights Day 2020

World Consumer Rights Day is observed annually on March 15 in over 120 countries across the globe.
Each year there is a specific theme to celebrate the World Consumer Rights Day which addresses different concerns regarding all consumers. According to the Consumers International organisation "the theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2020, is 'The Sustainable Consumer'. The campaign discussed the need for sustainable consumption globally, as well as highlighted the important role that consumer rights and protection can play.
The idea of World Consumer Rights Day was inspired by President John F Kennedy. On March 15 1962, President John F Kennedy sent a special message to the US Congress formally addressing the issue of consumer rights. He was the first world leader to do so.
On April 9, 1985, the United Nations approved the general guidelines for consumer protection. In the year 1983, the first celebration of World Consumer Rights Day was marked. Since then, this day (World Consumer Rights Day) is celebrated annually on March 15.

First Regional Edition of Divya Kala Shakti Event Held in Chennai

First regional edition of "Divya Kala Shakti Event" (Witnessing the Abilities in Disabilities) held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN). Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of TN witnessed the performances and V. Saroja, Minister of Social Welfare and Nutritious Noon Meal programme and senior officers participated in the occasion.
The event was organised by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), in association with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The Divya Kala Shakti event aimed to provide a platform for the disabled to exhibit their talents.
Divya Kala event brought 98 children and youth with various disabilities, including vision and hearing impairment, locomotor disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and other intellectual disabilities.
The participants were from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.
Divyangjan performed dance, music, instrumental in classic, folk and modern style. The event also held yoga and acrobatics for the first time.

Wings India 2020, Civil Aviation Exhibition, Airshow

The four-day civil aviation business exhibition and air show, Wings India 2020 was held from 12th March to 15th March.
The biennial event was organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) along with Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India at the Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad.
The biennial event had dazzling aerobatics performances twice a day by two teams — Sarang, the helicopter aerobatics team of Indian Air Force and Global Stars team of British pilots on fixed wing aircrafts.
The event also hosted conferences between various company heads and a CEO's forum. In the last edition of the event, about 700 delegates participated from across the world.

Pi Day

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format) since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of π.In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.
Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (22/7 in the day/month format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of π, which is accurate to two decimal places and dates from Archimedes.
Two Pi Day, also known as Tau Day for the mathematical constant Tau, is lightly observed on June 28 (6/28 in the month/day format).
In 1988, the earliest known official or large-scale celebration of Pi Day was organized by Larry Shaw at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where Shaw worked as a physicist, with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, then consuming fruit pies. The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations.
On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (111 H. Res. 224), recognizing March 14, 2009 as National Pi Day.

Week Long 1st EKAM Festival Held in New Delhi

A week long exhibition-cum-fair, the first "EKAM Festival" organized by National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (NHFDC) under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment was held in Emporia Complex, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi from 2nd March to 9th March 2020. It was inaugurated by Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot.
EKAM, an acronym for Entrepreneurship, Knowledge, Awareness, Marketing, was aimed to showcase products made with extra ordinary determination by the divyang (differently-abled) crafts persons and entrepreneurs.
Eighty-two divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 17 States/ UTs showcased their products.
