National Farmers Day

Kisan Diwas or National Farmers Day is observed on December 23 across the country to praise the farmers as they are the spine of India. The day was chosen to honour the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh. He was born on December 23, 1902.
Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Kisan Leader, served in the country for a very short period from July 28, 1979, to January 14, 1980. He had introduced several welfare schemes for the farmers and wrote several books on farmers and their problems depicting various solutions to improve the lives of the farmers of the nation. Therefore, the government, in 2001, decided to mark Charan Singh's birth anniversary as Kisan Diwas.
Chaudhary Charan Singh followed the famous slogan — "JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN" which was given to the farmers by Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India.
The Farmers Day is also celebrated in other parts of the world. In Ghana, the Farmers Day is celebrated on the first Friday of December. In Pakistan, it is celebrated as Kisan Day on December 18. The first Farmers Day in Pakistan was celebrated in 2019. In the USA, it is celebrated on October 12. In Zambia, it is celebrated on the first Monday of August.

National Mathematics Day

National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on December 22, honouring the birth anniversary of mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Before he died at the age of 32 from tuberculosis, he had already given the world around 3500 mathematical formulae that scientists have still not been able to completely prove. The main objective behind celebrating the day is to raise awareness among people about the importance of mathematics for the development of humanity.
This was announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2012 at Madras University, to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. On this occasion Singh also announced that 2012 would be celebrated as the National Mathematics Year.

Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates Rampur's 'Hunar Haat'

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the 23rd edition of Minority Affairs Ministry's 'Hunar Haat' in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur through video conferencing.
Hunar Haat, which is a platform for products made by traditional artisans and craftsmen, is being organised from December 18 to 27 at Numaish Ground, Panvadiya, Rampur.
Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Khadi and Village Industries Commission Chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena and Uttar Pradesh's Minister for Khadi and Villages Industries and MSME Sidharth Nath Singh were present as the chief guests at the event.
As per Naqvi, Hunar Haat has become an effective mission of the Centre to provide "backup to brilliance" and "encouragement to expertise.
The next Hunar Haat will be organised at Shilp Gram, Lucknow from January 22 to 31 with the theme of 'vocal for local'. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Hunar Haat to be organised at Lucknow.

Goa Liberation Day 2020

Goa Liberation Day is observed on December 19 every year in India and it marks the day Indian armed forces freed Goa in 1961 following 450 years of Portuguese rule. The Portuguese colonised several parts of India in 1510 but by the end of the 19th-century Portuguese colonies in India were limited to Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Anjediva Island. The Goa liberation movement, which sought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Goa, started off with small scale revolts.
Goa Liberation Day is marked by an abundance of events and festivities in Goa though this time because of the pandemic the celebrations are to be muted. A torchlight procession is ignited from three different locations in the state, eventually all meeting at the Azad Maidan. This is where a tribute is made to those who lost their lives in the takeover of Goa.

Minorities Rights Day (India)

Minorities Rights Day is observed on December 18 in India. This day also focuses on bringing a better understanding and educating people about the issues related to minorities and their safety.
The aim of the day is to advance and protect the privileges of the individuals to have a place with linguistic, religion, castes and color minority.
The Ministry was established on 29th January 2006. It was carved out of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The Minister responsible is Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi at present.
The Union Government established the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. Five religious communities have been notified as minority community namely Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis). Further, according to the notification detail of 27th January 2014, Jains have also been notified as a minority community.

International Migrants Day

On 4th December 2000, the General Assembly, taking into account the large and increasing number of migrants in the world, proclaimed 18th December as International Migrants Day. On that day, in 1990, the Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
Each year on December 18, the United Nations, through the UN-related agency International Organisation for Migration (UN Migration), uses International Migrants Day to highlight the contributions made by the roughly 272 million migrants, including more than 41 million internally displaced persons, (IDPs) and the challenges they face.
This global event, supported by events organised by IOM's nearly 500 country offices and sub-offices as well as governmental, international and domestic civil society partners examines a wide range of migration themes, Social Cohesion, Dignity, Exploitation, Solidarity to advocate for migration guided by the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society.
