Duleep Trophy 2025l: Central Zone Secures Title

  • Central Zone defeated South Zone by six wickets on the final day of their Duleep Trophy summit clash at the BCCI CoE Ground (1) in Bengaluru.
  • Needing 65 runs to lay claim to the title, Central lost four wickets but managed to reach the target in the morning session.
  • This was Central's first Duleep Trophy triumph since the Piyush Chawla-led side took top honours in the 2014-15 edition.
  • The 2025–26 Duleep Trophy was the 62nd edition of the Duleep Trophy, a domestic first-class cricket competition played in India. It concluded on September 15, 2025.
  • The tournament returned to a zonal format, featuring six teams: Central Zone, East Zone, North Zone, North East Zone, South Zone, and West Zone. All squads were picked by national selectors.

Mohammed Siraj Named ICC Player of the Month of August

  • Mohammed Siraj won the ICC Men's Player of the Month accolade for August, 2025 for his persistent, match-winning spell against England in The Oval Test, which was the only match he was a part of, in the month.
  • An outstanding spell by Siraj, where he picked up nine wickets at an average of 21.11 across both innings, helped India to not just win the Test from a tricky situation but also made sure the well-fought series ended at 2-2.
  • The fast bowler was also named the Player of the Match in the final Test for his efforts, which included a five-wicket haul in second innings, bowling 46 overs in the Test.
  • The right-armer beat out opposition from New Zealand's Matt Henry and West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales for the monthly award.
  • Ireland's premier all-rounder Orla Prendergast was named as the ICC Women's Player of the Month for August 2025.
  • Prendergast edged out stern competition from Netherlands all-round counterpart Iris Zwilling and Pakistan wicket-keeper Muneeba Ali and claimed the honour.

FIDE Grand Swiss: Vaishali Makes History By Winning Title Again

  • Vaishali Rameshbabu won the FIDE Grand Swiss tournament in 2025 for the second time in two editions after drawing her final game against former women's world champion Tan Zhongyi on Monday.
  • Vaishali winning the title is historic because no player in the short history of the event has won the Grand Swiss twice.
  • Even more significantly, Vaishali's win helped her secure a Candidates spot, thus making her the third woman to qualify for the Candidates along with Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh.

  • India's Minakshi Hooda and Jaismine Lamboria clinched gold medals at the World Boxing Championships 2025 held at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, England.
  • Meenakshi Hooda defeated Nazym Kyzaibay in the 48 kg category today, and Jaismine Lamboria outclassed Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland in the 57kg final clash. 
  • With their victories, Jaismine and Minakshi joined an illustrious list of Indian world champions featuring six-time winner Mary Kom, two-time champion Nikhat Zareen, Sarita Devi, Jenny RL, Lekha KC, Nitu Ghanghas, Lovlina Borgohain and Saweety Boora.
  • In the championship held at Liverpool in England, India ended with four medals, the best-ever in an overseas edition.

Amit Shah Inaugurates India's Largest Sports Complex in Ahmedabad's Naranpura

  • In 2025, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, constructed at a cost of about Rs. 825 crore, at Naranpura, Ahmedabad.
  • On this occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, along with many other dignitaries were present.
  • Amit Shah said that the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex is the largest in India and among the most modern sports complexes in the world.
  • The complex features a world-class aquatic complex and state-of-the-art facilities for indoor and outdoor sports, along with training and residential amenities for athletes.

  • The ICC announced that the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup will feature an all-female group of umpires and match officials for the first time in the history of the tournament.
  • The group of 14 umpires includes the trio of Claire Polosak, Jacqueline Williams and Sue Redfern that will be appearing at their third Women's World Cup, while Lauren Agenbag and Kim Cotton will be at their second World Cup after they were the officiating umpires when Australia won their unprecedented seventh title in New Zealand in 2022.
  • The match referee panel of four includes Trudy Anderson, Shandre Fritz, G. S. Lakshmi, and Michell Pereira, who all bring varying levels of experience in the role to the 13th edition of the Women's World Cup that will be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30.
