Sri Lanka Appoints Tom Moody as Director of Cricket

Former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody has been appointed as the director of cricket of Sri Lanka.
Moody was appointed to the post on the recommendations by the Technical Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket after the recent poor showings against South Africa and England.
Moody has been handed a three-year contract and as per the agreement, the 55-year-old is expected to carry out 300 days of 'Mandatory Assignment'.
His job profile entails the Analysis of the Future Tour Program, focusing on the Domestic Tournament Structure, Player Welfare, Education and Skill Development, Coaching and Support Staff Structure and High Performance and Data Analytics.
Moody was Sri Lanka's head coach between 2005 and 2007 when the island nation made it to the final of the World Cup in the Caribbean.

ISSF World Cup in Korea Postponed

The ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea, scheduled to be staged from April 16 to 27, has been postponed owing to restrictions imposed to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last week, the Indian contingent pulled out of the tournament because of South Korea's mandatory two-week quarantine rules, which would come in the way of the shooters' training.
The tournament in Korea was a combined World Cup with shooters from rifle, pistol and shotgun competing for top honours.

Vinesh Phogat Wins Gold in Ukraine Wrestling Event

India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat defeated 2017 world champion V. Kaladzinskay to win the gold medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial tournament.
Up against the world number seven Belarusian, it was not an easy bout for the world number three Indian as the two grapplers kept testing each other with consistent attacks in the sea-saw battle in which Vinesh prevailed.
Vinesh opened up a 4-0 lead in the 53 kg final with a throw which she initiated with a left-leg attack but Kaladzinskay made it 4-4 with her brilliant move.
Vinesh took the break leading 6-4, adding to her score with a takedown, 10 seconds before the break.

Hima Das wins 200m Gold in Her First Race after More than a Year

- Star Indian sprinter Hima Das ran her first competitive race in more than a year and won a gold in the women's 200 m in the Indian Grand Prix II at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports campus in Patiala. The 21-year-old Hima, the 2018 world junior champion in 400 m, won the race in 23.31 seconds.
- Hima, who is yet to qualify for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, had run her last competitive race in August 2019.
- Sprinter Dutee Chand blazed the track to win the women's 100 m in 11.44 seconds, an improvement on the 11.51 seconds she had clocked last week in the first GP. She is hoping to qualify for the Olympic Games by meeting the 11.15 seconds standard.

Kohli Becomes the most Successful Captain at Home

Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the country's most successful captain at home after the hosts thrashed England by 10 wickets in the third Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad inside two days. India's latest Test win means Kohli now has 22 wins in 29 Tests at home – one better than MS Dhoni who had 21 wins from 30 Tests at home.
Kohli already is India's most successful Test captain with 35 wins under his belt. Sourav Ganguly and Mohammed Azharuddin have 21 and 14 victories to their credit as captains of the Indian cricket team.

Jyoti Gulia Enters Quarterfinals

Jyoti Gulia (51 kg) upstaged two-time world champion Nazym Kyzaiby of Kazakhstan to enter the quarterfinals along with two others, but three Indians bowed out after second-round losses in the 72nd Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Haryana's Gulia, a 2017 world youth champion, prevailed 3-2 over Kyzaibay, a gold-winner from the 2014 and 2016 World Championships. Bhagyabati Kachari outclassed Russia's Anna Galimova 5-0 to enter the 75 kg quarterfinals.

Ashwin Becomes 4th Highest Wicket-taker for India with 599 Wickets

Seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went past Zaheer Khan's tally of 597 international wickets to climb to the fourth spot on the list of Indian bowlers with the most wickets in international cricket.
Ashwin dismissed Ollie Pope in the 28th over to overtake Zaheer's tally at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Ashwin now has 599 wickets across formats and is only behind former skipper Anil Kumble (953), spinner Harbhajan Singh (707), and Kapil Dev (687). The off-spinner is also on the brink of becoming the fourth Indian bowler to take 400 Test wickets.
Ashwin is just three wickets away from the glorious milestone in the longest format of the game. In the ongoing pink-ball Test, Ashwin along with Axar Patel spun a web as India bundled out England for a paltry 112 in the first innings.

Karnataka to Host Khelo India University Games in 2021

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, B.S. Yeddyurappa, announced that Karnataka will be hosting the second Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in the year 2021.
The Khelo India University Games will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Games will be held in the Jain University and other venues of the state.
Jain University will organise the games in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
KIUG is a national level multi-sport the largest University game in India.
The event observes the participation of athletes from universities across the country who compete with each other in different sport disciplines.
It is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI) in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities, Indian Olympic Association and National Sports Federation.
