Vimala Pai Konkani Annual Literary Awards

  • The Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan, World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru, announced Smt. Vimala V. Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar, annual literary awards for Konkani Literature, for the year 2021.
  • Massam, a collection of Konkani short stories by Antony Barkur (Antony Prakash D'Souza) was chosen as the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Prose), while Indradhonu Udeum, a collection of Konkani poems by Uday Narasinha Mhambro, was selected as the Best Konkani Book of the Year (Poetry).
  • The awards are based on a two-tier evaluation process. Firstly, a preliminary panel consisting of 16 referees recommends books shortlisted from among those published during the award period. Based on these recommendations, a five-member jury makes the final selections for the award.
  • World Konkani Centre founded by Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan, a premier Konkani organisation established in 1996 under the leadership of Vishwa Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy, has been relentlessly working towards preservation of Konkani language and culture since inception.

The Hindu's Shiv Sahay Singh Wins Prize at Ramnath Goenka Award

  • The Hindu's West Bengal correspondent Shiv Sahay Singh won the Ramnath Goenka Award in the "Uncovering India Invisible" category for his 2019 story "Death by Digital Exclusion" which exposed how the Jharkhand government's insistence on digitisation deprived people living on the margins of the benefits of the public distribution system (PDS).

Viral Desai Bags "Global Environment and Climate Action Citizen Award 2021"

  • Viral Sudhirbhai Desai, an industrialist from Surat, who is popularly known as the Greenman or green man of Gujarat was honoured with the Global Environment and Climate Action Citizen Award 2021. Among the 28 personalities from 11 countries (which includes the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, France, and Malaysia,) who were honoured with this award, Viral Desai was the only Indian to win the honour for climate change.

HDFC Bank Wins Coveted CII Award for 'Most Innovative Best Practice'

  • HDFC Bank's efforts in furthering financial inclusion through partnership with the Government of India's Common Service Centres (CSC) have been adjudged 'Most Innovative Best Practice' for financial inclusion at the coveted CII Digital Transformation Award 2021.

Anil Prakash Joshi Wins Mother Teresa Memorial Award

  • Anil Prakash Joshi Wins Mother Teresa Memorial Award
  • Environmentalist Anil Prakash Joshi, who was conferred upon the Padma Bhushan this year, has been awarded the Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice 2021. Vidyut Mohan, the winner of the Earth shot Prize, and Ridhima Pandey, a young environmental activist from Uttarakhand, were also the recipients of the award.
  • The Harmony Foundation identifies a theme each year for the Mother Teresa Memorial Awards and felicitates individuals and organisations who work in the realm of augmenting environmental sustainability. The awardees were felicitated by Dr Abraham Mathai, the founder chairman of the foundation.

Divya Hegde Wins UN Women's Award for Leadership Commitment 2021

  • Divya Hegde, an Indian Climate Action Entrepreneur from Udupi, Karnataka, won UN Women's Award for Leadership Commitment at the 2021 Regional Asia-Pacific Women's Empowerment Principles Awards Ceremony. She has been recognized for her sustained efforts in advancing gender equality through climate action efforts with her organization, Baeru Environmental Services.

SAIL Honoured Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 2021

  • Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), under the Ministry of Steel, was awarded the prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 2021 for successive three years. The Award is given to organizations for significant achievements in Environment Management by Environment Foundation (WEF) since 1998.
  • The company's environmental protections measures are focused on adopting various environmental measures including, upgrading of pollution control facilities, water conservation efforts with the aim to achieve Zero Liquid Discharge, efficient handling of different solid wastes (viz. process waste, hazardous waste, canteen/township waste), carbon sequestration through afforestation, eco-restoration of the mined-out area and etc.
