Karman Clinches Her Second W60 ITF Title

  • India's Karman Kaur Thandi clinched her second W60 ITF title of her career after winning at the Evansville Open in USA.
  • Karman overcame a strong challenge from Yuliia Starodubtseva of Ukraine before winning 7-5 4-6 6-1 to secure her second singles crown at an ITF women's world tour $60,000 tournament on Sunday. With this win, Karman becomes the only Indian woman after Sania Mirza to win a pro title in the USA.
  • Karman had won her maiden W60 ITF title in Saguenay in 2022. Overall, this was her fourth career title.

Junior Shooting Worlds: Kamaljeet Bags Two Gold

  • Kamaljeet helped India pick up two more gold medals on the final day of ISSF Junior World Championship in Changwon, South Korea, as he won both the men's 50m pistol individual and team.
  • India thus, finished second behind China with 17 medals, six gold, six silver and five bronze. China won 28 medals.

Sumit Nagal Wins Tampere Open

  • Sumit Nagal beat Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic in straight sets to clinch the Tampere Open title in Tampere, Finland.
  • Nagal beat Svrcina 6-4 7-5 and emerged victorious.
  • It was the second Challenger title of the season after the one in Rome, and the fourth Challenger title of his career for Sumit.
  • The champion collected 75 ATP points and $9,880. The points are expected to catapult Sumit back into the top-200 rankings and help him get into the US Open qualifying event. Sumit had enjoyed a career best rank of 122 in 2020.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty win Korea Open

  • India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty clinched the men's doubles title at the Korea Open with a gritty three-game win over top ranked Fajar Alfian and Muhamad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia in the final. Playing their fourth final of the year, the world No. 3 Indians rallied their way to a 17-21 21-13 21-14 win over the two-time world championships bronze medallists Alfian and Ardianto in a thrilling summit clash of the Super 500 badminton tournament.

Tamil Nadu Unveils 'Bomman', the Mascot for Asian Champions Trophy

  • Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin launched the trophy and the 'Bomman' mascot for the prestigious Asian Champions Trophy 2023 hockey tournament to be held in Chennai from August 3 to 12.
  • On the occasion, the minister also launched the ticket sales by receiving the first ticket from Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Egmore.
  • Six teams from the continent – India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan and Korea – will compete for the coveted trophy.

Virat Kohli Equals Sir Don Bradman's Record of most Test Centuries

  • Virat Kohli equalled Sir Don Bradman's elite record with his century in 2nd test against West Indies in Port of Spain.
  • Indian star batsman Virat Kohli smashed magnificent 121 runs. With this ton, Virat Kohli has reached a milestone of 29 Test centuries in his highly anticipated 500th international game. He equalled legendary Sir Don Bradman in the list of most test centuries. Bradman had scored 29 centuries in 52 tests while Kohli achieved this feat in his 111th Test match. It was Virat's 76th international ton including 46 centuries in ODI and one in T20 format.

Sri Lankan Batter Lahiru Thirimanne Retires from International Cricket

  • After a 12-year career, Sri Lankan batter Lahiru Thirimanne announced his retirement from international cricket.
  • Thirimanne featured in 44 Tests, 127 One-Day Internationals and 26 T20 Internationals, having made his debut in 2010.
  • He played for Sri Lanka in three ICC T20 World Cups, including the 2014 edition where the side emerged victorious. Besides, he also featured in a couple of ODI World Cups. He also had the honour of leading the team in five ODIs.

Shah Rukh Khan is Brand Ambassador of ICC World Cup 2023

  • Shah Rukh Khan was appointed as the brand ambassador of ICC World Cup 2023.
  • India will host the ODI World Cup in 2023 between October 5 and November 19 with ten teams taking part in the prestigious competition. India will start their campaign against Australia on October 8 and the Rohit Sharma led side will take on Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.

NBA Announces 10th Consecutive Junior's Program in India

  • The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced the 10th consecutive year of the RF Jr. NBA program and started on July 22, which features free, nationwide basketball development clinics and tournaments for youth, coaches, and teachers. The NBA has been one of the most popular leagues in the world and has attracted a big market in the Indian sub-continent. The Jr. NBA program is a comprehensive youth basketball development initiative that teaches the values and fundamentals of basketball to positively impact the lives of Indian youth.
  • Jr. NBA National Championship Tournament – For the first time, the NBA and RF will conduct 3-on-3 tournaments for U-12 and U-14 youth in 14 cities across India - Chennai, Kottayam, Mumbai, Kochi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Delhi, Aizawl, and Jamshedpur - culminating with the RF Jr. NBA National Championship in Delhi in September that will crown the boys and girls U-12 and U-14 RF Jr. NBA national champions.

Praggnanandhaa Wins Super GM Chess Tourney in Hungary

  • Young Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa emerged champion in the V Geza Hetenyi Memorial Super GM chess tournament 2023, in Hungary.
  • Praggnanandhaa scored 6.5 points to finish clear first in the 10-player event. After nine rounds of play, he ended up a point ahead of M. Amin Tabatabaei (Iran) and Russia's Sanan Sjugirov.
  • Praggnanandhaa posted five wins, drew three games and suffered only one defeat in the tournament, at the hands of Amin Tabatabaei in the fifth round.

Indian Team Wins Bronze Medal at Asian Surfing Championship 2023

  • The Indian surf team, which participated for the first time, in the Asian championship bagged the bronze medal. The icing on the cake was two Tamil Nadu youths breaking into the top 10 Asian rankings. The Asian Surfing Championship was held at Thulusdhoo Island in Maldives, which saw participation from 18 countries. The Surfing Federation of India had sent four senior surfers in the men's category and two surfers in the under-18 category. Five out of the six surfers were from Tamil Nadu.
