ICC ODI Men's Team of The Year: After T20s, No Indians in this One Too

After going unrepresented in the ICC's men's 'T20 Team of the Year' due to a disastrous World Cup campaign in the UAE, no Indian player featured in the global body's 'ODI Team of the Year' which features two players from minnows Ireland.
Incidentally, the team also doesn't have any Australia, English, New Zealand or West Indies players.
The team, which has Pakistan's Babar Azam as its captain, has two Pakistanis including Fakhar Zaman.
South Africans Janneman Malan and Rassie van der Dussen, Bangladeshis Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahaman and Mushfiqur Rahim, who is also the designated wicketkeeper, Sri Lankans Wanindu Hasaranga and Dishmantha Chameera along with Irishmen Paul Stirling and Simi Singh form the rest of the squad.

Sharma, Pant and Ashwin Included in ICC Men's Test Team of the Year

India opener Rohit Sharma, wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin were included in the ICC Men's Test team of the year for 2021.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has been given the charge of captaining the eleven which also has his countryman and Player of the Match in the inaugural World Test Championship final, Kyle Jamieson, as well.
Apart from three Indians and two New Zealanders, England captain Joe Root, Australia's Marnus Labuschagne, Sri Lanka's Dimuth Karunaratne, and Pakistani trio of Fawad Alam, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Afridi are in the eleven as well.
It is Ashwin's fifth appearance and Pant's second time in the Test team of the year honours while it is the first time Sharma is in the coveted eleven of Test cricket.

Sania Mirza Reveals Retirement Plans

Trailblazing India tennis star Sania Mirza announced that she will hang up her racquet at the end of 2022 season.
Winner of six Grand Slam titles, including three mixed doubles trophies, Sania will retire as India's most accomplished woman tennis player.
She made the retirement announcement after losing the Australian Open women's doubles first round with partner Nadiia Kichenok. They lost to Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek and Kaja Juvan.

Russia's Aslan Karatsev Wins Sydney Tennis Classic

In tennis, Aslan Karatsev defeated Andy Murray by 6-3, 6-3, to win men's single title at the Sydney Tennis Classic final, to claim his third ATP Tour title. The women's single title was claimed by Spanish world number nine Paula Badosa, who defeated Barbora Krejcikova 6-3 4-6 7-6(4), to capture her third career title.

Mandhana Named in ICC T20I Women's Team of the Year

Star India opener Smriti Mandhana was named in the ICC T20 women's Team of the Year for her superlative show in the format in 2021 but no Indian made the men's side.
The stylish southpaw, who is the Indian team's vice-captain in the format, was the country's highest scorer in the format in 2021 with 255 runs at an average of 31.87.
She scored two fifties in the nine matches she played and got her team off to rapid starts regularly, as evident up by her strike-rate of 131.44.
While Mandhana was the only Indian, several members of the English side featured in the team with Nat Scriver being named captain.

Unmukt Chand Becomes First Indian Cricketer to Play in a BBL Match

Former U-19 World Cup winning skipper Unmukt Chand became the first Indian cricketer to play in Australia's Big Bash T20 League as he made his debut for Melbourne Renegades.
Chand, a right-handed batsman, made his BBL debut against Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL.
Chand, under whose leadership India had won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2012 in Australia, retired from all forms of Indian cricket in August last year, making him eligible to play leagues overseas.

TCS Title Sponsor of Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Virtual Race till 2026

IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) partnered with Canada Running Series (CRS) to become the new title sponsor and official IT services and technology consulting partner of the Toronto Waterfront Marathon and Virtual Race through November 2026.
This news follows TCS' renewal of its title and technology sponsorship of the TCS New York City Marathon, as well as becoming the new title and technology sponsor of the TCS London Marathon this year.
TCS and CRS aim to modernise marathon running in Canada through a new official race app. It will offer a first-of-its-kind calculator that will enable runners and spectators to track and offset their environmental impact. TCS will also work with CRS to create a hybrid and immersive race experience for all runners and spectators around the globe.

Goalkeeper Savita Punia is Captain of India Women's Hockey Team

Goalkeeper Savita Punia will lead India at the upcoming women's Asia Cup in Muscat as Hockey India named a strong 18-member squad for the event, including 16 players that featured at the Tokyo Olympics. Since regular skipper Rani Rampal is recovering from an injury in Bengaluru, Savita will lead the side in the tournament, which is scheduled to be held between January 21-28.
Indian women are the defending champions. Seven other teams competing at the Women's Hockey Asia Cup 2022 are China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

Anand Chef de Mission for Commonwealth Games; Bajwa for Asian Games

The Indian Olympic Association appointed senior vice president of the Indian Olympic Association Rakesh Anand as the Chef de Mission of the country's contingent for the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held at Birmingham from July 28-August 8.
The IOA also announced the appointment of president of Wushu Association of India Bhupender Singh Bajwa as India's Chef de Mission for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from September 10-25.
