Indian-origin Srikant Datar is Dean of Harvard Business School

Eminent Indian-origin academician Srikant Datar has been named as Dean of Harvard Business School, succeeding Nitin Nohria and becoming the second consecutive dean hailing from India to lead the prestigious 112-year-old institution.
Datar, an alumnus of University of Bombay and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, is the Arthur Lowes Dickinson Professor of Business Administration and the senior associate dean for University Affairs at Harvard Business School (HBS).
He will assume charge as the school's next dean on January 1, 2021.

Ashwani Kumar, Former CBI Director & Former Governor, Passes Away

Former governor and ex-CBI director Ashwani Kumar was found dead in his Shimla house with a note for his family that attributed his decision to "disease and disability".
Kumar was a 1973-batch Indian Police Service officer.
He was once headed the Himachal Pradesh police and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
In 2013, the Manmohan Singh government appointed him as the governor of Nagaland and Manipur governor. Kumar stepped down from the post after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power after the 2014 general elections.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan Passes Away

Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan passed away at the age of 74. He underwent a heart surgery at Delhi's Fortis hospital.
He founded the Lok Janshakti Party in 2004. He was one of the most noted Dalit leaders of India. He was born in Shaharbanni village in Khagaria, Bihar. He completed law degree and passed the Bihar Civil Service Examination. He was selected to Deputy Superintendent of Police. However, Paswan rejected the offer and joined politics.
Paswan went to jail when the late PM Indira Gandhi imposed emergency in 1975. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time as Janata Party member in the elections that followed emergency. He has been elected to Lok Sabha eight times.

Mario Molina Mexico's First Winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry Passes Away

Mexican scientist Mario Molina, who became his country's first winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work on the threat to the ozone layer from chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), passed away at the age of 77.
One of Mexico's most eminent scientists, Molina conducted some of his first experiments at a tender age in his childhood home before becoming a global authority on climate change.
Molina founded the Centro Mario Molina, an environmental research body.
In 1995, Molina, Frank Sherwood Rowland and Paul Crutzen were awarded the Nobel Prize for their work showing how CFCs used in spray cans were destroying the ozone layer.

Rajeshwar Rao New Deputy Governor of RBI

The Government of India appointed M. Rajeshwar Rao as the new Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India. The post fell vacant in March 2020 when the previous Deputy Governor N. R. Vishwanathan resigned citing health issues before his term completed. His term was to complete in September 2020.
The Deputy Governor is recommended by the Financial Sector Regulatory Appointment Search Committee. The committee comprises of RBI Governor, cabinet secretary and financial service secretary. The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet approved the appointment.
Recently, the Government of India appointed economists Jayant R. Varma, Shashank Bhide and Ashima Goyal as members of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC). The MPC fixes interest rates, repo rate, reverse repo rate.
The Deputy Governor manages internal debts, financial market operations, and international and secretarial departments at the central bank. The Deputy Governor plays a major part in the RBI Board.

M. A. Ganapathy to Head Bureau of Civil Aviation Security

Senior IPS officer M. A. Ganapathy has been appointed as the Director General of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). He is a 1986 batch IPS officer of Uttarakhand cadre.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ganapathy, IPS, to the post of Director General, BCAS, for a tenure up to his superannuation on February 29, 2024. The post of BCAS chief fell vacant after Rakesh Asthana was appointed as the Director General of Border Security Force in August.

Arvind Hali New MD & CEO of Motilal Oswal Home Finance

Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd (MOFSL) appointed Arvind Hali as the new Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of its housing finance company Motilal Oswal Home Finance Limited (MOHFL).
It has also appointed Amar Bahl as the Deputy Managing Director & COO of the company.
Hali was previously associated with Art Housing Finance as its MD & CEO and has over two decades of experience in the financial domain. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving broad-based strategy, strengthening operations and scaling up Motilal Oswal Home Finance's business.
Prior to Art Housing, Hali was associated with various financial organisations such as Intec Capital, AU Financiers limited, Capri global, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Reliance Capital, Standard Chartered Bank, and GE countrywide.
Bahl has over 21 years experience in the financial Services industry and has worked on both sides of the balance sheet - Assets and Liabilities. His last assignment was with ART Housing Finance as the President and COO.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav Passes Away

Mulayam Singh Yadav, former MLC of Samajwadi Party, passed away in his native village Kakor in Purwa. He was 92.
The veteran leader had been fighting illness for several days.
Yadav, who was elected sarpanch of his village at the age of 21 in the year 1949, was the block chief for 15 years and a member of the Legislative Council for 20 consecutive years. He was a three-time member of the Legislative Council and also the block chief of Auraiya's block, Bhagya Nagar twice.
