Indian Navy Commissions New Deep-Water Survey Vessel

  • The Indian Navy received its latest large Survey Vessel for deep water hydrographic mapping specially designed, Nirdeshak (Yard 3026), second of four Survey Vessel (Large) ships, steered by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata was delivered to the Indian Navy.
  • The first ship of the class, INS Sandhayak, was commissioned in Feb 2024.
  • The contract for four Survey Vessels (SVL) was signed in October 2018.

DRDO Chief Inaugurates Advanced Land-Based Submarine Battery Test Facility in Visakhapatnam

  • Based Submarine Battery Test Facility at NSTL, Visakhapatnam. Event was attended by DG (N&SM), Director NSTL and other senior scientists of NSTL.
  • This facility will cater to test submarine battery based on lithium Ion technology developed by NSTL The Transfer-of-Technology holder HBL Power Systems, Hyderabad.

Training Deployment: Indian Navy Ships Land in Muscat

  • The Indian Naval Ships Tir and Shardul, along with the Indian Coast Guard Ship Veera, from the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, were in Muscat, Oman, as part of their long-range training deployment. This visit underscored the Indian Navy's commitment to enhancing maritime cooperation and strengthening ties with regional partners.
  • The visit from October 5 -9, the Indian Navy engaged with the Royal Navy of Oman on various aspects of maritime security and interoperability, including harbour interactions and joint exercises.
  • The deployment also focused on training exchanges, professional interactions and friendly sports fixtures between the two Navies.
  • This was the third visit of 1TS to Muscat, Oman in the last decade.
  • These interactions play a key role in consolidating gains in naval cooperation and keeping the existing partnerships between both the Navies.

Visakhapatnam Hosts Malabar 2024 Naval Drill

  • Malabar exercise kicked off in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It will be hosted by India. This year's (2024) exercise will see the participation of Australia, Japan, and the United States of America beginning with the Harbour Phase in Visakhapatnam, followed by the sea phase. The exercise is being conducted from October 8 to 18, 2024.
  • Malabar 2024 is designed to enhance cooperation and operational capabilities among participating navies. 
  • The key areas of focus include: Special operations, Surface warfare, Air warfare and Anti-submarine warfare.
  • These activities will be carried out through a Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE).
  • Malabar Exercise started in 1992 as a bilateral naval exercise between India and the US navy. It was expanded into a trilateral format with the inclusion of Japan in 2015.
  • In 2020, the Australian Navy joined the Malabar Exercise, making it a quadrilateral naval exercise.

Ahmedabad Police Unveils AI-Enhanced Command and Control Centre

  • To enhance citizen safety, Ahmedabad Police is establishing a state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre equipped with advanced technologies, marking a significant upgrade in public security measures. This initiative reflects a growing trend in urban policing that integrates modern technology for improved operational efficiency and crime control.
  • The centre will feature three monitors for each officer, allowing simultaneous surveillance of three locations. This setup aims to bolster operational efficiency, particularly in monitoring criminal activities through CCTV.
  • A notable aspect of this facility is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The AI system will enable the police to track social media for potential threats and identify suspects swiftly. It will assist in monitoring suspicious activities in real-time, thus improving crime prevention efforts.

DRDO Successfully Tests VSHORADS 4th Gen Missile

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out three flight-tests of the advanced fourth-generation Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The tests mark a significant step in enhancing India's defense capabilities, showcasing the missile's precision and reliability in engaging fast-moving aerial targets.
  • The missile system was tested against high-speed aerial targets, showcasing its ability to intercept at, Maximum range and Maximum altitude.
  • These critical parameters demonstrated the system's capability for engaging fast-moving threats.

Rajnath Singh Inaugurates DefConnect 4.0 Event in Delhi

  • Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated DefConnect 4.0 at an event in Delhi as a significant step towards advancing indigenous innovation and celebrating the growing defence ecosystem of the country.
  • Organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence - Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO), under the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment, the event brought together armed forces, defence PSUs, innovators and policymakers to discuss ways to advance indigenous innovation.
  • The event featured an exciting Technology Showcase, presenting iDEX innovators with a unique opportunity to exhibit their cutting-edge technologies, advanced capabilities and ground-breaking products.
