IIT Guwahati to Collaborate with North Eastern Space Application Centre to Study Disasters

IIT Guwahati is set to collaborate with North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) to carry out several initiatives jointly for development of the North East Region and create a mass of skilled professionals in the field.
An MoU was signed between the two institutions on June 28, 2021. Some of the initiatives that would be taken up under this partnership include internship programmes, joint degree programmes, short-term training programmes, student exchange programmes and joint projects, among others.
A multi-disciplinary approach would be adopted to study ways to tackle disasters.

Rajasthan Schools Rank Last in Terms of Gender Parity in Senior Classes

Rajasthan schools rank last in the Gender Parity Index (GPI) at the higher secondary level when compared with the rest of the country, reveals the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report 2019-20, which analyses trends in school education in the country.
According to the released 2019-20 report, in Rajasthan, the GPI value for classes 11-12 is 0.87, much lower than the national average of 1.04 in this category.
GPI for gross enrollment ratio (GER) is the ratio of girls to boys enrolled in schools, and is a measure of the relative access to education. A GPI of less than 1 suggests girls are more disadvantaged than boys in terms of access to school.

University of Hull Announces Undergraduate Scholarships

The University of Hull, a teaching and research-based UK University, has announced a scholarship scheme for undergraduate courses for the academic year 2021-22. Foreign students (from India, Nepal, Philippines, etc) with an international fee status and European Union students starting their undergraduate course in 2021/22 are eligible for the scholarships.
Under this scheme, a discount of £1,500 will be given per year for the sciences programmes and £1,000 for the arts programmes, off the total tuition fee. Students from countries classified by the World Bank as lower-income and middle lower-income countries will receive an additional discount of £2000 per year. Indian students may avail of this additional discount since India is classified as a middle lower-income country.

Rationalised Syllabus, Two Term Exams

In view of the Covid-19 pandemic and uncertainty around board exams for the past two years, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a change in the way it conducts exams.
The CBSE announced a special assessment scheme for class X and XII Board exams, splitting the academic session into two terms.
It also announced plans to rationalise the syllabus for the 2021-22 academic session and to make the internal assessment and project work more credible and valid.
According to an official order, the term one exams will be held in November-December 2021, while the second term exams will be conducted in March-April 2022.
The syllabus for the 2021-22 academic session will be divided into two terms by following a systematic approach by looking into the inter-connectivity of concepts and topics by the subject experts.

Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' Launches NIPUN Bharat

The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education launched National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat). It was launched virtually by Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank'.
A short video, anthem and implementation guidelines on NIPUN Bharat was also launched.
The vision of NIPUN Bharat Mission is to create an enabling environment to ensure universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, so that every child achieves the desired learning competencies in reading, writing and numeracy by the end of Grade 3, by 2026-27.

Nine New Medical Colleges to be Built in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government said that nine new medical colleges will come up in the state this month and these will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per reports, the new colleges in Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh and Siddharthnagar districts will add a new dimension to the state's existing health system.

ISRO Gives Nod to Parliamentary Panel to Implement Satellite TV Classrooms

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) gave its nod to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education to provide technical assistance for satellite TV classrooms in the country to bridge the learning gap due to COVID-induced lockdown.
ISRO scientists appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Education and made a detailed presentation about the proposed satellite TV classroom for students.
Vinay Sahastrabuddhe-led parliamentary panel had earlier sought help from ISRO scientists to provide technical assistants to start satellite TV classrooms for students who reported a learning gap in the school syllabus due to the COVID pandemic.
