ITBP Raising Day

Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) observes Raising Day on October 24.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is a border guarding force of India deployed along its borders with Tibet Autonomous Region. It was established in 1962 in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. It was raised under the CRPF Act.
It was raised with a strength of 4 battalions for collecting intelligence, fighting conventional and guerrilla warfare and improving Indian communication systems along the Chinese border.

World Development Information Day

Every year October 24 is celebrated as World Development Information Day (WDID). This day is observed to discuss development problems on a global scale and invite public opinion on the same.
In 1972, the General Assembly established World Development Information Day to draw the attention of the world to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them.

World Polio Day

World Polio Day is celebrated every year on October 24 to create awareness around the importance of polio vaccination to protect children.
In the year 1988, there were around 3.5 lakh polio cases worldwide and the World Health Assembly resolved to eradicate the poliovirus. In 2002, WHO European Region was declared polio-free and from that time on October 24 every year, the World Polio Day is celebrated annually.

United Nations Day

United Nations Day is celebrated on October 24 every year. It marks the official establishment of the United Nations in 1945. On this day, the UN Charter was ratified by the majority of signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, and this led to the official establishment of UN. The Day was first celebrated in 1948. The UN, in 1971, also recommended the member states to observe it as a public holiday. The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Tonga to the UN is funding this year's UN Day Concert, which has as its theme The Frontlines of Climate Action, with assistance from the PVBLIC Foundation's Family Offices for Sustainable Development (FOSD).

Mole Day

Mole Day is marked on October 23 annually and is celebrated by chemists, chemistry students and chemistry enthusiasts across the world.
The day is commemorated in honor of Avogadro's number (6.02 x 1023) and is marked from 6:02 a.m. to 6:02 p.m.
The aim is to make students interested in chemistry by directing various activities associated with moles and chemistry.
The day originated around the 1980s when an article appeared in The Science Teacher. Later, a retired high school chemistry teacher, Maurice Oehler from Wisconsin, USA, drew inspiration from the article and founded the National Mole Day Foundation.
When written in American format, the day resembles the Avogadro number, which signifies the number of molecules or atoms contained in a mole.

International Stuttering Awareness Day

International Stammering/Stuttering Awareness Day is observed annually on October 22.
It's a day to shed light on the challenges faced by people who stammer and to encourage a more inclusive and empathetic society. International Stammering/Stuttering Awareness Day aims to destigmatise stammering, provide resources for those affected, and promote speech therapy and communication skills development.
As crore people across the world are affected by stuttering, the International Stuttering Association (ISA) decided to highlight the issue through an International Stuttering Awareness Day. In 1995, during a conference held at Linköping, Sweden, the ISA formulated a wish list which advocated the need for an International Stuttering Awareness Day.
Then, in 1997, at the International Fluency Association (IFA) conference, Michael Sugarman, the co-founder of the National Stuttering project, raised the call for an international day for stuttering awareness. Sugarman's wish was granted in 1998 when the European League of Stuttering Associations, International Fluency Association and ISA declared October 22 as Stuttering Awareness Day.
The 2023 theme for International Stuttering Awareness Day 2023 is 'One Size Does NOT Fit All'.

Police Commemoration Day

National Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 every year. It is observed to salute the spirits of police forces and their families and brave police martyred who lost their lives fighting for the country. It is celebrated to motivate and pay respect to the police personnel who perform their duties with the utmost diligence.
On October 21, 1959, when twenty Indian soldiers were attacked by Chinese troops in Ladakh due to arguments between the troops, ten Indian policemen lost their lives and seven were imprisoned.
After a month, on November 28, 1959, Chinese troops handed over the dead bodies of the martyred policemen and, since that day, October 21 has been observed as Police Commemoration Day in honour of the martyrs every year.

National Solidarity Day

India commemorates National Solidarity Day on October 20 to honour the soldiers who fought during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. This significant day marks the national integrity displayed by India in its conflict with China.
The Sino-Indian War, also known as the China–India War, occurred from October to November 1962. On October 20, 1962, China launched a devastating attack, resulting in India's defeat and territorial losses, notably Aksai Chin. In 1966, a committee elected by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi established October 20 as National Solidarity Day to honour soldiers and their families who sacrificed in conflicts.

World Statistics Day

World Statistics Day is celebrated is celebrated every five years on the 20th of October. The day is dedicated to create awareness about the significant role of advanced, reliable, and good quality statistics in the development of global nations. The United Nations General Assembly established World Statistics Day on October 20, 2015. The main of observing this day is to highlight the huge achievements of national statistical systems, and to foster the importance of statistics in various aspects of society.
At its 41st Session in February 2010, the United Nations Statistical Commission proposed celebrating 20 October 2010 as World Statistics Day (Decision 41/109).
Acknowledging that the production of reliable, timely statistics and indicators of countries' progress is indispensable for informed policy decisions and monitoring implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, the General Assembly adopted on June 3, 2010 resolution 64/267, which officially designated October 20, 2010 as the first ever World Statistics Day.
In 2015, with resolution 96/282, the General Assembly decided to designate October 20, 2015 as the second World Statistics Day, stated un.org.

World Osteoporosis Day

World Osteoporosis Day is a global healthcare event observed every year on October 20, followed by various awareness campaigns and activities to promote the early diagnosis of osteoporosis, its treatment and preventive tips for strong bones. The campaigns are mainly focused on encouraging people to take preventative measures for their bone health to avoid any risk of osteoporosis and associated complications in the future.
This year (2023) the World Osteoporosis Day theme is 'Build Better Bones', intending the significance of leading a bone-healthy lifestyle as the foundation for strong bones and fracture-free future.
World Osteoporosis Day was launched on October 20, 1996, by the United Kingdom's National Osteoporosis Society with the collaboration of the European Commission. Since 1997, this awareness day has been organised by the International Osteoporosis Foundation.
