Union Health Minister Releases FSSAI's 4th State Food Safety Index on World Food Safety Day

  • On the occasion of World Food Safety Day, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya released the 4th State Food Safety Index. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) compiled the report to assess states' performance across five food safety categories. The winning State/UTs based on the rating for the year 2021-22 were additionally honoured by the Health Minister for their outstanding performance across five food safety metrics.
  • The Health Minister also congratulated the 11 winning smart cities of the EatSmart Cities Challenge, which was launched by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in collaboration with the Smart Cities Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs last year (MoHUA). He also presented the Eat Right Research Challenge for Cities and Districts, as well as the Eat Right Research Awards and Grants, to the recipients.

National Tribal Research Institute

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Tribal Research Institute in Delhi.
  • Over 100 tribal artisans and tribal dance troupes from across India showcased their indigenous products and performances.
  • The National Tribal Research Institute will be a premier national level institute. It will become a nerve centre of tribal concerns, matters and issues in academic, legislative and executive fields.
  • It will network and collaborate with reputed research institutes, organisations, universities, resource centres and academic bodies.
  • The institute will monitor projects of Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs), research scholars of NFS and Centres of Excellence (CoEs).
  • It will also set up norms to improve in quality of research and training.

NABARD Chairman Launches My Pad My Right Programme in Leh

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Chairman Dr GR Chintala launched "My Pad My Right programme", in Leh. The programme launched by Nabard's NabFoundation with machinery and materials of a cost of Seven and half Lakh rupees. Dr GR Chintala announced to sanction One more lakh to upgrade the machinery to make sanitary pads suitable to the demands of women of different age groups.
  • This efforts are on for economic empowerment of rural women through menstrual hygiene.
  • This will help women to participate in country's economic development. Under this unique project, award winning sanitary pad making machines will be installed through the network of self help groups.

'eSanjeevani' Integrated with NHA's Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)

  • The National Health Authority (NHA) said that the government's 'eSanjeevani' telemedicine service was integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). This integration allows the existing eSanjeevani users to easily create their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) and use it to link and manage their existing health records. The users would also be able to share their health records with doctors on eSanjeevani leading to better clinical decision making and ensuring the continuum of care.
  • The eSanjeevani service is available in two variants. The first one is eSanjeevani Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centre (AB-HWC), a doctor-to-doctor telemedicine service through which the beneficiaries visiting a health and wellness centre can virtually connect to doctors in the hub that could be at a tertiary healthcare facility, a hospital or a medical college. The second variant, eSanjeevani OPD is serving patients across the country by connecting them directly to doctors from the comforts of their homes.

Asia University Rankings 2022 by Times Higher Education (THE): 4 Indian Institutions in Top 100

  • The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) continued to be the best institute from the country, being ranked at 42nd place in the latest Asia University Rankings 2022 by Times Higher Education (THE). Following IISc in the top 100 institutions from Asia were JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research at 65th place, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar at 68th rank and IIT Indore at 87th place. With 71 institutions as against 63 last year, India was the third most-represented country, behind Japan and mainland China. Further, there were 17 Indian universities in the top 200, down from 18 last year. Of the 14 that were ranked in both years, eight improved their rankings.
  • China is home to the continent's top two universities for the third consecutive year, with Tsinghua and Peking universities holding on to first and second place, respectively. Japan is the most-represented nation again this year, with 118 institutions, up from 116 last year.
