Anju Bobby George Wins 'Woman of Year Award' from World Athletics

  • Legendary Indian athlete Anju Bobby George was bestowed with the Woman of the Year Award by World Athletics for grooming talent in the country and for her advocacy of gender equality. Anju is the only Indian to have won a medal in the World Championships with a long jump bronze in the 2003 edition.
  • The former international long jump star from India is still actively involved in the sport. In 2016 she opened a training academy for young girls, which has already helped to produce a world U20 medallist.

International Press Institute Honours for NDTV, The Week Teams

  • The International Press Institute (IPI) India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2021 was awarded jointly to Sreenivasan Jain and Mariyam Alavi of NDTV, and Lakshmi Subramanian and Bhanu Prakash Chandra of "The Week". Meanwhile, the IPI India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2020 was awarded to Ritika Chopra of The Indian Express.
  • The award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, a trophy and a citation. The Vienna-based International Press Institute (IPI) is a global organisation dedicated to the promotion and protection of press freedom and the improvement of journalism practices.

S. K. Sohan Roy 1st Indian to be Honoured with Knighthood of Parte Guelfa

  • S. K. Sohan Roy from Kerala, CEO, and founder of Aries Group of Companies became the first Indian to be honoured with the Knighthood of Parte Guelfa for his humanitarian and Environmental protection efforts in business and movies. The honorary title of "Knight of Parte Guelfa" has been conferred upon him during the conferring ceremony organized during the Investitures of Parte Guelfa of Annus Domini 2021 and was held at the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Palagio di Parte Guelfa in Florence, Italy.
  • Order of the Guelph Part or Ordo Parte Guelfae which was initially known as Societas Partis Ecclesiae is an order of pontifical foundation established by Pope Clement IV in 1266. The Guelph part is concerned with environmental protection and the knighthood is recognised as the protector of the World Environment.

Laadli Awards for Two Reporters of The Hindu

  • Two articles published by The Hindu, including one from The Metroplus supplement, have won laurels at the 11th edition of the Laadli Media and Advertising Awards for gender sensitivity 2021 (regional).
  • Soma Basu from the Madurai bureau of The Hindu Metroplus won the award for gender sensitivity in the southern region for article category for her article on the 'A parallel pandemic as domestic abuse victims trapped with their abusers'.
  • Navamy Sudhish from the Kollam bureau of The Hindu was also awarded the Laadli Media award under print features category for 'Don't set us straight' published in the Sunday Magazine section.

Tamal Bandopadhyay wins Tata Literature Live! Award

  • Senior journalist and Business Standard columnist Tamal Bandyopadhyay won the Tata Literature Live! Award for his book Pandemonium: The Great Indian Banking Tragedy.
  • Published by Roli Books, Pandemonium was selected under the business book of the year category.
  • Bandopadhyay, who writes the Banker's Trust column, had earlier received an award at Kalinga Literary Festival for Pandemonium — touted as a definitive insider story on the rot in India's banking system.

All India Radio and Doordarshan win Multiple Awards at ABU - UNESCO Peace Media Awards 2021

  • TV show produced by Doordarshan and radio show by All India Radio received multiple awards at the ABU - UNESCO Peace Media Awards-2021 at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. All India Radio's programme 'Living on the edge - The coastal lives' won an award in the category of 'Ethical and Sustainable Relationship with Nature'. Doordarshan's programme 'DEAFinitely Leading the Way won an award under 'Living Well with Super Diversity' category.
  • The award presentation ceremony was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 17th of November. The awards were given by UNESCO in collaboration with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union under 'Together for Peace' initiative.
  • All India Radio series 'Living on the edge - The coastal lives' explores life for fishing communities living on the edge in Visakhapatnam. This programme was devised and produced by Monika Gulati, Programme Executive of All India Radio in Delhi.
