Nuclear Submarine INS Arihant Test Fires Ballistic Missile

India successfully test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) from INS Arihant.
The missile was tested to a predetermined range and impacted the target area in the Bay of Bengal with very high accuracy.
All operational and technological parameters of the weapon system were validated.
The successful user training launch of the SLBM by INS Arihant is significant to prove crew competency and validate the SSBN programme, a key element of India's nuclear deterrence capability.
INS Arihant (SSBN 80) is a designated S2 Strategic Strike Nuclear Submarine. It is the lead ship of India's Arihant Class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines.

Eastern Naval Command Conducts Offshore Security Exercise - 'Prasthan'

A two-day offshore security exercise, 'Prasthan' with the aim to integrate the efforts of all maritime stakeholders involved in offshore defence was conducted in the Krishna Godavari Basin Offshore Development Area. This exercise was under the aegis of Eastern Naval Command.
The exercise resulted in refining the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and response actions to several contingencies in the Offshore Defence Area, off Kakinada.
This exercise is conducted every six months and is an important element of ensuring offshore security as per the Defence Ministry statement.
Led by the Navy, the exercise saw participation from the various oil operators, like ONGC, RIL, Vedanta and other stakeholders in the domain of maritime security including AP Marine Police, AP fisheries department and the Coast Guard.

NATO to Hold Steadfast Noon Nuclear Drills Despite Russian Threats

NATO will proceed with its annual nuclear exercises next week, despite tensions with Russia over the war in Ukraine and comments from Kremlin leaders that they will use all available means to defend Russian territory, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said during a meeting of alliance Defense Ministers in Brussels. The exercise will last for one week.
More than a dozen NATO members will participate in the Steadfast Noon exercise, which will involve aircraft capable of carrying nuclear warheads but without the use of any live bombs.
"Now is the right time to be firm and to be clear that NATO is there to protect and defend all allies," Mr. Stoltenberg said. "This is a long time, planned exercise, actually planned before the invasion of Ukraine. It's a routine exercise, and it's an exercise to ensure that our nuclear deterrent remains safe, secure, and effective."
Mr. Stoltenberg said that NATO was open and honest about the Steadfast Noon exercises in the past and that cancelling the drill in response to Russian nuclear provocations would set a bad precedent.

Naval Drill with SA, Brazil Concludes

The Indian Navy concluded a multi-national maritime exercise with Brazilian and South African Navies. Naval warship INS Tarkash was at Port Elizabeth, South Africa, for the seventh edition of exercise 'IBSAMAR'. The exercise was aimed at strengthening security, joint operational training and sharing of best practices.
This multinational maritime exercise among the navies of the three countries which are also part of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) was held from Oct 10- 12, 2022.
According to the Indian Navy, during the harbour phase of IBSAMAR VII there were professional exchanges like fire-fighting and damage control drills, and also interaction among Special Forces and VBSS/cross boarding lectures.

Pakistan to Take Part in the SCO Anti-Terror Exercise Hosted by India

Pakistan was invited to the closing ceremony, on October 13, of the ongoing Joint Anti-Terror Exercise (JATE) 'Manesar Anti-Terror 2022' under the ambit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) hosted by India.
The National Security Guard (NSG) hosted the multinational JATE "Manesar Anti-Terror 2022" under the framework of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), at the NSG Manesar Garrison.
An Indian delegation had participated in the closing ceremony of the two-week-long JATE-2021 hosted by Pakistan at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Pabbi, in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, in September 2021.
The exercise was aimed at exchanging expertise and best practices, and build synergy between the Counter Terrorism Forces of the SCO RATS member countries to enhance capabilities for conducting anti-terrorist operations and countering other security threats collectively.
