Neeraj Chopra Wins Men's Gold in Javelin Throw

India's Neeraj Chopra defended his Asian Games javelin throw title in Hangzhou with a best effort of 88.88 metres.
Chopra's compatriot Kishore Kumar Jena gave him a run for the gold medal but ended just short at 87.54 metres and claimed the silver medal.
Japan's Roderick Genki Dean took the bronze with an 82.68 m mark.

Google Doodle Celebrates Opening of Cricket World Cup 2023

Google Doodle celebrated the opening day of the International Cricket Council Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Doodle featured two animated ducks running between the wickets in a stadium, with spectators in the background. This is the 13th edition since its inception in 1975.
Teams from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are participating this year (2023).

Dipika Pallikal, Harinder Pal Sandhu Clinch Gold in Squash Mixed Doubles

Dipika Pallikal, Harinder Pal Sandhu won the gold medal in mixed doubles squash event defeating Malaysian pair by 2-0 in the final. Dipika and Harinder eked out a 11-10 11-10 win over Malaysian duo of Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal in a tense 35 minute final to fetch India's second gold medal in squash in Hangzhou.

FIFA World Cup 2030 to be Hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, Three Games in S. America

Morocco, Spain and Portugal were named hosts of the 2030 football World Cup, while Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will host the opening matches to mark the tournament's centenary, world football body FIFA announced.
This decision by FIFA marks the first time the World Cup will be staged across three continents and six countries.
The FIFA Council unanimously agreed that the sole candidacy will be the combined bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, which will host the event in 2030 and qualify automatically from the existing slot allocation.
The inaugural World Cup in 1930 was held in Uruguay and won by the hosts after they defeated Argentina in the final in Montevideo.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) made an exciting announcement, designating the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as the 'Global Ambassador' for the highly anticipated Cricket World Cup 2023, which kicked off in the vibrant city of Ahmedabad, India.
Sachin Tendulkar, who etched his name into the annals of cricket history, holds the record for participating in six 50-over World Cups.
In addition to Sachin Tendulkar, the ICC assembled an impressive group of cricketing legends to serve as ambassadors for the World Cup 2023. This eclectic mix includes West Indies' icon Vivian Richards, South Africa's cricketing maestro AB de Villiers, England's World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan, Australia's formidable Aaron Finch, Sri Lanka's spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, New Zealand's stalwart Ross Taylor, India's charismatic Suresh Raina, former captain Mithali Raj, and Pakistan's versatile all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.

Asian Games 2023, Annu Rani Wins Gold in Women's Javelin Throw

India's Annu Rani bagged gold in women's javelin throw at Asian Games. Annu touched 62.92 m, which was her season's best throw and topped the chart.
She became the first Indian woman to win a javelin gold in Asian Games history.
Sri Lanka's Nadeesha Dilhan Lekamge Hatarabage, with 61.57 metres throw, and China's Huihui Lyu, with 61.29 metres throw, won silver and bronze, respectively.

Asian Games 2023, Parul Chaudhary Wins 5000 m Gold

Parul Chaudhary became the third Indian track and field athlete to win gold at the 2023 Asian Games, winning the women's 5000 m. Parul registered a time of 15:14.75.
Parul's gold is India's third from track and field at the 2023 Asian Games, adding to the medals won by shotputter Tajinderpal Singh Toor and men's 3000 m steeplechase winner Avinash Sable.
Hironaka was second registering a time of 15:15.34 while Kazakhstan's Caroline Kipkirui won bronze with a time of 15:23.12 which is her season's best. Ankita, the other Indian in the fray, finished fifth with a time of 15:33.03, which is her personal best.

PM Inaugurates the Country's First High-tech Sports Training Centre

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the country's first high-tech sports training centre for Divyangjan, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee 'the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Training Centre for Disability Sports', in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He expressed admiration for persons with disabilities and highlighted that previous government did not pay attention to them and this Government is committed for Divyangjan. The Prime Minister also launched several other initiatives during the event.
This initiative aims to provide equal opportunities in sports, enhance talent, and encourage participation in various sports disciplines. Divyangjan from all over the country can practice and train in the Atal Bihari Training Centre for Divyang Sports.

Asian Games 2023: Tajinderpal Singh Toor Wins Shot Put Gold

At the Hangzhou Asian Games, Tajinderpal Singh Toor of India secured a gold medal in men's shot put, making him the fourth Indian shot putter in history to successfully retain his Asian Games gold.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor became the fourth Indian shot putter to successfully defend his Asian Games gold, following the achievements of Parduman Singh Brar, Joginder Singh, and Bahadur Singh Chouhan, who had previously accomplished this feat.
Toor saved his best for last, unleashing a monumental 20.36-meter throw in his sixth and final attempt, which won him the gold.

Abhay Singh Wins 2-1 against Pakistan's Noor Zaman in Squash

As top seed, Abhay Singh won the war of attrition against Noor Zaman for the highest prize of his career. India reclaimed the Asian Games squash gold medal with a 2-1 victory against Pakistan.
Before the event began, the Indian men's team was projected to return to the top of the podium after an eight-year absence, with Malaysia and Pakistan, the sport's former powerhouses, as its major competitors.
On their route to victory, the Saurav Ghosal-led team defeated both opponents.

Asian Games 2023: Avinash Sable Wins Gold in Men's 3000 m Steeplechase

The Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, witnessed a historic moment as Avinash Sable, the Indian steeplechase sensation, secured a gold medal in the 3000 m steeplechase event. This remarkable achievement not only made Avinash Sable the first Indian man to clinch gold in this event but also marked the breaking of the previous Asian Games record.
He clocked an impressive time of 8 minutes and 19.50 seconds, surpassing the record set by Iran's Hossein Keyhani in the Asian Games 2018, which stood at 8 minutes and 22.79 seconds.

Indian-origin Shanti Pereira Wins Singapore's First Gold in Asian Games Athletics in 49 Years

Singapore celebrated its first athletics gold win in 49 years at the Asian Games with its Indian-origin sprinter Shanti Pereira winning the women's 200 m final in Hangzhou, China.
Pereira clocked 23.03 seconds to finish the race at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. This is the first athletics gold medal for the city-state since 1974, when sprinter Chee Swee Lee had won the women's 400 m race.
China's Li Yuting took the silver with 23.28 seconds and Bahrain's Edidiong Ofonime Odiong came third with 23.48 seconds.

Nikhat Zareen Secures Olympic Quota, Assured of Medal at Asian Games

Two-time world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen secured a Paris Olympics berth and assured herself of a medal as she cantered to the 50 kg semi-finals of the Asian Games.
Fighting in her third bout of the tournament, Nikhat needed less than three minutes to notch a facile RSC (referee stops contest) win over Nassar Hanan of Jordan in the quarter-final.
The reigning Commonwealth Games champion set the tone of the bout early on with a sharp jab. Nikhat continued to dominate with a flurry of accurate combination punches.
Such was her domination that the referee was forced to give the Jordanian pugilist three standing counts before calling off the contest.

Shuttlers End Team Medal Drought

India thrashed lowly Nepal 3-0 in the quarter-finals to secure a historic medal after 37 years in the men's team badminton event at the Asian Games.
Lakshya Sen defeated Prince Dahal 21-5 21-8 before Kidambi Srikanth beat Sunil Joshi 21-4 21-13. Mithun Manjunath then beat Bishnu Katuwal 21-2 21-17 to clinch the tie. The men, who are assured of at least a bronze medal, will take on three-time champions South Korea in the semi-finals.

Kiran Baliyan Ends India's 72-year Wait for a Women's Shot Put Medal

Kiran Baliyan became the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games medal in shot put event in 72 years as she picked up a bronze on the opening day of competitions at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Baliyan threw to a distance of 17.36 m in her third attempt to finish third behind the Chinese duo of reigning Olympic champion Lijiao Gong and Jiayuan Song. They were also the only three athletes to cross the 17 m mark, Gong taking gold with a massive 19.58 m throw.

IPL 2024: Bobat is Royal Challengers Bangalore's New Director of Cricket

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) announced Mo Bobat as the new director of cricket of the franchise. Bobat would replaced New Zealand's Mike Hesson, who was RCB's helm of affairs since 2019.
Bobat and RCB head coach Andy Flower have previously worked together with England, and now, coming together again, they will look to recreate glorious days at RCB. However, it remains to be seen whether these changes will end the trophy drought of 16 years for the most-followed IPL franchise RCB.
