Vice-Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh is New Vice-Chief of Navy

Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh took charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff.
Vice Admiral Sanjay Jasjit Singh graduated from the National Defence Academy, Pune, and was commissioned in 1986 in the executive branch of the Indian Navy.
In his career spanning 37 years, he has served on most class of ships of the Indian Navy and has held a range of command, training and staff appointments, including Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (CSNCO), flag officer sea training, flag officer Commanding Western Fleet, Commandant Naval War College, and Controller Personnel Services. Prior to taking over as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff, he was Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Operations).
He holds MSc and MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University, MA in Defence Studies from Kings College, London, and MA (History), MPhil (Pol) and PhD (Arts) from Mumbai University. In recognition of his distinguished service, the flag officer was awarded the Nao Sena Medal in 2009, and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020.

Vice Adm Atul Anand Takes over as Director General Naval Operations

Vice Admiral Atul Anand, AVSM, VSM assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO).
Vice Admiral Atul Anand was commissioned on January 1, 1988 into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy.
A recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal, he has held several key appointments in his naval career including the command of torpedo recovery vessel IN TRV A72, missile boat INS Chatak, corvette INS Khukri and the destroyer INS Mumbai. He also served as the Navigating Officer of IN ships Sharda, Ranvijay and Jyoti, and was the Direction Officer of the Sea Harrier squadron INAS 300 and the Executive Officer of the destroyer INS Delhi.

10th Edition of Indian - Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise SLINEX-2023

The 10th Edition of the annual Indian – Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime exercise SLINEX-2023 is scheduled started at Colombo on the 3rd of April. The exercise is being conducted in two phases of three days each, the Harbour Phase followed by Sea Phase. The Indian Navy will be represented by INS Kiltan and INS Savitri while Sri Lanka Navy will have SLNS Vijayabahu and SLNS Samudura. In addition, the Indian Navy Chetak helicopter and Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft along with Sri Lanka Air Force Dornier and BEL 412 helicopters would also participate in the exercise. The exercise will also have the Special Forces of the two navies participate together.
SLINEX-2023 aims to enhance inter-operability, improve mutual understanding and exchange best practices and procedures in multi-faceted Maritime operations between both Navies. The Harbour Phase would include sports fixtures, yoga sessions and cultural events which would provide an opportunity for personnel from both navies to learn from each other, and re-enforce shared values as well as build bonds of friendship and camaraderie.

ICG Conducts Regional Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise in Andhra Pradesh

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) displayed its operational and rescue capabilities on water and air by deploying seven ships, helicopters, and Unmanned Rescue Boats on the last day of the two-day Regional Search and Rescue Exercise, titled Re-SAREX-23.
The ships, ICGS Samudra Paheredar, ICGS Vigraha, Kanaka Latha Barua, Priyadarshini, C-430, 438 and 449, demonstrated their capabilities by participating in a mass rescue operation.
The exercise was held five nautical miles away from the Kakinada coast, Andhra Pradesh.
The Kakinada coast was chosen for the regional exercise as it falls in the Krishna-Godavari basin, in which oil explorations are extensively in progress. The exercise assured that ICG can respond and save lives in any rescue and search operation.

MoD Signs Three Contracts, Including Satellite for Army

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed three contracts worth Rs. 5,400 crore — two with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) worth Rs. 2,400 crore for procurement of Automated Air Defence Control and Reporting System 'Project Akashteer' for the Army and Sarang Electronic Support Measure (ESM) systems for the Navy. Another Rs. 2,963 crore contract with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Space, for an advanced communication satellite, GSAT 7B, for the Army.
Unlike the Indian Air Force and the Navy, the Army currently does not have a dedicated satellite.

First Batch of Agniveers Graduate

The first batch of 2,585 Agniveers graduated after completion of four months training. The Passing out Paraded was held at INS Chilka in Odisha.
Naval chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar took the salute from the new recruits in the Passing out Parade, which was held post-sunset, a first of its kind in the Indian armed forces. Traditionally, Passing out Parades are held in the morning.
Among those passing out were 272 female Agniveers.
These Agniveers, who underwent training at the Chilika Lake which is Asia's biggest brackish water lake, would be deployed on frontline warships for sea training.

Bharat Dynamics Limited Successfully test-fires ATGM "Amogha-III"

In a significant development, Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited successfully carried out the field firing of its 3rd generation fire and forget man-portable Anti Tank Guided Missile, Amogha-III.
As per reports, all the mission objectives were achieved. Amogha-III has been designed and developed by the in-house R&D Division of BDL. Amogha is the first missile designed and tested by Bharat Dynamics.
Amogha-III has a range of 0.2 to 2.5 km.
