US and South Korea Begin Vigilant Storm Air Exercises

The US and South Korean military began five days of air exercises.
Styled "Vigilant Storm", more than 240 aircraft flying approximately 1,600 sorties will participate in the drills, including American F-35B stealth fighter jets. Vigilant Storm comes a mere days after South Korea concluded its annual Hoguk field training exercises. North Korea also fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan.
While Pyongyang claims its missile tests are defensive in nature, the drills are more an attempt to test its weapons systems and intimidate Washington and Seoul to improve its negotiating power. The uptick in missile tests noted since late September may also indicate that North Korea is preparing to conduct another nuclear test, which it has not done since 2017.

Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh Takes over Reins of Army's Southern Command

Lieutenant General Ajai Kumar Singh took over as General Office Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command of the Indian Army. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Singh was commissioned into 7/11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1984.
He has vast operational experience in all types of terrain be it counter-insurgency areas, high altitudes & icy glaciated regions of Siachen or the desert sector.

Punjab Police's Anti-gangster Task Force Awarded Union Home Minister Medal

The 16-member team of Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of the Punjab Police was awarded the Union Home Minister's Special Operation Medal for 2022.
The awardees include AGTF chief Additional Director General of Police Promod Ban and his team members -- Deputy Inspector General Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Assistant IG Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, AIG Sandeep Goel, Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar and other cops of sub inspector and assistant sub inspector ranks.
The AGTF headed by Ban was constituted on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to stamp out gangsters and anti-social elements from the state using intelligence-based inputs and coordinating with field units of Punjab Police.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Virtually Launches Two Helipads in Ladakh, Unveils Rs. 2,180 crore...

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday dedicated to the nation 75 infrastructure projects including bridges, roads and helipads built at a cost of Rs. 2,180 crore in strategically key areas of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim among others.
He inaugurated the projects at a function held at the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi (DS-DBO) road that provides connectivity to India's northernmost outpost of Daulat Beg Oldi in eastern Ladakh.
The highlight of the event was the onsite inauguration of 120-metre-long 'class-70 Shyok Setu' on the DS-DBO Road at an altitude 14,000 feet.
The bridge will be of strategic importance as it will facilitate logistics movement of the armed forces.
Other projects inaugurated virtually by Singh included two helipads, one each in Hanle and Thakung, in Eastern Ladakh.

Indian Navy Hosted Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise Simbex 2022

Indian Navy is hosting 29th edition of Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) from 26^th to 30^th October, 2022 at Visakhapatnam
It is being conducted in two phases: Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam from 26 to 27 October, 2022 followed by Sea Phase in Bay of Bengal from 28 to 30 October, 2022
SIMBEX exercise began in 1994 and were initially known as Exercise Lion King.
RSS Stalwart and RSS Vigilance (Victory Class Corvette) from Singapore will join the exercise.

Indian Navy Participates in Maiden Trilateral Exercise with Mozambique and Tanzania

The Defence Ministry has informed that the first edition of the India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise commenced at Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on 27^th October, 2022.
The Indian Navy has participated in the Maiden Trilateral Exercise with Mozambique and Tanzania.
Indian Navy is represented by the guided missile frigate, INS Tarkash, a Chetak Helicopter, and MARCOS.
The exercise has three main objectives including capability development to address common threats through training and sharing of best practices, Enhancing interoperability, and strengthening maritime cooperation.
The exercise has been held till 29^th October, 2022 which also includes the Harbour and sea phases.
In the harbor phase, various capacity-building activities are involved which include visit, board, search, and seizure.
Small arms training, joint diving operations, damage control and fire fighting exercises, and cross-deck visits are scheduled in the capacity building activities.

India, US to Conduct 'Yudh Abhyas' near China Border

Indian and the US militaries will conduct the battalion-level "Yudh Abhyas" exercise between November 15 and December 2 at Auli in Uttarakhand, just 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Before this, between November 8 and 18, the member countries of the "Quad" will conduct the Malabar Exercise off Yokosuka in Japan. The 'Quad' includes the US, Japan, Australia and India.

Tata and Airbus to Make C-295MW Transport Aircraft for IAF in Vadodara

Moving to achieve a milestone in the highly competitive aviation industry and boosting its Make-in-India defence programme, the government announced that a transport aircraft manufacturing facility for the Indian Air Force will come up in Vadodara.
To start with, 40 of the 56 C-295MW transport aircraft being procured from Airbus Defence and Space SA, Spain, will be manufactured at the new facility in Vadodara.
In September 2021, after the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the procurement of 56 C-295MW transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space SA, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract for acquisition of the aircraft with associated equipment.
Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar said that as part of the contract, 16 aircraft will be delivered in flyaway condition and 40 will be manufactured in India by the Indian aircraft contractor, Tata consortium of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led by TASL.
