World Pickleball Championships

Top players from the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) have set their sights on the upcoming World Pickleball Championships (WPC), which will take place in Mumbai from November 12-17 to give a boost to the popularity of pickleball in India.
Mumbai hosting the WPC underscores India's growing interest in the sport. Some of India's top players like Vanshik Kapadia, Tejas Mahajan, Vrushali Thakare, and Isha Lakhanai were optimistic that this high-profile event will further propel the sport's popularity within the country.

4th LG Cup Horse Polo-2024 Tournament Inaugurated in Ladakh

Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, inaugurated the much-awaited 4th LG Cup Horse Polo-2024 Tournament at the newly constructed Polo Stadium at Goshan, Drass, Ladakh. This event, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, marked a significant milestone for the region as it showcased not only the traditional sport of horse polo but also the growing emphasis on youth development and sports infrastructure in Ladakh.

Moin-ul-Haq Stadium Redevelopment: Bihar Govt. Signs 30-year Lease with BCA

The Bihar Government and the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), granting the association a 30-year lease on the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna.
The MoU officially transferred the stadium to the BCA and paved the way for the redevelopment of the 55-year-old stadium, which would be transformed into a state-of-the-art international standard sports complex.
It will be renovated with the financial support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Indian Boxer Mandeep Jangra Wins WBF's World Title

Indian boxer Mandeep Jangra won the World Boxing Federation's super featherweight world title. He achieved this victory by defeating British boxer Conor McIntosh in the Cayman Islands. This win marks an important milestone in Jangra's career.
The Haryana boxer, who made his professional boxing debut in 2021, hopes the title will inspire more Indian pugilists to turn professional.

India Makes Official Move to Host 2036 Olympics

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha said that India's commitment to hosting the 2036 Olympics "remains steadfast" after a letter of intent expressing the country's desire to host the 2036 Summer Olympics and Paralympics was submitted by the IOA to the International Olympic Committee's Future Host Commission.
This signifies the first major official step in implementing India's long-standing ambition to stage the marquee quadrennial showpiece.
With the Summer Games set to take place in Los Angeles, United States in 2028, and Brisbane, Australia in 2032, the decision for the host of the 2036 edition is yet to be decided by the IOC, and is likely to be finalised after the IOC elections slated for next year (2025).

He played in every IPL season since its inception in 2008.

Sumathi Dharmawardena is New ICC Anti-Corruption Unit Chair

The International Cricket Council (ICC) appointed Sri Lankan legal expert Sumathi Dharmawardena as the new independent chair for its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). Dharmawardena took over from Sir Ronnie Flanagan, who served in the role for 14 years, and joined with a strong background in sports corruption investigations and legal representation, including roles with Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Dharmawardena has a distinguished career as the Additional Solicitor General at Sri Lanka's Attorney General's Department, representing the government in various sports-related legal matters. His involvement with Interpol and UNODC has further strengthened his expertise in overseeing high-profile investigations and prosecutions under the Prevention of Offences relating to the Sports Act, making him well-equipped to tackle sports corruption.

Ravindra Jadeja Climbs to 5th Spot in India's Test Wicket List

Ravindra Jadeja achieved a significant milestone by becoming the fifth-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket. This feat was accomplished on the first day of the third Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai, where Jadeja surpassed Ishant Sharma's wicket tally.
Ishant had previously held this spot with 311 wickets from 188 innings.
Jadeja now stands among India's legendary bowlers, with only the following four players ahead of him: Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh.
Jadeja's position as the fifth-highest wicket-taker is notable given his role as an all-rounder, proving his value not just with the bat but also as a frontline bowler.
His ability to break partnerships and contain runs has been critical in India's success in Test matches, especially on home soil.

India's Malvika Bansod lost the women's singles final at the Hylo Open 2024 badminton tournament in Saarbrucken, Germany.
Seeded sixth at the BWF Super 300 tournament, Malvika Bansod lost to Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt, the seventh seed, by a 21-10, 21-15 scoreline.
Malvika Bansod had beaten another Danish woman, Julie Dawall Jakobsen, and became only the third Indian woman after Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu to reach the final of a BWF World Tour tournament abroad.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen Wins Brazilian Grand Prix

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took a major step toward securing his fourth straight F1 title by winning the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite starting 17^th, and increasing his lead over McLaren's Lando Norris with three more races remaining.
Verstappen overcame punishments before the race as well as the wet weather at Interlagos to earn his first victory since June, and his eighth Grand Prix win of the year. He also clocked the fastest lap of the race, which gives him an extra point.
