National Maritime Day 2022

  • National Maritime Day in India is observed on April 5 every year. This year (2022) was the 59th edition of the National Maritime Day.
  • National Maritime Day was first celebrated on April 5, 1964. The saga of Indian shipping first started on April 5, 1919, when the SS Loyalty, the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd travelled from Mumbai to the United Kingdom (London). On this day an award called "Varuna" is conferred to those who made an outstanding contribution to the Indian maritime sector.
  • The theme of the National Maritime Day 2022 was "Sustainable Shipping beyond Covid-19''.

International Day of Mine Awareness

  • The United Nations' International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is celebrated every year on the 4th of April. The day aims to raise awareness about landmines and progress toward their eradication. "Mine action" refers to a range of efforts to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war and to mark and fence off dangerous areas.
  • In 2022 the United Nations Mine Action Service marked the Day under the theme "Safe Ground, Safe Steps, Safe Home." The focus of the observance is on the impressive achievements of the global mine action community, starting with the work of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL).

World Autism Day

  • World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognised day which is observed on April 2 every year. The Day encourages Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout the world. World Autism Day is one of only seven official health-specific UN Days.
  • The theme of World Autism Day 2022 was "Inclusive Quality Education for All".

Odisha Day or Utkal Divas is Celebrated on 1st April

  • Utkal Divas or Utakala Dibasha or Odisha Day is celebrated on April 1 every year to remember the formation of the Odisha state after a struggle to be recognised as an independent state. Odisha came into existence on the 1st of April 1936. The state was originally called Orissa but the Lok Sabha passed the Orissa Bill, and Constitution Bill (113rd amendment), in March 2011 to rename it Odisha. Oriya language was also retitled as Odia.
  • The earlier capital city of Odisha was Cuttack whereas the current capital city is Bhubaneswar. In terms of tribal population, Odisha is the 3rd state in the country. Various rulers ruled the state. More than 31% of the state has been covered with forests.

International Day of Drug Checking 2022

  • The International Day of Drug Checking takes place on March 31 every year since 2017 to ensure people are educated on drugs and aware of their effects. The day aims to promote harm reduction initiatives of drugs and reduce drug-related risks. Along with it, it also marks promoting harm reduction actions of drugs and reduces drug-related risks. Their goal on the 31st of March is to raise public awareness of the availability of drug checking services and companies from across the planet.
