Ashoka University Announces Merit cum Means Scholarship for Science Students

Ashoka University announced its first-ever Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for the academic year 2022-23 for undergraduate students intending to major in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
The university would award 25 scholarships in addition to the need-based financial aid available to all students. Out of these 25 students, five candidates would receive a waiver of 100 per cent on Tuition and Residence, and the remaining 20 would receive a waiver of 100 per cent on Tuition.

Chennai-based Blue Cross Flags off Country's First Mobile Ambulance for Street Animals' Treatment

Justice Anita Sumanth and chairman of Blue Cross, S. Chinny Krishna, flagged off the country's first fully equipped mobile ambulance for on-site treatment of street animals. Supported by animal welfare organisation, Four Paws, the vehicle was inaugurated at Blue Cross of India, Guindy, Tamil Nadu.
With this step, the NGO curbs the existence of overly gravid shelters while taking immediate measures for street animals when needed.

IIT Kanpur Develops Novel Nanoparticles to Protect Rice, other Crops from Diseases

A team of researchers of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, (IIT-K) developed a novel nanoparticle-based bio-degradable-carbonoid-metabolite (BioDCM) that can protect agricultural crops from fungal and bacterial infections.
The team led by Santosh K Misra and Piyush Kumar from the department of biological sciences and bioengineering developed BioDCM in collaboration with researchers C Kannan and Divya Mishra from ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, and R Balamurugan and Mou Mandal from the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad.
This comes as the second such innovation in the agriculture sector from IIT Kanpur since last year. Last year, out of the 107 patents filed by the institute, one path-breaking invention was the "Bhu-Parikshak" soil-testing device that has proven to significantly reduce time and hassle required for testing soil in the lab.

National Law University Delhi Launches New-age Online Digital Courses

National Law University Delhi launched two new-age digital courses online. NLU's centres Project39A and Centre for Communication Governance (CCG) launched the courses to promote and advance interdisciplinary legal studies in India. The courses are -- Decoding Forensics for Legal Professionals, and Forensic Mental Health and Criminal Justice.
"NLU Delhi's focus since inception has been to look beyond normative legal studies pattern and frame new multi-disciplinary courses and encourage research in specialised areas that are still nascent.
The new online courses are aimed at imparting an understanding of the use and limitations of forensic science in criminal law and relevance of mental disability in criminal justice system, respectively.
They have been launched in collaboration with Eleos Justice at Monash Law School, Australia.

Lucknow University Launches in-house Internship Programme through Karmoday Scheme

University of Lucknow launched a new in-house internship programme for students. This project is known as the Karmoday scheme, and according to the institution, it coincides with the recommendations made in the National Education Policy, NEP 2020.
As per reports, Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai started the Karmoday initiative to put clause 12 of NEP2020 into action, which emphasises proper student support focused on the development of capacities among students in higher education.
The internship for students will be for a minimum of 50 days and a maximum of one semester under the Karmoday scheme. According to reports, the maximum working hours for pupils will be two hours each day, evenly spread over a two-month period.

Ukraine a Hotspot for Indian Medical Students

War-hit Ukraine is the third most popular destination after China and the Philippines for Indian students pursuing medical studies. Every year, thousands of Indian students choose Ukraine for many reasons.
The fees are near to half in Ukraine as compared to India. Apart from lower fees, better infrastructure and different patterns of study attract students from India.
As per Educationist C.S. Kandpal, one of the major reasons for the popularity of medical courses in Ukraine is that students do not have to take any separate examination to join them, whereas NEET is conducted in India for admission to medical courses.
While lakhs of students appear in NEET every year, only about 40,000 get admission in government medical colleges. In such a situation, a large number of NEET qualified Indian students turn to Ukraine.

IIT-Madras Offers International Interdisciplinary Master's Programme

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras launched an International Interdisciplinary Master's Programme (I2MP) in nine areas that include next-generation technologies such as quantum science.
International students from any engineering background can apply for the two-year-long master's programmes at IIT Madras. Scholarships will be provided for accepted international students with outstanding records.
The international interdisciplinary master's degrees are available in nine interdisciplinary areas: energy systems, robotics, quantum science and technology, computational engineering, advanced materials and nanotechnology, data science, cyber-physical systems, complex systems and dynamics, and biomedical engineering.

Truman State University Announces Scholarships for Indian Students

The US-based Truman State University is offering the President's Honorary scholarship for Indian students. These scholarships will be awarded for on-campus education for the fall 2022 session. Each meritorious Indian student will be awarded scholarships up to US$ 10,000.

TCS, University of Kashmir Collaborate to Offer Education, Skilling and Entrepreneurship Programme

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) partnered up with the University of Kashmir to launch a programme with the aim to improve employability skills of students in Kashmir, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
TCS aims to carry out its Youth Employment Program (YEP), BridgeIT, goIT, Ignite My Future (IMF) and Adult Literacy Program (ALP) within the next three years.
College students from Kashmir will be trained to prosper in the digital economy through the YEP programme, which have proved successful in the past too. The training programme will cover English communication, corporate etiquette, analytical thinking, and problem-solving, basic computer and technical skills, and self-confidence.
The University of Kashmir will, meanwhile, play the role of a facilitator and help create linkages for TCS to drive its goIT and IMF initiatives, under which school students will be motivated to pursue technology using resources such as design thinking, mobile app development, and mentorship from TCS employees.

Skill Development to be Made Compulsory Subject for Classes 9 to 12 in Haryana

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that skill development will be made a compulsory subject for students of classes 9 to 12 so that the youth of the state can become self-reliant in all aspects.
The Chief Minister said that skill universities are the need of the hour and the state government has set up Haryana's first such university in Palwal.
In this policy, along with education and employment, the main goal is to make the students cultured and self-reliant so that they make significant contributions in making India a global leader again.

Indian Schools Invited to Compete for New World's Best School Prizes

High-achieving schools in India were invited to enter the USD 2,50,000 inaugural World's Best School Prizes, launched by London-headquartered T4 Education in partnership with professional services major Accenture.
The new prize, launched this month, was conceptualised to celebrate schools worldwide for the important role they play and for their enormous contribution to society's progress, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic.
It is aimed at creating a new platform to tell the stories of schools that are transforming the lives of their students and making a real difference to their communities.
A Top 10 shortlist for each prize category will be announced later this year, followed by a shortlist of three finalists for each prize. After a public advisory vote, the winner of each category will be chosen by the Judging Academy comprising distinguished leaders from around the world.
