Anahat Singh Becomes First Indian Girl to Win Jr Squash Open in US

Indian teenager Anahat Singh has scripted history by winning the U-15 girls category of the prestigious Junior US Open Squash tournament in Philadelphia. The 13-year-old girl from Delhi overcame powerhouse Egypt's Jayda Marei in the final match 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5 played at the Arlen Spectre Centre. More than 850 squash junior players, representing 41 countries, participated in the World's largest junior individuals squash tournament.

Harbhajan Singh Announces Retirement from all Forms of Cricket

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh announced retirement from all forms of competitive cricket.
The veteran off-spinner bagged 417 wickets in 103 Test matches, 269 wickets in 236 ODI matches and 25 wickets in 28 T20I matches. Harbhajan played 163 matches in the IPL across 13 seasons for Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders and took 150 wickets at an average of 26.
Harbhajan, who made his India debut during an ODI against New Zealand at Sharjah in 1998, last played for the country in March, 2016 during a T20I against the UAE at Dhaka.

IPL 2022: Brian Lara, Dale Steyn among SRH's new Coaching Staff

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced its new coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.
Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara and fast bowler Dale Steyn will be SRH's batting and pace bowling coach respectively.
Former Sri Lanka bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has also been roped in as the spin bowling coach of SRH while former Indian cricketer Hemang Badani will be handling scouting duties along with being the fielding coach.
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody has returned to his role as head coach of SRH and Simon Katich will be Moody's deputy.

Harjinder Singh Named India's Chef de Mission for Beijing Olympics

Harjinder Singh was appointed as India's Chef De Mission for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Singh led the Indian contingent in the 2018 Winter Olympics as well, which was held in Pyeonchang in South Korea.
The Beijing Games, the 24th edition of the showpiece that started way back in 1924, will be held from February 4 to 20.

South Korea Wins Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

South Korea won the Asian Hockey Champions trophy at Dhaka beating Japan at a shootout in the final.
This is the first time that South Korea became the Asian Hockey champion.
Olympic bronze medallist India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 4-3 in a pulsating third-fourth place play-off match to win the bronze medal at the Asian Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament.
It was India's second win over Pakistan in the tournament after having beaten the same opponents 3-1 in the round-robin stages.

'Neeraj' to be Mascot for the First ever 'Kerala Olympic Games'

A rabbit mascot named Neeraj, in honour of Neeraj Chopra, the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal, will be the symbol for the first ever 'Kerala Olympic Games', slated to be held in February 2022.
State Education Minister V Sivankutty unveiled the mascot.
The meet will be conducted on 24 disciplines which includes athletics, aquatics, archery, basketball, boxing, badminton, cycling, football, wrestling, hockey, judo, karate, kambadi (Kabadi), KHO- KHO, netball, rugby, rifles (shooting), wushu, tennis, table tennis, Taekwondo, volleyball & weight lifting.
Ahead of the Games, district games will be held in all 14 districts and athletes and teams selected from this level will participate in the Kerala Olympics Games.

India among World's Top Three Dope Violators in Latest

An uptick in the number of offenders has taken India into the top-three of the world's biggest doping violators in a WADA report detailing the transgressions for the year 2019 with bodybuilding, weightlifting and athletics contributing majorly to the country's embarrassing record.
In the latest report published by the World Anti-Doping Agency, 152 (17 per cent of the world total) Anti-doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) were reported in India in 2019, leaving it third in the list with the maximum dope offenders coming from bodybuilding (57).
A lightweight in global sport, India is only behind Russia (167) and Italy (157), while Brazil (78) is at fourth and Iran (70) fifth.
