Srinagar's Amar Singh College Recognised with UNESCO Award

Srinagar based Amar Singh College has been recognized with the 'Award of Merit' in the 2020 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The restoration of the Amar Singh College brought back one of the most prominent institutional buildings in Kashmir to its former glory.
The college building is 80 years old and INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) chapter in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir had carried out the conservation work at the Amar Singh College.

ICC Awards of Decade

India skipper Virat Kohli won the ICC men's ODI Player of the Decade award for his superb performance with the bat in the 50-over format. Kohli also walked home with the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men's Cricketer of the Decade. Kohli was nominated for the player of the decade award across all three formats.
Former Australia skipper Steve Smith won the ICC men's Test Player of the Decade award, while Afghanistan's Rashid Khan was awarded the ICC men's T20I Player of the Decade award.
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni got the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade for calling back England batsman Ian Bell back to the crease after he was ruled out by the umpire.
Among women's cricketers, Australia's Ellyse Perry won ICC Women's Player of the Decade, ODI Player of the Decade and T20I Player of the Decade award.

Digital India Awards 2020

The Chief Minister of Bihar, National Informatics Centre and the Disaster Management Department have been jointly chosen as winners in "Pandemic Category" in Digital India Awards, 2020.
Earlier the Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Department won the Digital India Award, 2020 under the "Excellence in Digital Governance" category. It was selected for its Points of Sale based food distribution, online billing and payment for food grains purchased from farmers, GPS tracking of vehicles transporting food grains.
Bihar was selected under the Pandemic Category for its financial assistance to more than 21 lakhs of stranded workers outside Bihar. The assistance was provided through "Bihar Sahayata Mobile App".
The Bihar Government provided Rs 1000 to workers coming from outside to Bihar and also to persons stuck in other states. The State government also provided financial assistance to the workers of other states, who got stuck in Bihar due to COVID-19. The Bihar Corona Sahayata Mobile App was used to implement the initiative. The workers will have to simply register on the mobile app. Once the verification of the workers was complete, the amount will be directly added to their account.
The Digital India Awards are presented by President Ram Nath Kovind every year.

Best Performing Civic Body in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Awards

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has selected Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation as the best performing civic body. Vishakhapatnam was placed under the Annual Awards for Excellence that recognises outstanding contribution of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban in 2019. The award is to be presented on January 1, 2021.
Andhra Pradesh secured the third position in best performing state category. This is the third time the state has received the award. Also, the state bagged special category award in innovative construction technology and project monitoring tools.
Mirzapur won the best performing Municipal body. Nagar Panchayat Malihabad Lucknow was selected for the first place and Hariharpur was selected for the second place.
The Ministry has decided to include awards for "Best Performances for utilisation of technology and transparency in selection of housing beneficiaries in urban areas". A total of five awards are presented. They are as follows: Best Performing States, Best Performing Municipal Corporation, Best Performing Municipality, Best House Construction and Special Awards to recognise best practices.

Indian Homeopathic Doctor Bhaskar Sharma Felicitated by US White House

Dr. Bhaskar Sharma, a renowned homeopathic physician has been felicitated by the White House for his contribution towards public health during the global pandemic.
He has been conferred two awards namely Presidential Active Lifestyle Award and Presidential Youth Fitness Award by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Professor Dr. Bhaskar Sharma of Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh — the birthplace of Gautam Buddha — worked towards making the common people aware about the Coronavirus, educating them about the disease and its prevention. It is these laudable efforts of his and their incomparable contribution toward social concern that have brought him the prestigious awards. Dr. Sharma is the only Indian homeopathic doctor to have received this award. It is indeed a moment of immense pride for him and the country.

US President Donald Trump Presents Legion of Merit to PM Narendra Modi

US President Donald Trump has presented the prestigious Legion of Merit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership in elevating the strategic partnership of the two countries and emergence of India as a global power.
India's Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, accepted the award on behalf of the Prime Minister from the US National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien at the White House.
The Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit is given only to the Head of State or Government.
Trump also presented the Legion of Merit to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and the former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The awards were received by their respective ambassadors in Washington DC.
