TCS and IIT Madras Partner to Launch M. Tech Program in Industrial AI

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras partnered with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to launch an online masters course, M.Tech in Industrial AI. The course is targeted at up skilling corporate employees in applications of artificial intelligence to industrial problems.
The 18-month-long course will be offered by IIT Madras through virtual classrooms. The first cohort of students for the program will be from TCS.
Each subject in the programme will have a mid-term and a final examination conducted in online mode, besides project work.
There will be a total of 28-30 hours of online classes per week with post-classroom activities.

Kochi-based Start-up Launches Video Solutions to CBSE Maths Problems

A Kochi-based educational start-up launched video solutions to mathematics questions for CBSE syllabus explaining how to solve each problem.
Showans.com, the web portal, initiated the service explaining answers to multiple-choice questions in video format.
In the first phase, the video service covers the mathematics syllabus of CBSE Classes X, XI and XII.

Sri Lanka Cancels School Exams over Paper Shortage

Sri Lanka cancelled exams for millions of school students as the country ran out of printing paper with Colombo short on dollars to finance imports. Sri Lanka contended with its worst financial crisis since independence in 1948. A debilitating economic crisis brought on by a shortage of foreign exchange reserves to finance essential imports, has seen the country run low on food, fuel and pharmaceuticals.

India and Australia to Establish Taskforce on Qualifications Recognition

The governments of India and Australia are joining hands to establish a taskforce to develop qualifications recognition arrangements between the two countries that will help enhance two-way mobility.
This collaboration was announced by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison. This taskforce will enable and promote the recognition of online and blended learning, joint degrees and offshore campuses.
As per reports, the task force would consult with stakeholders to identify opportunities for the recognition of Australian and Indian higher education qualifications and to make recommendations to improve arrangements based on best principles and practices in recognition.

UGC Announces All Central Universities will have Mandatory Entrance Test

All central universities will have to admit students to undergraduate courses based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and not Class 12 marks, the University Grants Commission (UGC) announced. This rule will come into force from the upcoming academic year (2022-23).
UGC chairperson M. Jagadesh Kumar said that it will be mandatory for the 45 central universities to adopt CUET for admission to their undergraduate courses. However, for postgraduate admissions, universities will have the flexibility to use CUET scores as of now.
The common test, CUET, for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, will be conducted in the first week of July by the National Test Agency (NTA).

Bhagavad Gita Made Compulsory in Gujarat Schools for Classes 6 to 12

The holy epic Bhagavad Gita was made compulsory in all schools of Gujarat. In a move that has surprised many, Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said that the Bhagavad Gita would be taught to students of classes 6 to 12.
As per reports, the reason behind making Bhagavad Gita a mandatory part of the school syllabus is to promote 'Indian culture and knowledge system'. The move is expected to be implemented in schools in Gujarat from the upcoming academic year 2022-23.
Education Minister Vaghani said that the Bhagavad Gita would be introduced in parts. This sacred text would be introduced in the form of story and text in the text books for classes 6 to 8. For classes 9 to 12, it would be introduced in the form of story and text in a first language text book.

Embassy REIT the First in India to Achieve a WELL Portfolio Score

Embassy Office Parks REIT ('Embassy REIT'), India's first listed REIT and the largest office REIT in Asia by area, and the International WELL Building Institute ('IWBI') announced that Embassy REIT has been awarded a WELL Portfolio Score across all its business parks pan-India.
This makes Embassy REIT the first organization in India to receive a WELL Portfolio Score for implementing health and wellbeing strategies through a portfolio-wide approach.
With a score of 49 in its first year of participation, Embassy REIT scored above the global average in 6 of 10 wellness-related parameters assessed. The portfolio was ranked in the top 5% globally by IWBI in terms of area and number of people impacted. Embassy REIT also achieved a 100% score in the 'Movement' parameter, highlighting the integration of physical activity and fitness into everyday life at its business parks.

Vaccination of 12-14 Age Group Begins

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India was much better placed to fight the Covid pandemic now with many 'Made in India' vaccines and asked people to keep adhering to Covid appropriate behaviour.
Hailing the commencement of Covid inoculation drive for 12 to 14-year old at government vaccination centres and booster shots for all 60-year plus, the PM noted that India's vaccine campaign was people-driven unlike in other countries where vaccine hesitancy was a challenge.

Maternal Mortality in India: Kerala Tops in MMR

Kerala again emerged on top when it comes to maternal and child health, with the state recording the lowest Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of 30 (per one lakh live births) in the country. According to the latest data, India's maternal mortality ratio (MMR) improved to 103 for the period 2017-19.
The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of Kerala has dropped from 42 to 30. Kerala achieved the UN Sustainable Development Goals of MMR in the year 2020 itself. Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births.
Kerala, Telangana, and Maharashtra are included in the top 3 states with the lowest MMR in India.
The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has worsened in West Bengal, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh.
The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has drastically improved in UP, Rajasthan, and Bihar.
Italy, Norway, Poland, and Belarus have the lowest MMR in the world.
