India's First Internet Telephony Service

BSNL unveiled the country's first internet telephony service that will allow users to dial any telephone number in India through its mobile app, starting from July 25. The company launched the app 'Wings' that will allow customers to make unlimited calls by paying annual fee of Rs.1,099 and by using internet service or Wi-Fi of any telecom operator, to any phone number.

ISRO on Hunt for First Set of Astronauts

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is roping in Indian Air Force pilots to identify the first set of astronauts for a human space flight. IAF pilot Rakesh Sharma is the only Indian to have travelled in space. He flew aboard the Soviet rocket Soyuz T-11 in 1984. Kalpana Chawla, one of the seven crew members who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003, was an American astronaut of Indian origin.

Flight Test for Crew Escape System

The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully carried out a flight test for a newly-designed Crew Escape System, meant for saving lives of astronauts in an exigency.

As per the space agency, it is the first in a series of tests to ascertain the trustworthiness and efficiency of the Crew Escape System.

Cosmic Rays from Massive Star System

Eta Carinae, the most luminous and massive stellar system within 10,000 light-years, is accelerating particles to high energies, some of which may reach the earth as cosmic rays.

Eta Carinae, located about 7,500 light-years away in the southern constellation of Carina, is famous for a 19th century outburst that briefly made it the second-brightest star in the sky.

Newborn Planet Pictured for First Time

Researchers have long been on the hunt for a baby planet, and this is the first confirmed discovery of its kind.

Young dwarf star PDS 70 is less than 10 million years old, and its planetary companion is thought to be between five and six million years old.

Known as PDS 70b, it appears to be several times the size of Jupiter and probably has a cloudy atmosphere.
