UP Govt Approves New Aerospace and Defence Policy

The Uttar Pradesh government approved a new Aerospace and Defence Unit policy to attract Rs. 50,000 crore of investments and generate jobs for 1 lakh people. The state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Prayagraj also approved an FDI policy among 10 key proposals aimed at accelerating the state's development.
Among these, the groundbreaking Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy 2024 was introduced to position UP as a leader in the sector.
The Uttar Pradesh Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy 2024 aims to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading aerospace and defence hub, accelerating indigenous capabilities, fostering innovation, and promoting global collaboration to enhance national security and economic prosperity.

Senior IPS Officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal Appointed as BSF ADG

Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, was appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF). This appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Aggarwal will serve in this capacity for four years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Prior to this appointment, Aggarwal was serving as the Special Director General of Police, Armed Police, in Tamil Nadu.
Previously he has held significant positions, including Commissioner of Police in Chennai and Madurai.

Indian Army's Daredevils Set New World Record for Highest Human Pyramid on Motorcycles

The Indian Army's Motorcycle Rider Display Team, known as the "Daredevils," set a new world record by creating the highest human pyramid on moving motorcycles.
The formation, standing 20.4 feet tall and comprising 40 men on 7 motorcycles, travelled a distance of 2 kilometres along Kartavya Path, from Vijay Chowk to India Gate in New Delhi.
The Daredevils, part of the Corps of Signals, have earned international recognition for their daring performances and now hold 33 world records, including entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, Asia Book of Records, and Limca Book of Records.
Since their formation in 1935, the Daredevils have performed over 1,600 motorcycle displays across India, mesmerizing audiences at major events like Republic Day and Army Day parades.

India Tests 'Bhargavastra' Micro-Missile for Countering Drone Swarms

India successfully tested its first indigenous micro-missile system, 'Bhargavastra,' designed to counter swarm drone threats. This development marks a significant milestone in enhancing the nation's defense capabilities against emerging aerial threats.
Key Features:
Detection and Neutralisation: Capable of detecting small aerial vehicles at distances exceeding 6 km and neutralizing them using guided micro munitions.
Simultaneous Launch Capability: Designed to launch over 64 micro missiles simultaneously, enabling effective countermeasures against swarm formations.
Mobile Platform: Mounted on a mobile platform for rapid deployment across diverse terrains, including high-altitude regions.
The successful testing of Bhargavastra underscores India's commitment to strengthening its defense infrastructure and technological capabilities.

L&T Joins Forces with IIT Kanpur

This partnership is focused on the development of a Flight Laboratory dedicated to the advancement of Fixed Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the creation of sophisticated Flight Control Computers (FCC).
L&T, known for its expertise in defence systems integration and manufacturing, is leveraging IIT Kanpur's renowned aerospace engineering capabilities. The flight laboratory at IIT Kanpur, already a hub for cutting-edge research in aviation technology, will now see an infusion of L&T's industry know-how to further these initiatives.

Indian Navy Joins 9-nation Exercise

The Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai joined a nine-nation maritime exercise being conducted near the busiest shipping routes – the Malacca, Sunda and Lombok straits.
Among those at the exercise are the Navies of the US, the UK, Canada, France, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
The exercise named La Perouse, is being held from January 16, to 24, 2025.
Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai is participating in the exercise that aims to develop common maritime situational awareness by enhancing the cooperation in the field of maritime surveillance, maritime interdiction operations and air operations along with the conduct of progressive training and information sharing.

IPS G P Singh New Director General of CRPF

The Centre appointed senior IPS officer G. P. Singh as the Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre was appointed days after the Ministry of Home Affairs proposed his name.
Singh has a reputation for being a tough cop. He also worked with the SPG. Since 2013, he was on central deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) where he served as Inspector General.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) Signs a Contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL)

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy at a cost of approximately Rs. 2,960 crore.
The agreement was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
The MRSAM system, a high-response, quick-reaction, vertically launched supersonic missile, is designed to neutralise enemy aerial threats, including missiles, aircraft, guided bombs, and helicopters.
It is already in use by the Army, Navy, and Air Force in various configurations. The system has a range of up to 70 km.
The missiles will be supplied under the 'Buy (Indian)' category, with significant indigenous content.
