International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is celebrated every year on November 25. According to the United Nations (UN), violence against women and girls (VAWG) manifests in several forms. From violence inflicted by an intimate partner to human trafficking and child marriage, there are several forms that cause trauma to women and girls across the world.
The Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women was issued by the UN General Assembly in 1993 and it states that violence against women is "any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life."
The theme of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2021 is 'Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now' Orange colour represents a brighter future free of violence against women and girls.

Assam Celebrates Lachit Divas

Lachit Divas (Lachit Day) is celebrated annually in the Indian state of Assam on November 24, to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary Ahom army general Lachit Borphukan. Lachit Borphukan was born on 24 November 1622 in Charaideo and is known for his military intelligence in the Battle of Saraighat.
Every year, since 1999, the 'Lachit Borphukan Gold Medal' is awarded to the best cadet passing-out from the National Defence Academy. The 'Mahabir Lachit Award' is given by the Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad in Assam to notable personalities. The cash prize of Rs 50000 and a sword is presented under this award.
The Battle of Saraighat was fought between the Ram Singh-led Mughal army and the Lachit Borphukan-led Ahom army in the year 1671 on the banks of the Brahmaputra river. Chao Lachit was the Borphukan (Army general) of the Ahom army. Ram Singh, the elder son of Amber ruler Mirza Raja Jai Singh, was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb to invade the Ahom kingdom. The Mughal army was larger and powerful than the Ahom army, but Lachit, with his powerful use of terrain, leadership skills and Guerrilla warfare saved Saraighat from the Mughal invasion, present-day in Guwahati. He died a natural death in April 1672 in Jorhat, and his remains are present in the Lachit Maidan near Jorhat.

Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurates ISRO's five-day Technology Conclave-21

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated ISRO's five-day Technology Conclave-2021 and highlighted the Futuristic and Disruptive Technologies to be developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO.
The conclave is being organized by the Directorate of Technology Development and Innovation, DTDI under the aegis of ISRO.

Fifth East Asia Summit (EAS) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation

The fifth EAS Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation will be held in Kolkata on 23-24 November 2021.
The event is being organized by India in partnership with Australia. Apart from the two governments, organizers include the ASEAN-India Centre (AIC) at Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) in collaboration with National Maritime Foundation (NMF) and the Research Centre for East and North East Regional Studies, Kolkata (CENERS-K).

World Television Day

World Television Day is observed on November 21 to highlight the daily value of television that it plays in communication and globalisation.
On 21 November and 22 November, 1996, the U.N. held the first World Television Forum. It provides a platform and allowed the media to discuss the importance of TV in delivering information and also how it participating in the changing world. It is the single largest source of video consumption.
Therefore, UN General Assembly on 17 December 1996 through resolution 51/205 established 21 November as World Television Day to commemorate the date on which World Television Forum was held.

World Fisheries Day

World Fisheries Day is celebrated on November 21 every year throughout the world by the fisherfolk communities. It highlights the importance of healthy oceans ecosystems and to ensure sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world. 2020 is the fourth World Fisheries Day.
The World Fisheries Day helps in highlighting the critical importance to human lives, of water and the lives it sustains, both in and out of water. Water forms a continuum, whether contained in rivers, lakes, and ocean. Fishing communities worldwide celebrate this day through rallies, workshops, public meetings, cultural programs, dramas, exhibition, music show, and demonstrations to highlight the importance of maintaining the world's fisheries.

International Children's Day

World Children's Day is observed annually on November 20 to commemorate the day of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly on the same day in 1959. The day is celebrated globally to promote the rights of children besides improving their standard of living. It also promotes international togetherness and raises awareness among children to improve their welfare.
Though Children's Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries, International Children's Day is a global observance that is marked on November 20.
