IIT Guwahati Developed Technique for Making Sugar Substitute "Xylitol"

Researchers at IIT Guwahati have created a fermentation process that uses ultrasound to safely generate Xylitol from sugarcane bagasse, the byproduct of crushing sugar cane.
This approach gets over the operational constraints of chemical synthesis and the time lags of traditional fermentation.
The use of ultrasound during the fermentation process not only reduced the time of fermentation to 15 hours, but also increased the yield of the product by almost 20%.

World's First Fleet of Hydrogen Passenger Trains by Germany

The world's first fleet of hydrogen-powered passenger trains was launched by Germany. The first fleet of hydrogen-powered passenger trains has replaced 15 diesel trains that were previously operated on non-electrified tracks in Lower Saxony, Germany.
The engine of the trains is powered by electricity generated using hydrogen fuel cells. The use of hydrogen is a clean alternative to fossil fuels as per the German government's announcement.
The state governor Stephan Weil said that Lower Saxony has invested a total of 93 million euros for the first fleet of hydrogen-powered passenger train projects. This invitation is an excellent example and effort to make the economy of Germany greener.

HPCL starts its first cow dung based compressed biogas project

HPCL's uses first of its kind Waste-to-Energy portfolio, uses 100 tonnes of dung per day to make biogas, which may be used as vehicle fuel.
In a year, the HPCL Compressed Biogas Project project is expected to be put into operation.
The GOBAR-Dhan plan, announced by the Indian government in April 2018 as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission's (Grameen) Biodegradable Waste Management component, is the framework under which the HPCL Compressed Biogas Project initiative is being developed.

Uttarakhand: Observatory to Monitor Space Activity

India's first commercial space observatory will be set up in the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand. Digantara, a startup started in the field of space, will build this laboratory. This observatory will monitor the 10 cm size of microscopic particles moving in the space around the Earth. This space situational awareness observatory will help in monitoring space waste and military satellites hovering in space around the Earth.

India's first electric double-decker bus 'Switch EiV 22'

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari recently launched India's first AC double-decker electric bus named 'Switch EiV 22' developed by Ashok Leyland in Mumbai. The bus can gain a 100km of range with just a 45min charge, while a full charge takes 80 minutes and has a Nickel, Manganese and Cobalt (NMC) battery that comes with an 8-year warranty.

NASA's Moon landing sites for Artemis III mission

NASA is in full preparation to send its astronauts to moon again. The US space agency is currently focusing on the launch of its Artemis I rocket which is scheduled to be launched on August 29, 2022. This rocket is moved to the launch pad for final preparation. Amid all these happenings, NASA has now identified multiple potential landing sites for Artemis III, which will be the first mission to bring crew to the lunar surface, including the first woman to set foot on the Moon.
