Antiviral Drugs May Reduce Monkeypox Symptoms, Shorten Contagious Phase

Some antiviral medications might have the potential to shorten symptoms of monkeypox and reduce the amount of time a patient is contagious, according to a study of seven patients diagnosed with the rare viral disease in the UK between 2018 and 2021. The research also reported the patient response to the first off-label use of two different antiviral medications -- brincidofovir and tecovirimat -- to treat the disease.
The researchers also report detection of monkeypox virus in blood and throat swabs. As optimum infection control and treatment strategies for this disease are not yet established, data from the study could help inform global efforts to further understand the clinical features of the disease as well as transmission dynamics.

UAE Becomes First Gulf State to Record Case of Monkeypox

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first Gulf state to record a case of monkeypox. The Czech Republic and Slovenia also reported their first cases, joining 18 other countries to detect the virus outside its usual African base. That number is expected to rise further still, but experts say the overall risk to the general population remains low. Outbreaks of the virus have been found in Europe, Australia, and America.
The symptoms often include fever and rash – but the infection is usually mild. The World Health Organization said that the virus can be contained with the right response in countries outside of Africa where it is not usually detected.

Ministry Of Education Releases National Achievement Survey Report (NAS) 2021

The National Achievement Survey (NAS) report for the 2021 edition was released. NAS2021: One of the largest surveys in the world, the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 was conducted across the country, to identify the learning gaps & to take remedial measures. The NAS 2021 report cards for the national, state and district levels have been made available at the official website "nas.gov.in."
The survey was conducted in 22 languages in Language, Mathematics and EVS for Class 3 and 5; Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Science for Class 8 and Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English for Class 10.
The objective of NAS 2021 is to evaluate children's progress and learning competencies as an indicator of the efficiency of the education system, so as to take appropriate steps for remedial actions at different levels. It will help to unravel the gaps in learning and will support state/UT governments in developing long term, mid-term and short-term interventions to improve learning levels and orient on differential planning based on NAS 2021 data.

Belgium Becomes First Country to Make Quarantine Compulsory for Monkeypox Patients

Belgium became the first country to make a 21-day quarantine compulsory for monkeypox patients after four cases of the disease were reported. The Belgian health authorities took this decision, Saudi Gazette reported citing Belgian media. The Belgian Institute of Tropical Medicine has said that the risk of a larger outbreak in the country is low.
Monkeypox is a disease in the same family as smallpox and symptoms include a distinct bumpy rash, a fever, sore muscles, and a headache. Monkeypox is less deadly than smallpox, with a mortality rate below four per cent, but experts are worried about the unusual spread of the disease beyond Africa where it usually circulates.

The Education World Forum is one of the largest events where education and skills ministers gather from different parts of the country to discuss key issues and problems they face in the education sector. This platform is also used to share solutions, new and creative ideas and share their learnings with one another.
Theme for Education World Forum 2022 was 'Education: building forward together; stronger, bolder, better'.

CUET 2022: Central Universities from the North Eastern States Exempted

The Union Education Minister made a major announcement for the candidates and the universities regarding the CUET 2022. The central Universities in the North Eastern States and Uttarakhand were exempted from the CUET 2022 norms. The official statement issued by the Ministry stated that "Considering the operational difficulties in conducting the exam of CUET 2022, i.e. the issue of geographical conditions, hilly terrain, far-flung location, limited digital connectivity, infrastructure, etc. It has been decided that central Universities of North Eastern Regions namely Sikkim University, Rajiv Gandhi University, Manipur University, Assam University, Nagaland University, Tripura University, Mizoram University, NEHU as well HNB Garhwal University, Uttarakhand may take admission in the affiliated colleges to the central Universities as per the past practice instead of CUET for the year 2022-23 only."

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates North East Research Conclave 2022 at IIT ...

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, launched the North East Research Conclave (NERC) 2022 at IIT Guwahati. Pradhan stated that the conclave would enhance the ties between industry, academics, and policymakers, as well as re-energize the research, start-up, and entrepreneurial ecosystems in the resource-rich Northeastern Region states and the country.
The inauguration of the conclave was followed by the signing of an agreement between IIT Guwahati and the Government of Assam to establish 'The Assam Advanced Health Innovation Institute (AAHII).
This will be a unique partnership between the Government of Assam and IIT Guwahati to set up a Research Institution to leverage advanced technologies to transform medical science. The joint venture company will invite participation from intending parties including corporates/ business houses/research institutions and philanthropic organisations
