IIT Hyderabad and NIMS Japan Jointly Launch Research Centre for Materials Research

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad, and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan today launched Joint Research Centre. The two institutes had signed an agreement last year on an international collaborative graduate school programme which allows graduate students enrolled in doctoral programs to stay at NIMS for up to one year for their thesis research works.
  • To further develop the joint research with complementary strengths in the materials science field, young faculty members of IITH stay at NIMS with their PhD course students during the sabbatical leave period and conduct sustainable collaboration with NIMS scientists. To perform the sustainable joint research between both institutions, the research centre has been launched.
  • The opening of this joint research centre will further strengthen these ties and support the future leaders of both countries to achieve the best research results in the field of materials science.

CBSE Launches 'Dost for Life' Mobile App for Students and Parents

  • Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE has launched a new mobile app for students and parents. The new app 'Dost for Life' is an exclusive psychological counselling app for students and parents of CBSE-affiliated schools. The app has been designed for students of classes 9 to 12 and parents and can be used for counselling sessions.
  • The new App will simultaneously cater to students and parents from CBSE-affiliated schools in different geographies across the world. The Board will conduct live counselling sessions free of cost thrice a week on Monday, Friday, and Wednesday by trained counselors/Principals. Students and parents of CBSE affiliated schools can choose any of the two-time slots: 9.30 am to 1.30 pm or 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm and connect through a Chatbox as per their convenience.
  • The app will also provide students information on suggestive course guides after 10+2, tips on mental health and well-being, a corona guide, and also rap songs.

BHU Announces Part-Time Course in Fundamentals of Social Design

  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Uttar Pradesh, has announced a three-month part-time certificate course – Fundamentals of Social Design: Social Design in India and USA – Under the SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) project of the Education Ministry.
  • The course aims to prepare creative change makers with the tools and methods to advance equity and social justice and become pioneers and leaders in the practice.
  • Students, designers, professionals, academicians from different disciplines and knowledge bases can register for the course.
  • Those who maintain 70 per cent attendance throughout the course will receive e certificate from Banaras Hindu University, Maryland Institute College of Arts, and Michigan State University.

Tripura: Nine More Schools Affiliated To CBSE

  • State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that nine more schools in Tripura have been affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
  • Sabual English Medium HS School, Damcherra English Medium Model School, Kumarghat English Medium High School, Ambassa English Medium Model School, Ananda Roaja Memorial English Medium High School Karbook English Medium Model School, Melaghar English Medium HS School, Kshudiram Basu English Medium School, and Bhagat Singh Hindi (English Medium) School in Tripura have been affiliated to the central education board.
  • Previously, 20 schools of the state were affiliated to the CBSE.

MP Govt. to Introduce Vedic Sciences, Vaastu in New Vocational Curriculum

  • The higher education department of Madhya Pradesh has decided to design a new vocational curriculum with subjects such as Vedic sciences and Vaastu at the core of its new educational syllabus.
  • According to the state government official, the new course being introduced by the Madhya Pradesh government has a special focus on Vedic Karmkand (rituals), Jyotishi (astrology), Vedic science, and Vastu Shastra (a mix of architecture and spirituality), apart from other courses such as hotel management and physical training.
  • In the new and improved syllabus designed by the Madhya Pradesh education department for higher educational institutes in the state, subjects such as Vedic Karmakand, Vedic science and astrology, yoga, hotel management, and dietary science will be introduced.

Chinese Covid Vaccine Gets WHO Emergency Approval

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has granted emergency approval for a Covid vaccine made by Chinese state-owned company Sinopharm.
  • It is the first vaccine developed by a non-Western country to get WHO backing.
  • The vaccine has already been given to millions of people in China and elsewhere.
  • The WHO had previously only approved the vaccines made by Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna.
  • But individual health regulators in various countries - especially poorer ones in Africa, Latin America and Asia - have approved Chinese jabs for emergency use.
  • With little data released internationally early on, the effectiveness of the various Chinese vaccines has long been uncertain.

Nation's First Drive in Vaccination Center in Mumbai

  • The Nation's first 'Drive in Vaccination Center' was inaugurated by MP Rahul Shewale in Mumbai. This center has been set up in the parking lot of Kohinoor Square Tower at Dadar. This first of its kind 'Drive-in Vaccination Center' facility has been made available to the citizens at a time when people with disabilities are facing difficulties in getting to the vaccination center.
  • The center also provides transportation facilities to the citizens who do not have their own vehicles. The vaccination has been started and the facility is available for all sections of society. MP Rahul Shewale informed that this facility will be provided in other multi-parking lots in the city, after assessing the success of this first project.

IIT Roorkee Ties up with Edtech Company to Offer High-quality Tech Programmes

  • E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee signed an MoU with Great Learning, an edtech company in India, for launching the online certification programmes in Software Development, Cloud Computing, and Data Science.
  • The programmes, offered under the aegis of IIT Roorkee, are of two types -- advanced certificate programme in Full Stack Software Development spanning 10 months with specialization in either Cloud Computing or Python for Data Science, and shorter duration certificate programmes in Front End Software Development, Back End Software Development, Cloud Computing and Python for Data Science.
  • E&ICT Academy IIT Roorkee programmes aim to bridge the talent gap in these areas and prepare professionals for these job opportunities.
