Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three frontline naval combatants, INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer, to the nation on their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
PM Modi said that the commission of the three frontline naval combatants will strengthen India's efforts to achieve "self-reliance" and "being a global leader in defence".
As per reports, INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, was constructed in collaboration with the Naval Group of France.
Also known as the 'hunter-killer' submarine, INS Vaghsheer is equipped with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles, and is capable of both anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare apart from intelligence gathering and mine-laying capabilities.
INS Surat, a guided missile destroyer, is one of the largest and most sophisticated destroyers in the world with an indigenous content of 75 per cent.
Similarly, INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, has been designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and incorporates advanced features for enhanced survivability, seakeeping, and stealth, reflecting the next generation of indigenous frigates.

CRPF Launches Online Platform to Adopt Retired K9s for Second Life
The CRPF launched a first-ever online service that allows common people to adopt retired sniffer and assault dogs from the country's largest paramilitary force to give these four-legged soldiers a comfortable second life.
This is probably the first time that any security force has decided to offer their trained dogs for public adoption, as this move was always fraught with the dangers of misuse of these highly-skilled and motivated dogs by anti-national elements.
Till now, the central forces and state police were handing over their retired dogs to registered NGOs or reputed organisations for their care.
More than 30 canines from four breeds — Belgian Shepherd Malinois, German Shepherd, Labrador and the indigenous Mudhol Hound — can now be adopted through a rigorous process that will be monitored by the CRPF's specialised Dog Breeding and Training School (DBTS) near Bengaluru.

Defence Agency's Multi-layer Clothing System 'HimKavach' Clears User Trials
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed the 'HimKavach' clothing system to protect soldiers operating in extreme cold conditions. The system, designed to function in temperatures ranging from 20°C to -60°C, has passed all user trials in operational settings.
The HimKavach system is made up of multiple layers, each tailored for insulation, breathability, and comfort. The modular design allows soldiers to add or remove layers depending on the weather. This feature is seen as critical for troops operating in the Himalayas, where temperatures can drop sharply.
Before HimKavach, the Indian Army used the Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS), a three-layered outfit developed by DRDO's Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences. The ECWCS provided insulation and waterproofing and included a reversible outer layer for camouflage in snowy and non-snowy terrain.
