Partha Satpathy Appointed India's New Envoy to Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Partha Satpathy, an Ambassador of India to the Republic of Hungary, was appointed India's next Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • He is expected to take up his assignment shortly.
  • In November 2021, Partha Satpathy was appointed as the Indian Ambassador to Hungary.

Centre Approves India's 1st Cable-cum-suspension Bridge across Krishna River

  • The central government approved construction of an iconic cable stayed-cum-suspension bridge across Krishna River connecting Telangana and Andhra Pradesh while passing through the picturesque Nallamala forest range. The information was shared by Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways Nitin Gadkari.
  • Describing the bridge as "#PragatiKaHighway", Gadkari said that the iconic bridge would have several unique features like the longest glass pedestrian walkway across a river, gopuram like pylons, signature lighting and a large navigational span.
  • Once completed, the bridge would be second of its kind in the world and first in India.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2022

  • The Election Commission of India announced the dates for upcoming assembly election in Himachal Pradesh as 12 November.
  • According to the Election Commission, the counting of votes would be held on December 8. More than 43,000 fist time voters will participate in the state Assembly polls.
  • Elaborating the schedule of the Assembly polls, the ECI said that date of issue of gazette notification for single phase election for 68 Assembly seats will be released on 17 October.
  • While the last date of making nominations has been set as 25th October, the scrutiny of nominations will take place on 27 October, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been set as 29 October.

PM Chairs Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Society Meeting

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Society.
  • Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Jitendra Singh were present at the meeting.
  • The CSIR is a Society under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology and the Prime Minister is the Society's President.
  • The CSIR Society comprises eminent scientists, industrialists, and senior officials of scientific ministries. The Society meets annually to review CSIR activities and deliberate on its future programmes.
  • According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, CSIR's research efforts are now mainly focused on green energy technologies, STI (science, technology and innovation) interventions to generate employment and raise income levels in rural India.

  • The Union Ministry of Law and Justice organised an All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries to provide a platform for discussion and to help policymakers upgrade the overall legal system.
  • The conference was held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat.
  • The keynote address was delivered by Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju.
  • As per the Ministry of Law and Justice, this initiative would provide a forum for discussion on a variety of topics relating to India's legal system so that policymakers may develop a road map for the country's future. The conference would also provide a platform for exchange of ideas and an opportunity to various States and Union Territories to exchange their best practices.

Bengaluru Fourth most Expensive Real Estate Market in India: Knight Frank

  • The constant demand to move to India's Silicon Valley has made Bengaluru the fourth most expensive real estate market, with a 2 per cent annual rise in its position at 28 per cent, a Knight Frank consultancy firm report showed.
  • On the city-wise data, Mumbai remains the most expensive residential market in the country. Mumbai is the only city whose affordability index is improving at the rate of 4 per cent — from 53 per cent in 2021 to 57 per cent in the third quarter of this year (2022).

MEA's Adarsh Swaika Appointed India's Next Ambassador to Kuwait

  • Adarsh Swaika, a joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, was appointed India's next Ambassador to Kuwait.
  • Avtar Singh, a Director in the Ministry of External Affairs, was appointed as India's next Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea.
  • Swaika, also served as director in the UN division of India's Ministry of External Affairs. Swaika holds a PhD in chemistry and speaks Hindi, Bengali and Russian.
  • He has also served in Indian missions in Beijing, Sofia and Moscow in his career.

Jyotiraditya Scindia Inaugurates 4th Heli-India Summit 2022

  • Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the 4th Heli-India Summit 2022, themed 'Helicopters for last Mile Connectivity' at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar.
  • Scindia said that a civil enclave will be built in Jammu at a cost of Rs. 861 crore and Srinagar's existing terminal will be expanded three times from 20,000 square meters to 60,000 square meters at a cost of Rs. 1500 crore.
  • Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha was present at the summit.

PM Modi Inaugurates Projects Worth Rs. 420 Crore to Improve Rural Roads in Himachal Pradesh

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III in Himachal Pradesh for upgrading 3,125 km of rural roads.
  • More than Rs. 420 crore was sanctioned by the Central Government under this phase of the PMGSY-III for upgrading 440 km of rural roads in 15 border and far-flung blocks of the state.
  • The Prime Minister also laid foundation stones of two hydropower projects – the 48 MW Chanju-III hydro-electric project and the 30 MW Deothal Chanju hydro-electric project.
  • The two hydropower projects would generate over 270 million units of electricity annually and Himachal Pradesh is expected to earn an annual revenue of around Rs. 110 crore from these.
  • He also laid the foundation stone of a Bulk Drug Pharma Park and inaugurated the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Una.

Rajnath Singh Launches 'Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot' Website

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the 'Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot' (MBKS) website for the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF) during a function at the National War Memorial Complex in New Delhi.
  • The AFBCWF is a Tri-service fund utilised to grant immediate financial assistance of ex-gratia to the next of kin and dependents of Battle Casualties.
  • Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan is the 'Goodwill Ambassador'.
  • The Chief of Defence Staff, all three Service Chiefs, Param Vir Chakra (PVC) awardees and other prominent officials of the MoD, corporate heads, chairman & managing directors of banks, personnel from the sports field and celebrities also attended the function.

Nitin Gadkari Launches Toyota Pilot Project on Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid EV

  • Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road, Transport & Highways, unveiled Toyota Corolla Altis Flex-fuel car, which has been touted as first of its kind pilot project on Flexi-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India. This project intends to examine whether ethanol-powered flex fuel vehicles can be viable in Indian conditions.
  • Further, as a part of this project, collected data will be shared with the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, for conducting a deeper study about the well-to-wheel carbon emissions of FFV / FFV-SHEV in the Indian context. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
  • The launch event was also graced by Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Hon'ble Shri. Bhupinder Yadav, Union Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change and Hon'ble Shri. Rameswar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas.
