Students to Benefit from Financial Help by Government under Midday Meal Scheme
To help safeguard the nutritional levels of children, the central government has decided to provide financial help to 11.8 crore students under the Midday Meal scheme through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of the cooking cost for the meals.
Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has approved the proposal for the same.
With schools closed for montsh due to Covid-19, this move will give a fillip to the Midday Meal programme.
This is in addition to the Government of India's announcement of distribution of free-of-cost food grains at Rs 5/kg per person per month to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY).

Gujarat Governor Gives Assent to Bill Penalising Fraudulent Conversion by Marriage
Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, gave his assent to Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2021 along with 7 other bills. These bills were passed in March 2021 during the budget session of the state assembly.
Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2021is also called as "anti-love jihad" Bill. It provides for punishment of 3-10 years in jail for forcible and fraudulent religious conversions by marrying the person. It amends the 2003 Act.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh has enacted the "Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020" which is unofficially called as 'love jihad law'. This law makes conversion a non-bailable offence with up to 10 years of jail time if it is undertaken unlawfully or forcefully.

Uttarakhand Police Launches 'Mission Hausla'
The Uttarakhand Police has launched a drive called "Mission Hausla" to help people get oxygen, beds, ventilators and plasma for COVID-19 patients.
Besides these, police will also help public get medicines meant for COVID-19 management as part of the mission and rations.
Delivering medicines, oxygen and ration at the doorsteps of families battling the coronavirus and coordinating between plasma donors and those in need of it will also be some of the activities to be taken up by the police as part of the mission.

Govt. Approves Scheme for Promoting ACC Battery Manufacturing
The government approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacturing advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery at an estimated outlay of Rs. 18,100 crore.
With the objective to promote the Make in India initiative, the National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage is expected to attract foreign and domestic investment of Rs. 45,000 crore, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The proposal aims to achieve manufacturing of 50 gigawatts of battery storage, these incentives will be available to those companies having higher production and sales capability.
The policy aims to make manufacturers globally competitive, boost exports, achieve economies of scale and produce cutting edge products.
Odisha government has announced Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana for journalists. Odisha has declared the journalists as frontline Covid warriors. It will benet more than 6500 journalists of the state.
Under the Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana, a health insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakh will be provided to each Journalist. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 15 lakh will be provided to the families of journalists who died from COVID-19 while performing duty.
