Sindhu Appointed BWF's Athletes' Commission Member

India's two-time Olympic medallist shuttler P. V. Sindhu was appointed as a member of the Badminton World Federation's (BWF) Athletes' Commission.
The former world champion was named alongside five others who will serve as members till 2025.
The other five are Iris Wang (USA), Robin Tabeling (NED), Greysia Polii (INA), Kim Soyeong (KOR) and Zheng Si Wei (CHN).

Emma Raducanu is BBC Sports Personality of the Year

US Open champion Emma Raducanu was voted the BBC's sports personality of the year to cap an incredible rise throughout 2021.
Raducanu became the first-ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam singles title with her triumph in New York in September after not dropping a set in the tournament.
She was the first British woman since Virginia Wade in 1977 to win a major tournament, enabling her to beat Olympic gold medalists — diver Tom Daley and swimmer Adam Peaty — to the BBC honour.

Kidambi Srikanth Wins Silver Medal at Badminton World Championships

Shuttler Kidambi Srikanth became the first Indian man to win a silver medal at the BWF World Championships.
Singapore's Loh Kean Yew defeated Kidambi in the summit clash.
This is the first time that a men's player from Singapore won gold at the BWF World Championships.
Srikanth created history by becoming the first Indian shuttler to enter the final in the men's singles category of the BWF World Championships in Huelva, Spain.

India Lose Seat on FIA World Motor Sport Council

India lost its seat on the FIA's all powerful World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) for the first time in more than three decades.
Incumbent Gautam Singhania lost in the elections held for 14 WMSC seats reserved for titular members. The development came on the day when Mohammed Ben Sulayem replaced Jean Todt as the next FIA president.
The WMSC members also include the president, deputy president and seven vice-presidents.

Anurag Thakur Inaugurates Khelo India Women's Hockey League Under 21

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur inaugurated the first-ever national level Khelo India Women's Hockey League (Under 21) at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. Sports Minister was joined by Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nishith Pramanik and the Indian Olympic Association President Narendra Batra and other dignitaries. The league held a cash prize of Rs. 30 lakh for the winners, 15 lakh from MYAS and 15 lakh from Hockey India.
A total of 14 teams competed in the first phase of the tournament. As many as 42 matches were played during the first phase, while the second and third phases will be held early next year.

Avani Lekhara Bags 'Best Female Debut' Honour at Paralympic Awards

Indian shooter Avani Lekhara won the "Best Female Debut" honour at the 2021 Paralympic Awards for her record-breaking gold medal at the Tokyo Games. The 20-year-old from Jaipur, who sustained spinal cord injury in a car accident in 2012, won the gold in the women's 10m Air Rife Standing SH1 event earlier this year. With that special feat, she had broken the Paralympic Games record besides equalling the world record.
She also won a bronze in the 50m Rifle Three Positions Standing SH 1 event, becoming the first Indian female to win two medals in Games' history.
She was also awarded Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, India's highest sporting honour, for the achievement.

Andy Flower is Head Coach of Lucknow IPL Team

Former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower was appointed as the head coach of the yet-to-be-named Lucknow franchise, which will make its debut in the 2022 Indian Premier League.
Flower was working with Punjab Kings as assistant coach for the past two seasons.
The Goenka-led RP-SG Group had shelled out Rs. 7090 crore to own the Lucknow franchise.

Sergio Aguero Announces Retirement from Football

Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero announced his immediate retirement for health reasons.
Aguero is one of the world's most well-known players, having only joined Barcelona in the offseason after ending a 10-year stint at Manchester City during which he became a great of the English game.
For Argentina, Aguero scored 41 times in 97 matches — putting him third on the national team's all-time scoring list — after making his senior team debut in 2006. That came between two world titles for Argentina's youth teams.
Aguero's only major title with Argentina came at this year's edition of the Copa America, in which he barely featured, and he also won the Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2008.
