Bhupender Yadav Launches 'Save Wetlands Campaign' for Conservation

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav launched the 'Save Wetlands Campaign' in the presence of Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant.
This campaign is structured on a "whole of society" approach to wetlands conservation, enabling affirmative actions for wetlands conservation at all levels of society and involving all strata of society. The campaign, over the next year, will include sensitizing people to the value of wetlands, increasing the coverage of wetlands and building citizen partnerships for wetlands conservation.
Two publications were also released during the occasion, 'India's 75 Amrit Dharohar- India's Ramsar Sites Factbook' and 'Managing Climate Risks in Wetlands – A Practitioner's Guide.

Limiting Global Warming to 1.5 Degrees not Plausible

Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius is currently not plausible, according to a report released by Universität Hamburg's Cluster of Excellence "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society" (CLICCS).
Climate policy, protests, and the Ukraine crisis, the participating researchers systematically assessed to what extent social changes are already underway, while also analyzing certain physical processes frequently discussed as tipping points.
The researchers concluded that social change is essential to meeting the temperature goals set in Paris. But what has been achieved to date is insufficient.

Yaya Tso to Become Ladakh's First Biodiversity Heritage Site

Yaya Tso, known as birds' paradise for its beautiful lake located at an altitude of 4,820 metres, has been proposed as Ladakh's first biodiversity heritage site (BHS).
The Biodiversity Management Committee, the panchayat of Chumathang village, along with SECURE Himalaya Project resolved to declare Yaya Tso as Ladakh's first BHS under the Biological Diversity Act.
The resolution was signed after multiple rounds of consultations between the village stakeholders and SECURE Himalaya project to declare the high-altitude lake and its catchment as a biodiversity heritage site.

Hibbertopterus lamsdelli: New species of Giant Sea Scorpion

Aquatic arthropods are invertebrates living in water with segmented bodies. They are extinct. A new species of aquatic arthropod was found in New Mexico. The new species is called Hibbertopterus lamsdelli. The species lives in an estuary. It lived 300 million years ago. The species found is a sea scorpion. It is giant and is extremely rare. They feed on large prey.
They have anterior appendages. The scorpion uses these appendages to explore its food and the substrate of its habitat.
Fossils of sea scorpions are rare. They are abundantly found in European and American sedimentary rock deposits. However, they are hard to explore.

Delhi Govt. Launches Realtime Pollution Factors Gathering Mechanism

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a "super site" and a mobile van which will collect pollution data in realtime and tell its constituents.
Delhi became the first city in the country to get a realtime source segmentation of air pollution that will help in identifying factors responsible for increase in air pollution at any place in Delhi.
The super site facility is located at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya premises near ITO. The project was initiated by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, and TERI.
Based on the data, this super site will also assist in forecasting air pollution levels enabling the government to deploy its resources to combat pollution.
