Gaitri Kumar Appointed India's next High Commissioner to the UK

Seasoned diplomat Gaitri I Kumar has been appointed as India''s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Kumar, a 1986-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, succeeds Ruchi Ghanashyam.
At present, Kumar is serving as Indian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union.
In her career spanning over 30 years, Kumar served in multiple Indian missions including in Paris, Kathmandu, Lisbon and Geneva.

American Sprinter Bobby Morrow Passed Away at 84

American Sprinter, the San Benito Buller, Bobby Morrow, one of the four men (Jesse Owens(1936), Carl Lewis(1984), Usain Bolt(2012 & 2016)) to win three events at a single game (100m, 200m and 4x100m relay) died of natural causes at the age of 84 in his home in San Benito, Texas. He was born in October 1935, in Harlingen, Texas.
He won three gold medals for 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in the 1956 Olympic in Melbourne.
He was named Sportsman of the year 1956 by the Sports Illustrated and he set 11 ratified world records during his entire career.

RK Chaturvedi Assumed Charge as Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals

RK Chaturvedi assumed charge as Secretary in the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. Chaturvedi has replaced P. Raghavendra Rao who superannuated on 31 May, 2020.
RK Chaturvedi is a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Prior to this, he served as an Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Culture.
He has worked as Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and as DG in the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA).

Pradip Kumar Tripathi takes charge as Steel Secretary

Senior IAS officer Pradip Kumar Tripathi took over the charge as Secretary in the Ministry of Steel.
He is an IAS officer of 1987 batch of Jammu and Kashmir (JK) cadre.
Mr. Tripathi succeeds Binoy Kumar, who superannuated on May 31, 2020.

Music Director-Singer Wajid Khan Passes Away

Wajid Khan of Bollywood music composer duo Sajid-Wajid, credited with albums like Dabangg and Wanted, passed away in Mumbai due to complications arising from a renal ailment and COVID-19. He was 42.
Sajid-Wajid made their Bollywood debut with Salman Khan starrer Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya in 1998, and later went on to score many albums for the superstar's films, including Chori Chori, Hello Brother, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Partner, Wanted and Dabangg (1, 2 and 3). Most recently, Sajid-Wajid composed Salman's "Bhai Bhai" single.

Rohit Sharma 1st Ever Brand Ambassador of IIFL Finance

Rohit Sharma became the first brand ambassador of the IIFL Finance.
IIFL Finance is one of the leading non-banking finance companies of India which manages over Rs. 36,000 crore assets.
Rohit managed the first campaign by IIFL Finance, IMG Reliance promoting and advertising the people on Safety guidelines and rules that must be followed in the COVID-19 situation.

PR Jaishankar becomes Managing Director of IIFCL

The appointments committee of the cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of PR Jaishankar as the Managing Director of India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd (IIFCL).
He will serve as the MD of IIFCL for a period of 3 years. He has earlier served as the executive director of the National Housing Bank.

Arun Singhal Appointed as CEO FSSAI

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Arun Singhal as chief executive officer of India's apex food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Singhal is special secretary, department of health and family welfare. He will succeed GSG Ayyangar who was briefly appointed as the CEO of the food regulator.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating statute related to food safety and regulation in India.

SN Rajeswari Becomes New CMD of Oriental Insurance Company

New India Assurance, General Manager, SN Rajeswari, has been selected as the Chairman and MD of the Oriental Insurance Company (OIC) by Banks Board Bureau (BBB).
Rajeswari is a qualified charted accountant and currently the second senior-most GM of the public sector general insurance industry and would be retiring in May 2022. She had started her career as an insurer with the Chennai base United India Insurance (UII) and was later shifted to NIA as a deputy general manager (DGM).
She will replace AV Girija Kumar.

Veteran Lyricist Yogesh Gaur Passed Away

Veteran lyricist Yogesh Gaur, known as Yogesh in the film industry, passed away. He was 77.
Yogesh wrote the lyrics of hit songs "Kahin duur jab din dhal jaye" and "Zindagi kaisi hai paheli" that defined the superhit film Anand (1971).
He worked with many prominent names including Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Basu Chatterjee.

PFC Board Clears R S Dhillon''s Appointment as CMD

State-run Power Finance Corporation (PFC) announced the appointment of Ravinder Singh Dhillon as Chairman and Managing Director from June 1, 2020 following superannuation of Rajeev Sharma.
He would hold the post till the date of his superannuation (May 31, 2023) or until further orders.
Dhillon is presently serving as Director (Projects) in the PFC and has more than 35 years of experience in various areas of the power sector.
An Electrical Engineer with post-graduation in Power Systems from IIT Delhi, he had worked with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and Central Electricity Authority prior to joining the PFC.

Capgemini COO Thierry Delaporte Becomes New Wipro CEO and MD

IT services major Wipro has appointed Capgemini Group veteran Thierry Delaporte as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, effective July 6, 2020.
In January 2020, the company had said its CEO and Managing Director Abidali Z Neemuchwala had decided to step down from the company.
Abidali Neemuchwala will relinquish his position as CEO and MD on June 1, 2020.
Rishad Premji will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company until July 5, 2020.

UK PM Appoints Indian-origin Academic as Natural History Museum Trustee

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Indian-origin academic Yadvinder Malhi as a new Trustee of the Natural History Museum in London.
The 52-year-old expert will take on the unpaid advisory role for a period of four years until May 2024.
Malhi is a professor of Ecosystem Science at the University of Oxford, Jackson Senior Research Fellow in Biodiversity and Conservation at Oriel College, Oxford, and the director of the Oxford Centre for Tropical Forests and the Oxford University Biodiversity Network.

Ajit Jogi, First Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Dies at 74

Ajit Jogi, who served as the first chief minister of Chhattisgarh after the formation of the state, died at 74.
Ajit Pramod Kumar Jogi was an Indian politician, who served as the first chief minister of the state of Chhattisgarh, India.
He was a member of the Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (INC) political party.
The Janta Congress Chhattisgarh political party was founded by Jogi, after he and his son Amit were expelled from the Indian National Congress due to anti-party activities as well as sabotaging an Antagarh by polls elections. Amit was expelled for six years.
