Defence Ministry Inks Contract with BHEL to Procure 16 Super Rapid Gun Mount for Navy

  • The defence ministry sealed a Rs. 2,956 crore deal with state-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to procure 16 upgraded super rapid gun mount (SRGM) and accessories for Indian Navy. The SRGM is a medium caliber anti-missile and anti-aircraft defence weapon system that provides a sustained rate of fire and high accuracy.
  • The upgraded SRGMs will be installed onboard Indian Navy's in-service and newly built ships.
  • The weapon system is capable of multiple engagements in multi-threat scenarios and has a proven record of very good performance against missiles and highly maneuverable fast attack crafts.

Rajnath Singh Unveils Crest of India Guided Missile Destroyer 'INS Imphal'

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the crest of Indian Navy's stealth guided missile destroyer Imphal that is equipped with BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles and anti-submarine indigenous rocket launchers.
  • The ship was delivered to the Indian Navy in October by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
  • The crest unveiling ceremony in Delhi was graced by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar.
  • INS Imphal is the third of the four Project 15B stealth guided missile destroyers.
  • The crest design depicts the 'Kangla Palace' on the left and 'Kangla-Sa' on the right.
  • The Kangla Palace is an important historical and archaeological site of Manipur, and was the traditional seat of the past kingdom.
  • With a dragon's head and lion's body, the 'Kangla-Sa' is a mythical character from Manipur's history, and symbolises as the protector of its people.

National Cadet Corps Celebrates 75th Anniversary Day

  • The National Cadet Corps (NCC), the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, celebrated its 75th anniversary on November 27, 2023. Operating from its headquarters in New Delhi, India, the NCC opens its doors voluntarily to school and college students, functioning as a Tri-Services Organisation encompassing the Army, Navy, and Air Force. As a significant milestone approaches, it's crucial to delve into the founding principles, objectives, and the impactful role the NCC plays in shaping the future leaders of India.
  • NCC Day is observed annually to commemorate the core values encapsulated in the NCC motto, "Unity and Discipline." These principles, emphasising duty, loyalty, dedication, and self-sacrifice, reflect the ethos of the organisation. Beyond instilling discipline, the NCC serves as a platform for international engagement. Over four decades, NCC cadets have been ambassadors of peace and unity, participating in Youth Exchange Programmes with over 25 nations.

UN Peacekeepers from 16 Countries Undergo Military Training in India

  • The Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping-India conducted a course for military officers of 16 friendly foreign countries and the Indian Army to enhance leadership skills, tactical thinking and operational effectiveness.
  • The United Nations Pre-Deployment Course (Training of Trainers) was conducted under the aegis of the Indian Army from November 6-24.
  • The course, themed on the UN framework and designed as an empowering and collaborative training programme, was organised jointly in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • The event underscored India's commitment to fostering greater international cooperation in UN Peacekeeping Operations.

Dev Anand Become s First Hindu Pilot Officer in Pakistan Air Force

  • Dev Anand, a resident of Tando Bago of Sindh's Badin district created history as he became first Hindu Pilot Officer in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
  • Dev Anand holds a degree in public administration from China, and his elder brother, Aneel Kumar, is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Pakistan Army.
  • Pilot Officer Anand passed out of the PAF Asghar Khan Academy in Risalpur after getting a commission.

India-Nepal Joint Military Exercise Begins in Uttarakhand

  • The 17th edition of joint military exercise 'Surya Kiran' between India and Nepal started in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  • The annual exercise, which is conducted alternately in the two countries, will conclude on December 7, 2023.
  • The two-week-long exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief under the United Nations Charter on peace keeping operations.
  • The Nepal Army contingent comprises 334 personnel represented by Tara Dal Battalion, while the Indian Army contingent comprising 354 personnel is being led by a battalion from the Kumaon Regiment.
