Former Rajasthan Minister Zakiya Inam Passes Away

Former Minister of Rajasthan and three times MLA from Tonk constituency, Zakia Inam passed away due to coronavirus infection.
Congress leader Zakiya Inam had handled portfolios like health, women and child welfare in Rajasthan government.
In the year 1985, Zakiya contested for the first time as a Congress candidate. However, she was not given ticket in the year 1993. She contested election as a Congress candidate in the year 1985, 1990, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013. Zakia became MLA in 1998, 2008.
Notably, Zakia was the only woman candidate who became three-time MLA in Rajasthan.

Veteran Actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar Passes Away

Renowned Marathi actress Ashalata Wabgaonkar died aged 79. She was admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition last weekend following her COVID-19 diagnosis.
Popularly known as Ashalata, the Goa-born actress, had reportedly contracted the infection during the shootings of a teleserial.
Ashalata Wabgaonkar acted in several Marathi films and plays. In Bollywood, she starred in films such as 'Apne Paraye', 'Woh Saat Din', 'Namak Halaal', 'Zanjeer' and others.

Ang Rita Sherpa, First to Climb Mount Everest Ten Times Passes Away

Ang Rita Sherpa, the first man to climb Mount Everest 10 times passed away of a lengthy illness. Fellow sherpas called a major loss to Nepal and the climbing community.
All ascents to the 8,850-metre (29,035-foot) summit of the world's tallest mountain between 1983 and 1996 by Ang Rita, who went by his first name, like many Sherpas, were made without bottled oxygen.
Ang Rita was also known as the 'snow leopard' for his climbing skills.

Anil Dhasmana New Chief of NTRO

Former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Anil Dhasmana was appointed as National Technical Research Organisation, India's technical body that is responsible for geospatial intelligence and satellite imagery.
Dhasmana succeeded former Intelligence Bureau officer Satish Jha who demitted office.
Dhasmana, a 1981 batch Indian Police Service officer, is a Pakistan expert and was the lead planner of the Balakot air strikes in February 2019 after Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 40 CRPF soldiers in the Pulwama car bombing.
The top police officer returns to the center of action 14 months later at a time the NTRO is playing a crucial role, tracking movements of the China's People's Liberation Army near the many friction points along the Line of Actual Control that have seen heavy deployment of soldiers and support elements from both sides.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Second Woman on Supreme Court, Dies

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, whose 27-year tenure as the second female justice on the US Supreme Court culminated a legal career dedicated to advancing the rights of women, has died.
She was 87, and her death comes less than two months before the election gives President Donald Trump a chance to try to shift the already conservative court further to the right.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Dies at 91

Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner, who was in office for just 79 days and led his Liberal Party to a huge defeat in 1984, has died aged 91.
A lawyer by training, he served as justice and then finance minister from 1968-1975. He resigned after arguments with party leader Pierre Trudeau.
Turner resumed his legal work and nine years later won the party leadership.
He called an election and then presided over what observers say was one of the worst campaigns in Canadian history.
His gaffes combined with growing public fatigue with the Liberals, who had been in power for 20 of the previous 21 years, resulted in his party falling from 135 seats in the 282-member House of Commons to just 40.
The Conservatives, under the leadership of Brian Mulroney, swept to power with 211 seats.

President Accepts Harsimrat Kaur Badal's Resignation, Narendra Singh Tomar Assigned her Portfolio

President of India Ram Nath Kovind has accepted minister of food processing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal's resignation from the Union Cabinet and directed that Narendra Singh Tomar be assigned the additional charge of the ministry.
The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution.

Lok Sabha MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao Passes Away

Lok Sabha MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao died at the age of 65 in a hospital in Chennai. The minister was undergoing treatment after testing positive for Covid-19.
Balli Durga Prasad Rao, a former state minister and three-time MLA, is survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.

H D Deve Gowda Takes Oath as Rajya Sabha Member

Gowda, 87, was in June elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. This is the first time that the JD(S) leader has become a member of the Upper House since 1996.
When the House met for the day, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu called for oath-taking by newly elected members.
After taking oath in Kannada, Gowda greeted the chair with folded hands.

Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Forrest Gump Author Winston Groom Dies Aged 77

Writer Winston Groom, whose novel Forrest Gump was made into the hugely successful Oscar-winning 1994 film starring Tom Hanks, has died aged 77.
The book, about the childlike optimism of a slow-thinking but kind-hearted man, won six Oscars including best film and actor, plus three Golden Globes.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and also starring Sally Field and Robin Wright, it made $683m (£526m).
Groom's death was confirmed by Alabama governor Kay Ivey.
