Govt. Allows Single-Point Command for Army, Navy, Air Force via Chief of Defence Staff & DMA Secr...

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh authorised the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs (DMA), to issue Joint Instructions and Joint Orders applicable to the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in a step aimed at modernising the functioning of the Indian Armed Forces.
  • The announcement marks a departure from the earlier system where each Service issued separate instructions on matters involving two or more Services.
  • The first Joint Order titled 'Approval, Promulgation and Numbering of Joint Instructions and Joint Orders' was issued the same day.

DRDO Offers 28 Indigenous Weapons for Emergency Procurement by Armed Forces

  • In line with the government's self-reliance push, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) offered 28 existing weapon systems that it designed and developed, for emergency procurement by the armed forces.
  • Under emergency procurement, all three forces, the Army, Navy and the Air Force, are allowed to add new and replenish existing weapon systems as per their requirement.
  • There is a long list of weapons like rockets, missiles, grenades, anti-drone missiles, and many more that the DRDO is offering to defence forces.
  • The development came at a time the government has already approved emergency arms procurement powers for forces.

India Largest Unmanned Submarine

  • Krishna Defence and Allied Industries Ltd (KDAIL) marked a historic milestone with a ceremonial plate-cutting event at its Halol facility in Gujarat, signalling the start of construction for India's largest and most advanced Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), the Jalkapi Extra-Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (XLUUV). This ambitious project, spearheaded by the Indian Navy, represents a significant leap toward self-reliance in cutting-edge defence technology.
  • The Jalkapi, designed by the Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design — Submarine Design Group (DND-SDG), is a collaborative effort involving KDAIL, Rekise Marine, and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The project underscores India's growing expertise in autonomous underwater systems and its commitment to bolstering maritime defence capabilities.

IdeaForge Bags Drone Order from Indian Army

  • Drone technology firm ideaForge Technology secured an order worth about Rs. 137 crore for hybrid mini unmanned aerial vehicles systems from the Indian Army through the emergency procurement route.
  • According to ideaForge, a key requirement during the assessment for the selection of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) was that all critical sub-components must be sourced from non-border-sharing nations, and that the platform be substantially indigenous in capability and design.

  • In a move to bridge academic research with defence innovation, IIT Kanpur and Western Command of Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen collaboration in research, development and indigenisation. The MoU was signed at IIT Kanpur campus.
  • The agreement was signed by Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director IIT Kanpur and Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Western Command.

Indian Army Establishes Drone Training Facility at Madras Regimental Centre

  • The Indian Army's Dakshin Bharat Area (DBA) established a drone training facility at the Madras Regimental Centre (MRC) in Wellington, Ooty, Tamil Nadu. The core purpose of this newly established facility is to train personnel on the basic operation of drones and help them understand the technical details and hardware of the drones and enable troops to identify technical faults in the drones and troubleshoot them themselves.

Indian Army Participates in Exercise Shakti in France
