Piyush Chawla Retires from Professional Cricket

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, a member of India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squads, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Chawla represented India in three Tests, 7 T20Is and 25 ODIS, picking up 43 wickets across the three formats. Chawla is also the joint third-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, having taken 192 scalps in 192 matches, and won one title with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014.
He played for IPL franchises Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians.

Magnus Carlsen Wins Norway Chess

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen won the Norway Chess 2025 title in his hometown of Stavanger. The five-time World Champion secured the crown after a dramatic final round where his closest challenger, reigning World Champion D. Gukesh, faltered at the last hurdle.
This victory marks Carlsen's sixth triumph at his home event and underscores his enduring dominance in the classical format.

Errani-Vavassori Bag Mixed Doubles Title

Third-seeded Italian pair Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori beat fourth-seeded Americans Taylor Townsend and Evan King 6-4, 6-2 to win the mixed doubles title at the French Open.
It was their second major title together after winning last year's (2024) U.S. Open.

Krunal Pandya First to Win 'Player of the Match' Award in Two IPL Finals

Krunal Pandya emerged as a true clutch player for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, leading them to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 18 years after RCB beat Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
With a terrific performance with the ball, Krunal was chosen the Player of the Match (PoTM) in the final and became only the first player in the history of the league to have won two PoTM in an IPL final.

Gary Stead Set to Step Down as New Zealand Coach in June

New Zealand men's head coach Gary Stead will step down from his position when his contract expires at the end of June.
The coach enjoyed a prolific seven years in the role, with the team claiming an ICC World Test Championship victory in 2021, topping the Test Rankings, and claiming a momentous 3-0 Test series sweep of India away from home last year.

ICC Unveils Dates, Venues for Women T20 World Cup 2026

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the venues and dates for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to be held in England.
Hosts England will kick off the extravagant cricket tournament on June 12, which will be held at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The famed Oval in London will host both the semi-finals on June 30 and July 2, respectively, while the final will be held at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on July 5.
The marquee tournament will last 24 days, and 33 matches will be played at seven different venues in England, including Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, The Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, Bristol County Ground in Bristol, and The Oval and Lord's in London.
The 10th edition of the Women's T20 World Cup is the biggest ever, with 12 teams competing for the prestigious trophy. Eight teams have already qualified for the tournament, including hosts England, Australia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, the West Indies, and the defending champions, New Zealand.

India finished second in the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 medals tally after the final day, in Gumi, South Korea.
It was the 26th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships
China ended on top with 26 medals (15 gold), followed by India and Japan.

Shreyas Iyer Creates History, Becomes First IPL Captain to Lead Three Different Teams to the IPL ...

Shreyas Iyer is leading Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, and he entered his name in the history books by becoming the first captain in the world to lead three different teams to the IPL final.
Iyer played a super knock for the Mohali-based franchise in the second qualifier of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He remained unbeaten on 87 runs from 41 balls.
Iyer made his captaincy debut in the IPL for Delhi Capitals during the 2018 edition and led them to the IPL final in the 2020 edition, where they finished as runner-up. He captained Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 and 2024 and won his maiden IPL title as captain with the Kolkata-based franchise last year (2024).
By leading PBKS to the IPL 2025 final, Iyer also became the fourth captain in the world after MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya to play back-to-back IPL finals and the first captain to play back-to-back finals with two different teams.

Aman Sehrawat Clinches Bronze at Ulaanbaatar Open 2025

Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat was back in action for the first time since the Paris Olympics 2024 as he appeared in the men's 57kg freestyle category at the Ulaanbaatar, Momgolia, Open 2025 wrestling Ranking Series, where he won a bronze medal.
Sehrawat, India's youngest individual Olympic medallist, started with a dominant 11-1 win over Kyrgyzstan's Almaz Smanbekov in his quarter-final. However, he was narrowly beaten by Pan American champion Roman Bravo-Young of Mexico in the semis.

Glenn Maxwell Announces ODI Retirement

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from ODI cricket, calling time on an illustrious 13-year career for the national side in the 50-over format.
Maxwell, who first played for Australia in international cricket in an ODI in 2012, was part of the World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023.

Piastri Wins in Spain, Verstappen Demoted

Formula One leader Oscar Piastri won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position in a McLaren one-two with Lando Norris while Max Verstappen was demoted from fifth to tenth for a late collision with George Russell's Mercedes.
Piastri beat teammate and title rival Norris by 2.471 seconds for his fifth win in nine races this season.
